alan kuwicki would have won 2 titles and davey allison would have one 3. out of ten years those two plus gordon would have won 7 titles. life is unfair and cruel sometimes, but these drivers should have been the ones who saved us from the hell we watch every sunday now. Big E is probally roling in his grave at how shitty it has gotten. and little E would have never left his fathers team. thersa would be another earnhardt ex and would be nothing. oooo wait she already is nothing.
I bet with any money, had Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin never been killed, I bet those two would be going at it for the championship today. Heck, if Jeremey Mayfield never done drugs, he would be competing for titles.
@CBright7831 No COT, no required HANS usage, no safer barriers on all tracks, Jeff Gordon would still be competitive for championships with Earnhardt still running, and championships with DEI and Dale Jr.
Leeroy Yarbrough and Pete Hamilton I could see challenging Richard David Cale and the Allisons into the 1970s. Hamilton I think would have stayed Richard's teammate.
Tim Richmond might not have won a championship because even at his peak there was an eraticism to his racing - I remember Barry Dodson doubting Richmond could have adapted to radial tires.
Kulwicki barely succeeded as owner-driver; I don't see him succeeding after 1992 because of the sport's insane economics.
Jimmie Johnson would have had a much harder road to success if Adam Petty didn't die. I would also bet Clint Bowyer would be likely to still be racing on short tracks in Kansas and Missouri if Petty didn't die.
@Porygonseizureman I dont see Adam Petty driving for Hendricks. Maybe I'm missing some facts or projections in the matter. JJ was hand picked by Gordon. Still I miss your point
I remember watching Tim Richmond race. You could tell he was a very good driver probably one of the best ever in NASCAR. IMHO the best driver for the past 10 years has been Tony Stewart. Funny how Tony and Tim both started in Indy cars. Davey Allison was also very good and would have probably won a couple championships. I was a huge Alan Kulwicki Fan and allthough I was happy he won a championship I think He got very lucky that year. He was a good driver but not spectacular.
@rayar66 I believe Kulwickis talent was organization. He would probably own a powerhouse team right now, especially if he had kept Ray Evernham on the team. But he wasnt a great driver.
Dale earnhardt was one of the best ever how ever if tim, alan and davey wouldnt have died I believe the natrual selection at the time would have left him at three titles
@backlinelover I completly agree with you. I also don't think Jeff Gordon would have as many championships if Tim, Davey and Alan where still alive and racing. I think Tony Stewart would still have all of his championships and sadly think Jimmy Johnson would still have 4 in a row because Tim, Davey and Alan would be getting older and not as good as they used to be.
@bsebll552 Why? Just because he was a Petty?. Cant really agree with you because as much as I don't like Johnson I have to admit the he has been dominant in the playoffs for the last 4 years and looks like he will do it again this year. dang it.
With some good luck, Rusty Wallace could have easily been at least a 3 time champion.

Davey won 19 times in 191 races. Multiply by say.. 800 starts? Were talking top 5 of all time.

Imagine if A.J. Foyt ran NASCAR full-time...I'm surprised nobody has asked that question.

Here's another question: What would NASCAR be like today if Dale Earnhardt had survived the 2001 Daytona 500?

@Video24Maker It is not much about the HANS device. If he had just hit wall marginally from a different angle, he would be alive today.

im a huge gordon fan but frankly i dont see him taking 3 championships in the 90s if kulwicki and allison were alive when he won them

Adam Petty wouldnt likely had the equipment. Or maybe him being there would have pushed Petty racing to get very serious

davey would have dominated the 90s if he hadn't died i think

Response to my own post. Bowyer would have had problems obtaining sponsorship.

@Porygonseizureman Adam Petty was a great person, but he was no better than his father at racing stock cars.

@sneezabonk Indeed. Now HE needs to be included in this story.

I bet gordon doesn't win 1 or 2 of his championships if allison was around throughout the 90's!

I remember hearing about Alan's death on April 1 and thing what a bad joke.
then to also lose Davey that year, and nearly Ernie the next..

very few people have what it takes to be number one, its rare...I believe the stage only has room for a few players.
