I was honored to be in a workshop Choir with The Maestro in CT in the late 80's. I was the only Caucasian in the choir, and I was also a soloist. Minister Whitfield called me aside Sunday night when it was all over, and gave me a word from the Lord concerning my fervent style of Worship. I will never forget it, or him......RIP great man
I am so hurt about this. OmG. The man was so far ahead of the game vocally and musically. I hate he's gone. He was a prodigy. Omg, I just want to b ready when the Lord calls
Yes, not to come off as a rude jerk but I wonder if he felt sick before he had collapsed and passed away in 1992? I know he's been gone now nearly 20 years, but I wonder how his family is doing now? God works in mysterious ways, but like anybody, I feel bad that he left so so soon, although I know now he's a peace and in the hands of the Father.
Wow...this was short but so informative. I've always loved the Maestro. I too miss his his awesome contribution to gospel music. See ya in the "Heaven Mass Choir" Maestro.
Thomas Whitfield had a relationship with GOD that was totally off the chain. It showed in his music, and that's why some of us sing his music regularly, to usher in the very prescence of GOD. No disrespect to our young current artists, doin a great job, but those of us that grew up on Whitfield and sung his music, we shall never forget those days.
I am so surprised that he is not honored more often even from his home town.. He was before his time. His chords and harmonies... I wish that I could find all of his albums and cassettes... I don't mind paying good money for them. He's one of the reasons I started playing. I loved his chord placement and it has really influenced my style of playing and writing gospel music...
Thomas Whitifield was one of the Greatest gospel peformers of all times, never to be forgotten as a Super Star that contributed so much and by inspiring so many individuals.
how does that saying go that old folks use when referring to people who are always "joking"?...oh, I remember now: "Fools names and fools faces always appear in public places"!!!
Never got to meet him in person, but his music has definitely influenced my craft as a singer and minister of music. He and Olanda Draper are my greatest gospel mentors
Ok, I just did some checking on wikipedia: it said that he had his heart attack at an elias brothers after a lengthy rehearsal. It says nothing, however, about him choking on their food. Sorry for any confusion!
My Lord. Well thanks for clearing it up. Wow he was phenominal. My goodness. I am so proud of those how keep his music alive. Well I guess the Spirit .behind it keeps it flowing . My husband started me really listening to him with A Word from the Lord. I heard his music prior to then but did not know the name of the artist. Thanks again
