I am (as a Persian) NOT proud of what Xerxes did to the Greeks, although he was continuing his father's (Darius I) mission to stop the Greeks from further attacking the Persian borders and burning the temples.

No one knows this, but the war between Persians and Greeks was started by the GREEKS. Xerxses burned Athens in responce to the burning of the Persian temples by the Greeks. What he did was wrong and un-Persian, but he realised that and rebuilt Athens the next day.
