When using a mould with resin what should the mould be made out of? I see lots of moulds around but worry that the material they are made from would react with the resin and be unsafe.
@JazziJewellery I typically buy molds that specifically say they are for resin. you can also use silicone molds, like you can get for shaped ice cubes....... I don't recommend the thin candy molds made from smooth clear plastic. They won't be reusable.
You can try different disposable things too, like those little trays chocolates come in for Valentines day. Those are thin enough that you can cut it up and peel it off the hardened resin. Just think about what shape it will make
@studuatiga I clean them by turning the bottle upside down, stick the stir stick inside of the bottle and prop it up in a throwaway cup. After the resin hardens, roll the bottle between your fingers to loosen the resin then pull the stick out, hopefully the resin comes out in one piece on the stick!
what kind of resin is that ive got resin crafting or the stuff that turns white not clear i got mine at hobbylobby and thats the only kind that they have where did u get urs
is this resin photo friendly? what I am trying to ask is can I use a photo instead of a sticker? if i use the photo would i place it face down like you have placed your stickers in this video? does the photo have to be photo paper or copy paper?
@eastsaintlouis62203 I would spray a clear acrylic coating over it first, so the colors don't bleed. Some people just put the photo in unfinished, I have never tried photos yet
@eastsaintlouis62203 I get my squeeze bottle from a local craft store called Pat Catan's you could probably find them on Ebay though. I clean them by turning the bottle upside down, stick the stir stick inside of the bottle and prop it up in a throwaway cup. After the resin hardens, roll the bottle between your fingers to loosen the resin then pull the stick out, hopefully the resin comes out in one piece on the stick!
This is probably a dumb question, but just to be sure... you can't use your squirty bottle again, right? Or is it possible to clean the uncured resin out so you can use it again?
@ErinTalamasca Prop your bottle upside down with a stir stick inside of it and let it dry a day, then squeeze the bottle to loosen the resin and try to pull the stick out with the resin attached.
@Samssgraphics yes it will get hot. You want to be careful if you are using throwaway mixing cups that they do not catch fire in your trashcan, I never had a problem but I read that somewhere else.
@MrKeithStone I use Envirotex lite that you can get at most craft stores (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc)
You would have to get a mold maker probably as well to make a mold of your old shift knob. The mold maker is usually sold by the resin. I suggest lots of practice first!
@Sweetf0rmysweet what you can do after you sand the edges is apply a coat of clear nail polish like Sally Henson and the cloudiness will go away. When i use my brownie silicone mold they come out cloudy on the top but the nail polish takes care of that

If you want your resin to come out crystal clear, try Ice Resin or I get mine from Little-Windows. Both are really good.

vernusdraco 4 months ago
@vernusdraco It depends on what kind of resin you have, read the directions on the package. The kind I use requires equal parts

but the plastic molds aren't hard to get off of it?
Sweetf0rmysweet 9 months ago
You need some molds like I have! They will make them shiny. Those rubber molds you use aren't as smooth

My best Resin Teacher :D
Now I can make the mixture as it should be. my only problem now is that when removing the mold parts they are not brilliant but opaque or dull :(
