The British seem to train their Royal marines into a Special forces unit, interested in learning more about the United States Marines. Can your guys get deployed after basic training? @MrJazzeJ It is always good to make informed decisions. There is good and bad in serving in the military. It is a calling for some, it is also part of one's karma I think. I went in the Navy because it was my karma. You, perhaps it is not your path. I have no regrets though. I got to see lots of cool and not so cool places and learned lots about life. Saw whales, sharks and dolphins at sea. Awesome sights I will never forget, as well as some bad things too.
I've always want to be a marine ever since I was 8 years old. But my parents want me to go to the navy academy, but I 100% don't want to go there! I'm only 13 years old so any advice?
@pringles509 GO to the Naval Academy by all means! The Marine Corps is part of the Navy. Graduation from the Naval Academy guarantees a commission as a second lieutenant in the Marines or Ensign in the the Navy. You have the option to go Marines or Navy while in your third year at the Academy. Plus a degree from the Academy is very prestigious. Also, I think that getting involved in a JROTC program, regardless of branch will help as well. Good luck and SEMPER FI!
@pringles509 Other advice. Getting into a service academy is very competetive, so another option is ROTC in college. Usually Navy ROTC programs are better, because, as I said, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy. Recruiters can give you the appropriate info as can your high school guidance counselor. Also, stay out of trouble. Avoid drugs and keep your record clean. The military does not want druggies or felons. Get in physical shape too. It is good to see a kid with goals.
@pringles509 I assume you are in Junior High right now. Look at what your high school offers in regards to JROTC programs. Regardless of branch, JROTC will give you a good exposure to the military and the instructors (at least the ones I had) will help you out. If there is no JROTC, look for organizations like Civil Air Patrol, Sea Cadets, Young Marines, etc...Any are a good background. Also, learn as much as you can before joining. It is not all guts and glory and excitement.
@pringles509 Don't jump into it. I got screwed myself, because I did. Instead of becoming a Navy Corpsman with the Marines (Marines use Navy Medics), I wound up as a deck seaman. Regardless of if you go to the academy or enlist, Pick the career option that YOU want. If it is not on your contract, then DON'T SIGN IT! The needs of the military will supersede what you want unless it is in writing. Recruiters are kind of like used car salesmen. Buyer beware.
Respond to this video...I am a Gulf War vet. Disabled. I lost a finger, messed up my back and have PTSD. I never personally killed anyone, but saw people die and had to clean up the mess. I still have nightmares and flashbacks. The government gave me drugs that were not even tested on animals and some folks I know are sick because of those medications. My dad was in Vietnam and he can hardly walk from being hit with grenade frags and wakes up screaming every night.
@pringles509 I don't regret serving, would do so again probably, but part of me is angry because I don't agree with how the military is used sometimes. That is my opinion. My advice. Learn as much as you can and make an informed decision. If the Marines is what you want, Go for it! Just understand that war is horrible. There is nothing good in it, except its end. The camera men were not armed and were mistaken IN THERMAL that the outline of their cameras were AK's and an RPG which is accurate, because the way they held them (Specifically the RPG one) Yes, they were completely innocent and it was a giant screw up on the pilot and gunner's fault, however, it was on accident and they were court marshalled.

@The4ization The marines interest me, I just wanted to know what the deal was for the Marines in comparison to the other forces. The British seem to train their Royal marines into a Special forces unit, interested in learning more about the United States Marines. Can your guys get deployed after basic training? Heard somewhere they can, Knowing what the media are like, its probably an over exaggeration.

@MrJazzeJ It is always good to make informed decisions. There is good and bad in serving in the military. It is a calling for some, it is also part of one's karma I think. I went in the Navy because it was my karma. You, perhaps it is not your path. I have no regrets though. I got to see lots of cool and not so cool places and learned lots about life. Saw whales, sharks and dolphins at sea. Awesome sights I will never forget, as well as some bad things too.

I've always want to be a marine ever since I was 8 years old. But my parents want me to go to the navy academy, but I 100% don't want to go there! I'm only 13 years old so any advice?

@pringles509 GO to the Naval Academy by all means! The Marine Corps is part of the Navy. Graduation from the Naval Academy guarantees a commission as a second lieutenant in the Marines or Ensign in the the Navy. You have the option to go Marines or Navy while in your third year at the Academy. Plus a degree from the Academy is very prestigious. Also, I think that getting involved in a JROTC program, regardless of branch will help as well. Good luck and SEMPER FI!

@pringles509 Other advice. Getting into a service academy is very competetive, so another option is ROTC in college. Usually Navy ROTC programs are better, because, as I said, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy. Recruiters can give you the appropriate info as can your high school guidance counselor. Also, stay out of trouble. Avoid drugs and keep your record clean. The military does not want druggies or felons. Get in physical shape too. It is good to see a kid with goals.

@pringles509 I assume you are in Junior High right now. Look at what your high school offers in regards to JROTC programs. Regardless of branch, JROTC will give you a good exposure to the military and the instructors (at least the ones I had) will help you out. If there is no JROTC, look for organizations like Civil Air Patrol, Sea Cadets, Young Marines, etc...Any are a good background. Also, learn as much as you can before joining. It is not all guts and glory and excitement.

@pringles509 Don't jump into it. I got screwed myself, because I did. Instead of becoming a Navy Corpsman with the Marines (Marines use Navy Medics), I wound up as a deck seaman. Regardless of if you go to the academy or enlist, Pick the career option that YOU want. If it is not on your contract, then DON'T SIGN IT! The needs of the military will supersede what you want unless it is in writing. Recruiters are kind of like used car salesmen. Buyer beware.

@pringles509 Get a good ASVAB score. It will help determine your qualification for your job in the military. Also, ask yourself the following:
Do I want to put myself in a position, where I may have to kill another human being?
Do I want to allow myself to be put in a position where I can be killed or physically and psychologically maimed for life?
Do I have faith in the National Command Authority (The president and those under him) to utilize me in the right way? Is it worth my life?

Respond to this video...I am a Gulf War vet. Disabled. I lost a finger, messed up my back and have PTSD. I never personally killed anyone, but saw people die and had to clean up the mess. I still have nightmares and flashbacks. The government gave me drugs that were not even tested on animals and some folks I know are sick because of those medications. My dad was in Vietnam and he can hardly walk from being hit with grenade frags and wakes up screaming every night.

@pringles509 I don't regret serving, would do so again probably, but part of me is angry because I don't agree with how the military is used sometimes. That is my opinion. My advice. Learn as much as you can and make an informed decision. If the Marines is what you want, Go for it! Just understand that war is horrible. There is nothing good in it, except its end. And the price a soldier pays is very high, sometimes too high. It is up to you. Good luck and God Bless.
