  • I noticed the USB cable only has one host end connector, but other HD enclosures I've seen use two, in order to supply enough power to the drive. How can you guarantee that the required power for the hard drive won't exceed that available from a single USB port (especially considering that we're talking about a laptop here)?

  • When upgrading to a 5400 RPM drive a single USB connection should provide enough a power in most cases . If upgrading to a 7200 RPM drive additional power may be needed. In that case Apricorn sells an Xtreme Upgrade Kit which includes an AC Power Adapter. You can also purchase the power adapter separately from their site for $10.

  • I have a netbook with 160gb and 2 partitions. THere's 20gb of OS, apps, rescue partition, etc. Can I use this Software to clone it to a 60 gb SSD drive? How does it handle the partitions in the OS and not part of OS?

  • Yes, as long as total data transfer does not exceed the total capacity of the destination SSD you can use EZ Gig II to clone. Typically the partitions are adjusted proportionally to the drive size. When you go to a smaller drive, the free space should be adjusted proportionally. In the case of a recovery partition, there will be very little free space in this partition, so the size of the partition will change very little. The free space on the primary partition will be what is adjusted.
