  • Loved Dame Judi & her late husband in 1980's' Love In A Cold Climate' due for DVD release 26 September 2011

  • She is Fabulous!

  • If Judi Dench and Stephen Fry were to have a baby, it would automatically ebcome the English equivalent of Chuck Norris!!xDD

    Hehehehe

  • @CulturePeaceForever Angela Landsbury is British as well

  • I love Judy Dench in several PBS tiv.series, and especially as M in 007,Also Benedict Cumberbatch in PBS Sherlock Holmes is superbly a genius actor. British actors & actresses indeed have awesome presence and ways of speaking.Something about their presence stands out extraordinarily!

  • my mum said that she sat right behind dame judi dench in Cafe Rouge a few years ago in Stratford. I was soooooo jealous!!!

  • mp5n 9mm 30rnd mag roller locking bolt heckler koch safe semi auto

  • hehe my gran's aunt used to own a fish shop years back, when judi dench was just a little girl, she used to go in sometimes with her mum to buy fish from her, and apparently one day, there was a table outside with loads of freshly caught fish, and she just took one becuase she thought that they were there for people to take XD then the next day her mum took her back to say sorry =]

  • HA! the....the....the...

    Lemur?

    Monkeys!

    ...

  • This Dame is one of the best actors I have ever seen. I do like her.

  • ahh its agent M

  • Judi Dench is a great actress i am only a young man but you dont get good old fashion actors like her anymore she always reminds me of my mother for some reason and very sweet gentle person well done Judi you are worth everything you have given to the film industry.

  • It must be a thrill for a writer to have actors like Judi Dench bring their words to life. What a marvelous woman. Actually I find I very much like and respect Michael Parkinson too.

  • Because she's a great actress and Angela Lansbury isn't.

  • Why not a Dame Commander?

  • There are different levels of the "Order of the British Empire"

Dame Judi Dench is a Dame Commander and Angela Lansbury is a Commander

  • Angela Lansbury may not have been bestowed with Dame due to her taking American Citizenship in 1951. Honourary Titles can be given to Americans but never the title of Dame hence Angela Lansbury is CBE...However Elizabeth Taylor is a Dame due to being born in the UK. However i still feel Angela Lansbury should be given the Title of Dame, she is a fabulous British actress like Dame Judi and Dame Maggie Smith..its a shame but i can't see it happening afterall she is now a US citizen...

  • I should actually just clarify what i said there lol...Elizabeth Taylor can be a Dame of the British Empire as she has dual citizenship...she was born to American parents on British soil, therefore has rights in the UK and the US so to speak...its a quirk in the system and unfair to the likes of Angela Lansbury...hopefully the rules may change afterall she may have US citizenship but she is still British and always will be

  • @callie2003 Judi and Maggie are Dames because they are GREAT actresses who have used their talents in service to the British film and theatre industry. Sure, they have gone to America to do a few movies here and there, but they are primarily actors who work in Britain for British audiences. Angela, who is a very good actress, not judi dench's league, went to America to service the American audiences. She hasn't performed in Britain in decades! Thats why shes not a dame of the BRITISH empire.

  • @Teezer44 Dench is a very good actress but, do not underrate Angela. I have watch her movies when she was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. My god! she was breathtaking. My wife and I have the entire Murder She Wrote series and pick days when we sit and watch for hours. I believe that Angela IS in the same league as Dench. The fact that the queen does not recognize her talent is her fault.

  • @Teezer44 Anglela Lansbury is a legend and a Great actress. Actually, I 'd say that it's Dame Judi as wonderful as she is (and she's a terrific performer) who is not quite in the same league as Ms. Lansbury. Lansbury, who is one of the greatest actresses of her time, is insanely versatile. Her performance in The Manchurian Candidate is the greatest to ever nominated for Best Supporting Actress Oscar, and her stage work is simply unbeatable: Gypsy, Mame,Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music and so on

  • she has a great humour. i can't imagine how amazing it would be to have a conversation with such a wise woman.

  • Has anyone seen the movie "Shipping news" with Dame Ms Dench and Kevin Spacey? My all-time favourite, worth checking out.

  • I absolutely agree with what they say about Shakespeare and new generations!

  • CLASS = Judy Dench

  • I Loved her in Chocolat as the bitter old french woman she was so funny.

  • One of the living legend of british and world cinema. I love this woman.

  • She has *SUCH* a beautifully unique and sophisticated voice! It would be an immense gift to animation and/or video games if she ever were to lend her voice to them.

  • Very true!

  • maybe she will,

just like christopher lee, and many other older actors

  • i love her soul.

  • She's fantastic and as an actress. . .

  • I like her,she looks like those strict school teachers, she was the perfect actress for the role of strict school teacher in notes on a scandal

  • I heard she is scared to drive a car her husband drove her and she has a chauffer but he is not always available. she probably did she said she drives all over the road if she has to drive. She hates it.

  • How wonderful is Judi?!

  • Is real actging in decline? I came to the terrible realization recently that real acting is in decline. The roots of acting are deeply embedded in Theater and Shakespeare - in fact, Shakespeare re-introduced acting into England after it went into recession. Real acting is and will always be Theater and with the movie industry and special effects being more popular, then actors are having to dop less and films arent about acting anymore, thier about Special FX.

  • I cannot disagree more, and here's why: Yes, mainstream blockbuster movies often do become about SFX, and it is true that in general, film is the medium of the director. HOWEVER, with the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Day Lewis, Cate Blanchet, Robert Downey Jr., Dustin Hoffman, and Michael Caine, who all found careers as film actors, skill and precision and talent is still brought to film acting.

  • If you look away from Blockbuster cinema and more to the independant, experimental cinema, you will find great acting still. Furthermore, I'm an actor and a student of acting and I find that the classics, Euripidies, Sophocles, Aeschylus, and Shakespeare, have helped my period acting, but have had a tremendous impact on my contemporary acting as well, and I am a person who comes from a theatre background.

So, I don't think it's in decline at all. I think acting is at a point of great change now

  • Yes, and she can surely does it like no one else! Shakespeare's surely in his grave being grateful. Judi Dench is total class, brilliance, and humor personified. What a hero! Her ability to be so incredibly present and connected is just awesome. There is nothing greater than to GET what words mean, right? That is one of the unique qualities of being human. Words and speech, and man she sooooo gets it! Lucky for all of us who get to enjoy her genius!

  • She advised me on a kettle to buy in Peter Jones years ago......

  • One of the greatest EVER...

  • My friend almost got run over by her

  • she is such an interesting woman!

She should do more interviews, these are great.

  • I believe that her mentioning Shakespeare being "off the syllabus" isn't as in it is actually physically off, but rather it isn't taught as vigilantly as it used to be, which as a English BAHons up to this point in life I totally agree with. It gets better later on in uni but not before then really.

  • as much as i love judi dench to pieces, it has to be said shakespeare is well and truly ON the syllabus. I should know, i have been given THREE essays to write on rhetoric over the christmas holidays.

  • lucky you!

  • indeed

  • Shakespeare isn't off the syllabus.

  • who would take shakespeare off the syllabus? and in england, no less. that's crazy.

  • I love Judi, i would love to see a film with Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and (my fav) Julie Andrews in it.

  • I second to that

  • Cease the bickering. Let's just respect and honor Judi Dench...let's not waste comments on sarcasm and ridicule.

Dame Judi Dench is the most extrodinary sort of artist...passionate & still classy, driven & still compassionate, dedicated & still humble. Brilliant woman!

  • I love Judi Dench. She is amazing actor. I love her work.

  • I.LOVE.HER. She is the BEST Actress in the world... with meryl streep

  • Incredible woman, Hero, Authentic, Genuine, Funny, Absolutely Cool, Brilliant! There is nothing cooler on Earth than a Judi Dench!!! Just AWESOME!

  • Better than wanting to become a writer.

  • You have evidently mistaken sarcasm for comedy.

  • > Golly gosh! Well you've certainly exceeded yourself

    > I dare say.

    > So tell me, I'm interested, what do you do then??

    > What...browse youtube *finding random people to talk to?*

    > i'm sorry you'll have to excuse my ignorance,

    > it's just i'm kind of new to this whole sort of thing.

    Spot the irony.

  • > Oh no sweetie don't worry it was spotted!

    > I guessed that you'd be doing this all day but it's hilarious!

    > So please do knock yourself out repeating me!

    > Although it's awfully sad that

    > you clearly don't have anything else to say

    > and so we can't resume our interesting conversation...

    > i guess *this is my last reply* in that case :'( *sob

    Really?

  • writers write the words Judi speaks!

  • ?

  • Writers write what Judi speaks, true. But, she transforms their words into magic. Not all actors can do them justice. She has a special touch and approaches the words in a unique way that make them her own.

  • Judi Dench has such a lovely manner. She is the type of person that makes me proud to be british.

  • I agree, in a celebrity obsessed world where the spotlight is on he or she who screetches the loudest or who is willing to bare the most it is refreshing to see genuine talent cutting through the mediocrity.

  • So true! This is true talent and class. She amazes me. As an American, I envy you her!

  • As a child...

  • first comment, hmm cats dressed up?
