Talk to a current flying pilot at the airlines today, and get the real story. Remember, flight schools mainly want your money. Who wants to start life with a $100,000 - $200,000 debt, all to get a flying job starting out at appr. $17,000/yr. (Recently a passenger told me his son has a $250,000 debt now from ERAU) The cost will be more when the new FAA requirements are presented.
Talk to the ones (airline pilots) doing the job, not the salespeople who need your money to keep them afloat.
if you are going for aerospace engineering, don't come here expecting to have fun and have the cliche college experience, there are no girls, there is not much to do in daytona, and you will barely ever have free time.
@kinshasaAPP i along with just about everyone else was expecting much more, for god sakes it's in Daytona beach,Florida only them most famous party destination in the world. are you saying i should have came to college expecting it to be like high school without parents?..but i am content because the education is outstanding.
@jithin15 You should have came to college with the mindset of an adult, the mindset that you are there because your work at ERAU will get you into a rewarding career, not because you could score chicks and booze it up.
@kinshasaAPP i did and i try my best to work hard, but you need a break from all the studying once in a while, and i'm assuming you are a girl, you couldn't possibly understand how it feels to be almost isolated from girls here. If i wasn't looking for a rewarding career i wouldn't be here working my ass off with Aerospace engineering and Army ROTC on top of that to pay for school. Just for the record i don't get drunk and there is more to life than scoring with chicks.do you go to riddle?
@jithin15 Understood. Do you have a car? Go on trips with friends and whatnot, that's always fun. I understand how school and ROTC can get tough. I am also busy, running the newspaper as a freshman as well as having two minors and de-icing aircraft as another job. I go to Riddle in AZ, same problem as far as women go but hey that's life I guess. Cheers, my friend.
@kinshasaAPP no i don't have a car at the moment and we try to go out, seems like you have it pretty tough as well. what major are you? i heard the AZ campus is much more modern than ours! once i can get off campus i guess i should be fine, but being stuck here is pretty demoralizing. hope your riddle experience goes well salud!
This is a great school, with a great program. I had a great time going here and learned a lot. The name Embry-Riddle will definitely help you in the aviation field. Now with that being said the market is saturated with unemployed pilots. As everyone knows with unemployment just under 10% and being in a bad U.S. recession the aviation industry has taken a hard hit.
OK, I'm 6 feet 6 inches tall, and weigh 250 pounds. My all out dream is to be an airline pilot. Would I be tall/big for the training aircraft? Would I be able to get accepted? Thanks
@WarBirdMan1 We have a large aircraft fleet consisting of: Diamond DA42, Cessna 172, Piper Arrow, Piper Seminole, and Decathlon. To learn more about the Embry-Riddle flight department visit us online at erau.edu. And while you are there check out our admissions page to find out more about how to get accepted.
@WarBirdMan1 Hey man, a friend of mine is a pilot student here at the Prescott campus and he has to be at least 6'9". He fits in the Cessnas, just with the seat pretty far back. You'll be fine! :-)
i hear this university costs ALOT and doesnt benefit you that well if you want to be a pilot. is this true? im interested in going here not just for a career in aviation but maybe in intelligence or something?
I will follow my dreams.I have a flight simulator at my house and i fly every day.Im hoping on getting my flight degree and all my liscenses to become a commercial pilot
I will follow my dreams.I have a flight simulator at my house and i fly every day.Im hoping on getting my flight degree and all my liscenses to becomea commercial pilot
@JordanBellow5 Follow your dreams...and remember the major airlines hire more alumni from Embry-Riddle than from any other collegiate aviation program. You are right on track! :)
@EmbryRiddleUniv funny how you say that when my instructor is an Embry Riddle Aeronautical Science Graduate. He has been here teaching for years is still waiting for that regional airline job....
@kinshasaAPP I know thats what it does, Embry Riddle Seems to try to pass that over new recruits heads. Just trying to give a fair warning. I have my private, About to have my instrument, a degree and my commercial with all my CFI ratings. No Debt. The Embry Riddle Name is not going to get you a job. Ask any major pilot.
@EmbryRiddleUniv wait.. so after you graduate from erau, what do you do? do you apply to the major airlines right away? do u even have enough hours at that point?
@rappinCheese Airlines wont even bat an eye at you till you have 1,000 hours and atleast 100 Multi Engine. Majors? You have ten years with the regionals until the majors give you call. 99% of the Aviation graduates end up being instructors there because it is their only way to build flight time. Trust me, they are not there because of they enjoy teaching, they are there because they want that airline job too. The only problem is they arent getting hired. Even as riddle Alumni..Save your money!
@RippedWookie More than 85% of students receive some form of achievement-based and/or need-based state, federal, or institutional assistance, including ROTC scholarships. Check out student blogs on our erau.edu website (in the student life section) to learn more about student life on campus.
@NDTeariki04 its not a "great school" its an overpriced average school. But yes, no matter where you go it depends on the person and how hard they want to work at it. If you want 120,000-180,000 in student loan debits after you are done then this is a great choice.
I'm also starting this fall 2010 at the campus in Atlanta for Technical Management in Information Systems!! Can't wait!! Anyone have any suggestions about the school?
Great school, great staff and great students. Enjoyed my time there and am going back for my Master degree. Good choice for those who are planning to attend. Good luck and wish you all the best.
@TJace50 ERAU is a very good school. Getting a job depends on you. Means, working and studying hard while in this great school will reward you some day.
Shoot for ERAU the possibility's are endless. I am being set up with NASA employees to discuss career options with them (specifically to become an Astronaut) Don't let anyone put your goals down just use it as a step up to excel yourself and pursue your ultimate goal!
STLPILOT9 Thank you, Follow your passion. Study hard, show good moral leadership and show the ability to always pursue. I hear people say don't go to Riddle every now and again and the funny thing is not one of them have actually step foot on the Campus.

@lightningxstryke No... If you have the money, and it's an extreme amount, and you make a fairly decent grade on the SAT and you can meet the minimum requirements, they will place you where you will do best and at your level... It's an extremely good school. I hope to go there. :D

@RyanWeisel Currently here in the AS109 course. This "riddlezation" course is going to cost me more than I paid for my private. Thinking of flying elsewhere.
I just took a tour of the campus today, and I currently plan on attending here once I graduate from high school after next year. Money won't be an issue, as I will have plenty of scholarships...
This school is rated the #1 school for Aerospace engineering, which is what I plan on obtaining my master's degree in. Depending on how much money I have my jr/sr year, I may or may not get my private flight license.
I went to that school for 8 years, I graduated with a Masters Degree in aviation and I currently do not have a job. This school is extremely expensive and it's not all that it's cracked up to be. My words of wisdom would be to save your money and go to another school. There are plenty of flight schools out there that offer flight training just as good, but at a lower cost.
i just received my acceptance letter from Embry, i really want to go there because its said to be one of these schools, but it just cost too much. if i get scholarship money then i will go. are u still in dept to the school? im so confused, i heard that if you graduate from Embry, than you should be able to get into any job. :( please advice me on wht i should do.
