well, I have never heard from him. And this is what the competition is about: you have to do your best in front of the judges. And my oppinion is based only on this performance, as It should be for the jugdes too. Kelly did not show ALL of the possibilities of her voice during her World Idol too, but she still was WAY BETTER then him. Maybe he can sound good too, but what matters is how he did in this particular competition. :)

Kelly is a great singer, but she has no personality in her voice really. She is that girl with a great voice...Kurt sings better live than recorded. He just opens his mouth and you get blown to the ground. He sings like this anywhere, if its live in a small tv-studio or in a taxi for that matter (listen to his "fly me to the moon" in a taxi). I doubt Kelly would sound nearly as good...

I have to disagree with a lot of the comments here. I'm Norwegian and I've seen Kurt do a lot better than this. In my opinion, his voice was a bit off in this, and I didn't like it very much..
@seriall1337 I tend to agree with you here. I've also heard him many times in concert. He seemed somewhat distracted and not "himself" during both his performances on this show. Compared to the recording of this song at Oslo Spektrum, I did, this is nowhere near as good. Did you see him last night on the Idrettsgalla show with KORK? Hope that appears on youtube shortly.

This is a REAL singer. I didn't even know about World Idol really, but I heard the name Kurt Nilson. I didn't expect to find such a unique vocal, combined with superior control. Just... whatever comments about his looks, it's talent that deserves to win. He has that-- a ton of it, enough to win any singing competition in any country.

Well Kurt did in the World Idol competition - top her that is! and yes you can come back with the fact that she's a "world star" fine - but I know who I'd pay to go and watch live!
Ignore the fool, I'm here in Canada and few know Kurt, yet every time I let people listen to some of his songs they're all in awe, more than with Kelly Clarkson, even if she's an excellent singer. Record sales and popularity don't mean anything, especially if you compare a singer from the USA with 300 million people and the skills to make a person a hit, to a country like Norway with about 5 million that don't have that "commercial circus" going on or a Kurt who simply wants to stay who he is.
Kurt has a voice and a way of singing that touches people, deep inside. He sings on YouTube a live version of the song "I" and in all honestly, it's of a level that most commerical singers can't reach and trust me, I've been listening to music for over 40 years, including the greatest in Jazz and vocal.
And take a video like "Kurt Nilsen karaoke taxi "Fly me to the moon"", seriously... how many artists can pull that of...sigh

as someone who has watched AI since season one, I never heard of any 'world idol' program...and I'm sure had it been more advertised/promoted in the USA, the outcome 'may' have been different. Not saying Kurt still wouldn't have won, but don't ride that "world idol" high-horse for too long please!

If Kurt has a big voice, as has been indicated in previous posts, then personally, this song does nothing to show case it! From simply "listening" to both performances (Kurt's and Kelly's), I think it's pretty clear that 'vocally', Kelly has the better voice...and I didn't even like her rendition of Aretha's song myself. Kurt's got a great voice and liked his performance in the vid for HALLELUJAH. I just don't think this performance really showed Kurt's range and power.

Can't your hear how big a voice he has? it's really amazing. i think some people judge him by the look of him, wich is the worst thing you could do. Kurt Nilsen has not only a big voice but a great and unique voice too. Maybe he's voice is best with country songs, but this song is done really well too. Try listening too "Hallelujah , (shrek song)" and hear his part. I simply love it, and Alejandro Fuentes part is great too. The two others are good as well, but not like Kurt and Alejandro.

I have to disagree with a lot of the comments here. I'm Norwegian and I've seen Kurt do a lot better than this. In my opinion, his voice was a bit off in this, and I didn't like it very much..

@seriall1337 I tend to agree with you here. I've also heard him many times in concert. He seemed somewhat distracted and not "himself" during both his performances on this show. Compared to the recording of this song at Oslo Spektrum, I did, this is nowhere near as good. Did you see him last night on the Idrettsgalla show with KORK? Hope that appears on youtube shortly.

This is a REAL singer. I didn't even know about World Idol really, but I heard the name Kurt Nilson. I didn't expect to find such a unique vocal, combined with superior control. Just... whatever comments about his looks, it's talent that deserves to win. He has that-- a ton of it, enough to win any singing competition in any country.

Ignore the fool, I'm here in Canada and few know Kurt, yet every time I let people listen to some of his songs they're all in awe, more than with Kelly Clarkson, even if she's an excellent singer. Record sales and popularity don't mean anything, especially if you compare a singer from the USA with 300 million people and the skills to make a person a hit, to a country like Norway with about 5 million that don't have that "commercial circus" going on or a Kurt who simply wants to stay who he is.

Kurt has a voice and a way of singing that touches people, deep inside. He sings on YouTube a live version of the song "I" and in all honestly, it's of a level that most commerical singers can't reach and trust me, I've been listening to music for over 40 years, including the greatest in Jazz and vocal.
And take a video like "Kurt Nilsen karaoke taxi "Fly me to the moon"", seriously... how many artists can pull that of...sigh

The thing is, that it's harder for a man to sing really good, then a girl. So if u look at it that way, Kurt is better then Kelly. Besides, they have different voices. So there's no point in saying that Kelly has a stronger voice or something like that. ;-D but anyways. Norway is a much smaller country, of course, our artists (yeah, im from norway), are not that known in America, like American artists are in Norway.

His albums are released through amazon in the USA. Unfortunately, as they are imports, they are relatively expensive.
For the time being Kurt seems happy recording and performing in his home country and being with his wife and children.

Norway or especially Kurt Nilsen does ride any world Idol Big Horse. We know hes the only world idol,and thats a thing many are proud of,because no one was sure of it.
Kurt himself has this in his history books a long time ago,he is looking forward. Tagging Kurt as World Idol on youtube is just simple,because many search for the key words for seeing him here. (Non-Norwegians)

If Kurt has a big voice, as has been indicated in previous posts, then personally, this song does nothing to show case it! From simply "listening" to both performances (Kurt's and Kelly's), I think it's pretty clear that 'vocally', Kelly has the better voice...and I didn't even like her rendition of Aretha's song myself. Kurt's got a great voice and liked his performance in the vid for HALLELUJAH. I just don't think this performance really showed Kurt's range and power.

Can't your hear how big a voice he has? it's really amazing. i think some people judge him by the look of him, wich is the worst thing you could do. Kurt Nilsen has not only a big voice but a great and unique voice too. Maybe he's voice is best with country songs, but this song is done really well too. Try listening too "Hallelujah , (shrek song)" and hear his part. I simply love it, and Alejandro Fuentes part is great too. The two others are good as well, but not like Kurt and Alejandro.

i'm going to be completely honest, and pretend i wasn't biased, because i am a huge kelly fan.
but HONESTLY, i didn't think this was all that. it kinda bored me. he didn't really show that much range, and some of the falsetto notes just really weren't there.
it was still pretty good though.
and now me going to back to being a biased kelly fan...

Actually I do not consider Kurt has "failed" in anyway. He has masses of fans around the world who go to great lengths to get hold of his albums and attend concerts. and has a family. I think Kurt is unwilling to have imposed on him all the "trappings and trimmings" that the music industry would put on him to "conform". He has done it his way. Just because Kelly has "made it", even though she cut short her last USA tour! does not mean she is superior - well it may in your eyes, but not mine.

actually, i think it might be a good thing that kurt didnt end up like kelly clarkson. i mean, hes not one of those celebrities that are followed by papparazzi's all the time, which is good. cause he can live his life outside of the media and he has a family, and he still gets to do what he loves,- to sing, and hes doing really well. and my opinion is .. well, kurts style of music doesnt really fit into the whole style that america has.
