Embryonic is their first real, visceral art work. oh my gosh, its amazing, if they keep improving from here and Radiohead keeps going down... well, we might have a new 'Greatest Band In The World'
Love this song. Embryonic might be my favorite album of theirs, and i have all of them, except Zaireeka. I'm seeing them Live for a second time this May, in Richmond. can't wait!
Saw these guys at Roy Wilkins auditorium in Minnesota last week, fourth show I've been to of them. I don't even think I'm even attending them for the music at this point, more like a a breath of fresh air from all the bullshit. An experience if you will.
hmm i dnt really like the song apart from 1:16 to 1:39 the break i guess u could call it is well nice but the rest of the song sounds like its just building and building!
In my opinion this is their best album. Though if you want deliciously mellow sounds "the Soft Bulletin" is great. If you want their old hard rock albums then I suggest "Hit to Death in the Future Head",Transmissions from the Satellite Heart", "The Clouds Taste Metallic". This is when they started to separate themselves from the normal alternative music scene and become their own thing.
This is one of my favourite songs from their new album. I really like it. The album is all around pretty badass. Its quite different from their other albums but Its different in a good way. Can't wait to see what they pull off next.
@asadeghi90 i'm sort of a newbie and happily starting with the new stuff and working backward. they are rad, i am glad i heard the music before i saw the actual band because--in their case, their music deserves full emersion without the distraction of a "look" as well, it is very sensorial in this way. makes me think i want to first experience music without seeing the band, but maybe every band is different how we process. i digress--so nice to have years of flaming lips albums to get into...
fucking awsome, i always see that advert on 4od awsome song, someone needs to remix this into some form of electronic music aswell would make fat dubstep :D
This band is evolving further with age!! the next CD will have you tripping balls without drugs, just from thier music and you will think you are on mars..LITERALLY!! got to LOVE the lips!
The Flaming Lips still detonating our heads. The truth is a pleasure to be in front of a band with a track like them and continue editing material as this GREAT album. One of the few bands with those moments of inspiration, we're left twisting in the air breathing beauty, strength and emotion. With The Flaming Lips. You are our dearest friends
I take back what I said before after having bought this and listened to it over the course of several weeks. You should buy this album. Just know that it's a whole different world from the Lips we've come to know. Don't expect to be uplifted. "Embryonic" finally reveals the dark side that the Lips have been hinting at since the beginning of their music. Be patient with it and it will reward you.
@Buldaner yeah its nothing like early lips, and thats probably a good thing, i heard this once on college radio somewhere and thought it was the legendary pink dots, that should tell you how good they are. good to see them growing up musically.

This is a great song, but don't buy the album. There are like three songs on there that are there worth paying for. The rest is unbearable noise pollution. And believe me, I love the Lips. But this album is definitely more of a science project than an approachable work of art.
@Buldaner I'd say this album is more of a work of art than an approachable science project. I think either way the lips would probably take that as a compliment
i was all set to give you a thumbs up for the first half of your comment...then you mentioned pitchfork as if it were some kind of great, informative, objective publication, which, if you read a lot of their reviews, they most certainly are not. so, thumbs down.
they've been on warner since the early nineties. not exactly "indie"(worst genre name possible) accomplished mindfuck rock and roll fits a little better.
Awesome song, sounds closer to Zaireeka and Soft Bulletin than the newer stuff, not to slight At War With The Mystics or Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. I love reminiscent stuff like this song.
