This is a Great vid of the memorial of those who died in this tragic accident. Freedom isn't free!.....But i'm puzzled as to why that nobody seems to know about the Naval plane crash that happened in Poland,Maine, back in the '70s......Ive been told that ALL were killed and i have talked to 3 witness's who were on the scene within minutes for fire suppression, and ive seen no reports,no video,no photos,NOTHING!!! I wonder why this accident is so Secretive??????
@mackdetroit4life I havent heard of it either...but a quick search says that it was a P-3 Orion, with a crew of 14, crashed due to wing separation. I found a site with all of the information. Next time im in that area I will try to find the crashsite.
@CJpilot316 I have been told it is on Meguire Hill in Poland Maine.. Feel free to contact me,As i can get you in contact with Witnesses and people who were there on scene at that time.
@mackdetroit4life I remember it. I lived in Raymond at the time and rode my bike to the crash scene. It was a P-3 Orion and it crashed on or near Rte 11.
I've one question, 9 crew members? I'm a SAC Trained killer and worked B-52D's, G's and H models I don't think you could fit 8 people in the forward crew compartments. This model would have a crew size of 6 with the addition of 1 I/P. The Tail Gunner would be in the tail. The other 3 would have had to sit on the floor in the lower compartment. Don't get me wrong liked the video but it would be really cramped with 9 C/M's.
Being that the crash occurred in '63 near the height of the B-52's strategic significance, I'm really surprised the military didn't clean everything out of there for reasons of national security... Is the cockpit section still up there and identifiable?
@LateNightCable I was pretty surprised too. I looked for the cockpit, but I dont think it is up there. There doesnt seem to be enough wreckage for a full B-52, and I know the engines were removed, since one is on display at a local snowmobile club. Im gonna guess that the government took out the vitals. Still worth a trip up there though if you are ever in the area.
@FalconKPD You probably could actually. There is no security...it is pretty much just scattered through the woods off of a dirt road. There are signs requesting that you leave things at the site, but no real way to enforce it. You are right though...you would have to have serious issues to vandalize or steal anything from there.
@Barricade360 Navigator and Copilot survived after ejecting. The navigator's parachute failed to deploy, but he was saved because he landed in a snowdrift...he is the only person ever (As far as I have studied) to survive ejecting with a failed parachute from an aircraft in flight.
@CJpilot316 I read a story of an English Tail Gunner on a Lancaster that had to jump from his burning A/C without a parachute and survived. Nicholas Alkemade fell 18,000 feet and survived he was slowed by pine tree branches and landed in a snow bank. I remember that he was captured and was thought to be a spy until they found his A/C with his burned chute were he had to leave it. I would not have been that lucky I probably would have hit the tree trunk or been impaled on it!
@EIBBOR2654 Haha yeah, same here. I had read that this guy was the only one, but im probably incorrect. And there were 9 crewmembers...all of the signs on site, and even wikipedia says it. There were crewman lists on a few websites I found as well. Not sure if it matters, but this was a C model. Thanks for pointing this stuff out anyway!
Cool vid, thanks for posting

I think they should have cleaned it up and just left a stone monument. I don't think the families would want to see that mess

I suppose you couldn't get any "souvenirs" (not that I'd personally want to, this being a kind of grave site to the crew that died)
