  • This is why I bought a beat up BMW X Challenge for really cheap. Who cares? I got money in my pocket because the guy before me used it for what it was designed for. Perfect.

  • haha nice man, these bikes are meant to beat to shit. well done buddy

  • Do you have any clue what the shortest dual sport is?? im a VERY short female but i know you dont need ur feet on the groud when ur riding, just to tiptoe it when you stop lol

  • @RodrigoTostito Check out the Yamaha TW200.

  • Can you ride passengers on klr650?

  • @visry yeah you sure can.

  • YES! LOL the ultimate test! Roundhouse kick FTW!

  • Do you have to be a certien age to ride one?

  • @Mrcritic2525 16 years old you get a drivers license. Probably not the best age to start riding though. In that time of life when you think you're too cool to die.

  • outstanding i do the same thing to my 81 DR500 all the time its a tuff bike

  • This video reminds me of an old cowboy (long gone, known by many but not by most) that I use to know. Every new pick up truck he bought he would drive in through buck brush to get scratches all over and throw a bucket of water from the horse tank on the interior just so he did not have to worry about protecting his truck. Its a bike use it well

  • please could any one help me i want to know what the difference between xr650l and xr650r and witch one is better ???

  • @adibnagui The XR650L is the dual-sport road going version of the XR650R, though they are quite different in design these days.

The L model is an air cooled engine design from the 80's that is incredibly reliable but not quite as punchy as it could be. The R model runs a more modern liquid cooled engine and pumps out more power, but lacks any road going features like lights and turn signals. The R also lacks the power robbing emissions equipment, since it is an off road only bike.

  • @adibnagui Forgot to mention, as far as which one is better.

The XR650L is amazing for dual-sport use because of it's engine design, it's had over 30 years to be refined so the engine is incredibly reliable and the bike will never let you down if you take care of it. It's also not too bad on gas, even better with some modifications people have done to boost power and economy.

The XR650R is powerful, but even with a dual sport kit it isn't legal everywhere. So the L is a safer bet, and reliable.

  • @RTDragonCommando thxxxx u were so helpful to me

  • You make an exellent point. I have had my XR650L for 14 years now and I still drop it on every ride. I do not consider the Ducati and BMW bikes dual-sports, they are actually "adventure touring" bikes. Great video.

  • @southerndeth Yes they are adventure touring bikes, but it drives me crazy the way they are advertised as go anywhere do anything bikes.

  • @halfthrottle It drives me crazy also. I believe that calling Adventure Bikes "Dual-sports" is what killed the Honda Transalp here in America twenty years ago. By catagorizing the bike correctly they could of started a whole new market.

  • I can't count the number of times my KLR has hit the ground, It really a bitch when it's in a ditch and wheels are higher than the handle bars. I like dual sports but my hernia from picking it up tells me i would be happier with a lighter machine.

  • pick-up like girl

  • @tucano904 Type comment like dumb ass

  • bruto

  • What's next? Kick your wife??

    Kick your dog??

    What a MORON

Si lo que quieres es llamar la atencion, mejor metete el tubo de escape caliente por el culo y nos muestras como te crecen las ampollas. IMBECIL!!!

  • @HanssenHermann Part of my motorcycles job is to help me make funny/cool videos. One reason I bought a KLR is so I could treat it the way I do and not feel bad. One reason I can treat it the way I do is I bought it with my very own money. Your opinion has no impact on my motorcycles future.

  • @HanssenHermann

If they are ridden like the KLR I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

  • A stupid who kicks a bike don't deserve to be a biker.

    ASSHOLE!!!

  • @HanssenHermann Quick get my digital pitchfork! Let's have a comment flame war!

  • Dude you just kicked you bike over!!!!!

  • @MysteriousVlogger I know kung fu.

  • Hahaha! YES! This is how I feel about my motard!! Guys who ride fancy sportbikes just don't get it...

  • Hard cases are nice - keeps the ol' Hoss up that critical initial lifting distance - lifting a naked bike is harder! A set of bar guards is great too - not the plastic crap KHI uses. My KLR has been down more than a few times - only had to replace one lever.

  • Sorry, if you don't own a klr you just wouldn't get it!

  • KLR don't give a shit.

  • Would of been funny if a spark and a bit of gas on impact!

  • Well, considering that tipping a bike over is a strong possibility off road, its important that your bike can stand up to it. I have no idea why so many dual sports these days come with unnecessary cosmetics. Well, I suppose its a good way to rip off a new motorcycle buyer.

  • It's a KLR thing. They like to lay down for a nappie now and then after the piggy has been out hunting truffles all day.

  • What a schmuck!!!

  • Kick it while it's down! ;)

  • It's his bike, it's his video, and it's funny. Chill out people and just laugh.

  • Sorry man, I wouldn't treat ANY bike like that, that old mule took you around safely for thousands of kilometers and that's the reward? Saaaaad.

  • @ivanover Part of that old mule's job is to help me make interesting/funny videos.

  • @halfthrottle ok, I get it.

  • @ivanover It's a dual sport. If it's not hitting the ground pretty frequently, you bought the wrong kind of bike. Both of my BMWs have spent quite a bit of time taking naps in the mud and dirt. The first wasn't even a dual-sport. The R1150R is just a GS with less clearance.

But the TRUE test of a dual-sport is "how many times can I pick it back up before I want to puke. My R1200GS scores pretty low on that one.

  • don't know why but after seeing this, every time I see my scooter I want to try my kung-fu skills on it.

  • Nice. Please do a drop kick next time!

  • Unbelievable....

  • wellllll i would still be upset just for the fact its a motorcycle being kicked over but ehhh what ever floats your boat buddy

  • @halfthrottle someone else did, thats how i found it

  • some people will never understand the Beauty of the KLR!!!!

  • no matter what it is youd wanna take care of it... i hope u bent the bars.

  • @m0t0cr0ss17 No but the muffler rubs against the back tire now.

  • @halfthrottle lol. woww.. if it was me no matter how old or "crappy" the bike is i treat them right man...

  • lol play the video and press 5 over again

  • Bruce Lee must have been your Yoda, To true bro

  • Your Kung Fu is strong grasshopper

  • You are correct! My KLR been dropped by me and others so many times, I've lost count. Get those crash guards on it and drop away. While I've never intentionally dropped it, its fallen just about everywhere - parking lots, in my garage, that 18" deep puddle of water, that other 18" deep puddle of stagnant pond water, gravel roads, sandy roads, roads with both sand and gravel. You get the idea. It might be easier to mention that places it hasn't been dropped.

  • @dahveed284 You are the new king of dropped motorcycles my friend.

  • Why is that poor people always hate on people who have money? Is is cause you poor folk are lazy?

  • Thumbs up if you are that rich to kick your bike.

  • @Bylga Thumbs up if you are poor and had to buy a bike that you didn't care about getting scratched up.

  • as seen on gtamotorcycle! WIN!

  • @osamarama Did you embed it there?

  • haha, I got one of them kickable bikes! (And I'm sure lots of other people wanna come and kick my Harley Davidson over too!)

  • @MadStu Everybody loves to kick Harley Davidson's.

  • @MadStu I have one of those to but the better 500 version which is British. :D

  • omg i watched both epic. lol i had my klr fall on me, trying to kick start. my starter went bad and i was calling it everything but a child of god lol. so i know that feeling lol allllll tooo wellllllll lol. cheers bro

  • Haha, hilarious.

By the way, did you sell your GS for moving to Panama?

  • @dejongwiebe Nope the GS is in storage in the states, waiting for more adventures.

  • NO!!!!!!!!! DON'T KICK IT!!

  • I tried to kick my WR over but she dodged it, grabbed me by the ankle and I drew back a stump.

this has been an accidental comment-

  • @AccidentalBroadcast WR is on my list. Great fun to be had with a bike like that. I'll remember to never kick it.

  • So would your old GS have passed this test? mmm lol?

  • @Pooshooter5k I've abused my GS a lot. Very tough bike, but cost of ownership is way to high.

  • he needs a that was easy button

  • I don't think I'll be doing that to my bike. Then again....I don't own a KLR. Funny video! At first I read "Can you kick it over...." in the description and I was thinking kick starting. (didn't click show more) Then you actually kicked it over!! LOL

  • @p0kerp1aya My Kung Fu is strong.

  • Are you and Glen Heggstad close?

  • @blackavar Had to look that up, for shame. I've heard of the striking viking. Maybe one day he and I will go for a ride together.

  • Well done! When I finished getting my KLR ready for Billmaa's and my trip to Prudhoe later this month, I did the exact same thing to make sure nothing would break. Oh, I had also *just* bolted on new Happy Trail bags too. If they can't take a beating they don't deserve to go on the KLR.

  • @BusasaurusRex happy trails are great just don't forget the latch. One of my lids is long gone...

  • that is where you have me beat my friend... I wont even let my family walk through the garage for fear of them scratching my Tiger... that is why I would love an older KLR is to have some real fun on....

  • @kary1982v6 Those shiny new Tigers look awesome! But I don't think I would ever take it off road. KLR would save you a bunch of money too.

  • KLR upside is no one will steal it..something to think about in Panama

  • @j25ack Not many KLR's in Panama. Here this is actually a major head turning bike. 650cc's is huge here.

  • My god, he's on to something.

  • When I did your test in the dealer's showroom they weren't very understanding, apparently it's recommended you purchase the motorcycle first lol

I want a klr for this very reason but I'm 5'7" and am a little concerned about the seat height.

  • @cybrnathan I'm 5' 11" and it doesn't seem bad to me. If you know how to ride it won't be a big deal, if this will be your first bike it's probably a good idea to get something shorter to learn on.

  • LOL!!

  • Yep, I would cry if I did that to my KTM SMT....

  • Yeah it looks like a Kawasaki "killer". But you look like a killer of kawasakis. :)

    Funny video!

  • @AlexDIIM That has a nice ring to it.

  • Hey, thats no way to treat an old friend.

  • @MAG315 She does all her own stunts in my films and is proud of it.

  • haha...great video!

  • ROFL! Awesome... I feel the urge to make a video response

  • @EverydayRiding Yes if anyone is wondering if their bike passes this test be sure and post a video response to this and I will let you know if I feel like killing myself.

  • I see, you do have issues walking it back. Maybe it's an effect of how tall the bike is.

That being said, this is why I'm really considering the Ural solo st for my next bike. I'm getting tired of turning around at every pavement ending.

  • @phlemdog I would love to play with a Ural.

  • Haha amazing. This video shows why I picked up a used kawasaki as my first bike instead of a bmw.

  • @Terahbith A wise choice.

  • Maybe you also have a few tips about how to convince the dealer/previous owner to let you do the test before you buy it. :))

  • @caesareor Kick and run.

  • like i said in previous vids of yours, nothing beats the KLR for rugged reliability in a dual sport!! Riding KLR's in the Marine Corps were some of the best memories i had.

  • LOVE IT! Nice vid man keep em coming

  • too funny

  • i can see next vid being : how to repair minor back injuries out in the wild. followed up with: how to repair hard cases.

possibly with a series ender of: aluminium or plastic cases?

  • @dv8tion242 Yes I weave my own back brace using some tree vines.

  • Love it dude, wasn't expecting that...tis a true test....I refer to my KLR as a tool more often than I do a motorcycle...

  • @billmaa People don't know bout my Kung Fu.

  • I hear ya... Was riding with my dad on rain and we both slipped and fell because of oil in the wet road. My Suzuki V-Strom with all it's engine protection and bags nothing happened, barely scratched the bags. My dad's Harley Electra Glide? total loss! Had to use insurance and get another bike because the cost to fix the damage was 8K+. I was very proud of my bike, an authentic Stromtrooper!

  • @wdanda It's pretty crazy how just an easy fall can total many bikes.

  • I admit I winced >_<

Please, please, PLEASE don't lift your bike like that, I'm pretty sure the other technique is better, especially off-road where tyre traction can be limited.

You point the front tyre at the sky and lift from the bottom handlebar grip, once it's half way up you can twist around and rest against your leg before pushing up the last bit.

This alternative technique goes straight up and doesn't waste energy being pushed 'into' the bike

    Just my 2c

  • @jolyonruss that technique was taught to me by the first British woman to complete the Dakar Rally btw ;-)

And I've successfully used it on an R1200GS solo :-P

  • @jolyonruss Guess you will have to wait until tomorrow to find out if my spine turned into a slinky.

  • AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

  • what happened to "if you treat you bike right it will treat you right"

  • @JefferyCav Good point. KLR's were made to be abused. When I got it home I rubbed it down with a soft cloth (That was a lie).

  • i know, what you mean about them falling over. i have a brand new 2006 klr650, and when i dropped it i completely flipped out when it fell over. and when i picked it up there was no damage, so iz all goood

  • @ianconradbogle Yeah it's always scary first time you drop something that was so expensive.

  • he's gonna get you back for that, just when you need him most :O

  • @danmoto73 Revenge is a dish best served cold.

  • I've had a few bike.... but had I done a "kick em over" test, I would have to haul them off to the junk yard immediately after.

  • Nice vid! I like this test. As for lifting the bike back up, my understanding is, you have the most leverage if, you hold onto the handlebar grip that is on the ground with both hands and lift with the legs. Of coarse, I could be wrong. Anyway, Thanks for sharing!

    -Dave

  • @davekaza Tomorrow you're going to learn a whole new method for lifting a motorcycle.

  • @halfthrottle Sweet! Thank you for all the videos! Keep up the good work!

    -Dave

  • Thats exactly how I discribe my KLR to my friends.. It is what it is and I wont go broke owning it...

  • Lol, very good video.

  • Ouch! (That was a fun video)

  • @jeffkatzer Tomorrows "lifting it up" video is even better.

  • That was the main reason I got a KLR. I have dropped it many times. You pick the beast up and, it just keeps going. I would hate to drop the BMW equivalent.

  • @cashstore1 Cost of ownership for a BMW is astronomical.
