99-2004 was little more than a reskin, engine and interior tweek of the 94-98 model years, They are sn95 chassis's. Ford wanted the mustang to maintain some synergy with its fleet. Funny enough the New Edge was great for aftermarket mustang designs. The crazy thing is the fact the sn95 chassis was a modified fox chassis which was initially developed for the 1978 Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr. So the chassis wasnt truly all new for over 3 decades!!

That type of snowballing of outdated chassis went on at all 3 american manufactures. In all that time of making small tweaks and keeping antiquated tech its no wonder why it was more cost effective to start with a clean slate ,close factories rather than retool.The factorys themselves were antiquated. Now all thats changed Thankfully! but the aftermath of such backwards ideals in production led to detroits great fall. You must evolve with the times, or your product will be antiquated.

wow i cant believe how many people come in here and think they know it all and claim what they know is true. Look point blank, from 1994 to 2004 these cars are called sn95, the 99 to 04 are called new "edge" because of the the slight difference of the body. instead of the rounded sides and the smooth body likes the new edge have points or an "edge" thats why its called a new edge, still a sn95 .

SN-95 94-04 but 94-98 1st platform 99-04 2nd platform or New Edge. There are several differences in the suspension on 99-04 vs 94-98 than just the body. Rear axel is wider, springs are stiffer, sway bars are larger. But its all FOX4 dating back to the falcon. for instance a 04 rear will bolt under a 79 GT with no issues with all ford parts. I know I've done it. we put a 99 IRS under a 84 Merc Capri with no issues. EVen used the cobra springs.
