  • i tried this n ma dog snatched the whole treat out my back pocket lol. time to switch pocket

  • you know ram reizel?

  • Thanks for the video. I have a 7-year-old shepherd who heels off-leash quite well - until there is a distraction, although she'll go right back on heel when it's brought to her attention. This video is a good reminder to go back to basics on all things related to "weak areas."

  • how dizzy did you get? :)

  • wow he actually used a puppy isn't that obedient. it's easier to relate to.

  • A clicker isn't necessarily needed. He is using the same concept by using his voice, instead of a clicker, by marking the correct behavior with, "good, or good girl ". That "marks" the behavior and allows her to know she is likely to receive reinforcement, the same way a clicker would. A clicker is most effective for precision for complex behaviors. But a voice marker can always be used

  • Good work. And no clicker! Thanks man

  • This was extremely helpful. What if you don't have a nice classroom to train in and if you have 2 dogs? I think I'm going to have to train the dogs outside, if only so I can separate the two dogs. But I'll try it anyway. Thanks.

  • Thanks so much I want to be a cop with a k-9. I think it will be awesome experience.

  • thnks..

  • i have a 4 month old blue nose puppy he is huge for his age i crate train him and im having alot of issues when i walk him he drags me when i introduce him to people he jumps and is very excited and sometimes nips i am working on that ive tryed this exercise and nothing !! he just takes the treat once he has done it and then leaps foward and starts dragging

  • Just curious, why not use the koehler method for teaching how to heel?

  • This is really good. How long should I be doing phase 1 before I move onto phase 2?

  • It used to have to do with people carrying guns and not getting shot. In reality though, you can do it on either side.

  • @Pharaoh28 heel has been used since before gun powder was invented for herding animals...

  • why do you have to stay on your left

  • @raneve23 it depends on the shooter..im right handed so my duck dog heels on my left..and like my buddy is left handed..so his lab heels on his right..you never want to shoot on your dogs side

  • Now if I train this maybe 4 times a day for about 30min each time, is there going to be an issue of giving to many treats that will make my dog sick?

  • How do you get your puppy to focus in you or stare at you while heeling? Thanks Ben from toronto

  • There's something about a guy (especially such a tough looking one) telling a dog "good girl" in such an enthusiastic way that makes me so happy. This video is educational, helpful, and adorable. Wish me luck with my new monster - a 16 month old lab/greyhound mix!!

  • what if the puppy is 2 days old. you cant start doing that yet. XD

  • way should the dog stay on left and not on right ?

btw - love your first video at your site !

  • @macdasi AKC standards require that the dog be on your left...the reason for this was back in the day gentlemen carried thier gun on the right so the dog stayed on the left to avoid getting shot!

  • how often are you practiceing?please reply!

  • Cute :)

  • phase 2?

  • Thanks so much for the help!

  • this will be very useful, where do i get more guides?

  • Do you have videos on phase 2 and 3?

  • what kind of dog is that?

  • @oomylanta she looks like a blue great dane.

  • @spaziferous its a pitbull (american stafforshire, whatever). I think he says it in the video, but he definitely says it in his video on come

  • @oomylanta she looks like a american staff to me...

  • Excellent video, =o] I've been working with dog's (mainly staffordshire's and pitt bull type's) for a number of year's now, mostly removing agressive tendancy's (I look for aggresive/problematic dog's who would otherwise have unhumane end to life) I am looking to set up a training scheme, for teachin dog's basic command's such as heal, sit, stay, lay down, crawl etc, as I have been training my own pup, what kind of equipment's etc would I need, I will be initially starting off at home, thank's

  • can you look at my video called Banjo Heel and see if i am doing anything wrong?i have a feeling i am and i really want to know!!please message me or just reply to this if i did anything wrong in teaching banjo to heel!!what a cute puppy by the way!!you seem like an amazing fantastic dog trainer!

  • about how long should I practice the lessons everyday?

  • @VituMV This video is an example of a typical session. You want to end the session before the dog gets board. You can do 1 or multiple sessions per day depending on your schedule. A good idea is to do a session before each meal, since that is when dogs will be most motivated for treats.

  • @k91dogtraining you do mean bored?

  • awesome video... waiting for phase 2!
