They did this song toghther, it was a hit, when they broke up, each one did it solo, and each one was a hit on there own, I think this is the only song, that has ever been preformed in these 3 ways, by the same people, and each way was a hit, Can someone check this out,? and see if i'm right.
One of my favorite songs ever. You do it justice Paul and should go on to be a very popular singer. Bravo to you! Keep going. I have saved this song and will listen often it is soooo beautiful.
I was scared at first, when I came across this video. It takes a lot of nerve to try to compete with a performance like Bobby Hatfield did on this song. The bar is so high. But Salvage pulled it off perfectly. Absolutely perfect. He did justice to the Righteous.
This is a beautiful version of the Righteous Brothers hit, I'm sure Bobby Hatfield would be pleased with it. You have a great voice, are you still singing?
@nedleyolpal - Wonder stuff Paul! i love the Matt Monro version of this song too. I was on a cruise recently and met the Nelson brothers, who are as good as ever. Get on the cruise ships mate, as you will literally have a "captive" audience!
Holy mackerel, this guy sounds just like Bobby Hatfield--I've seen the Righteous Brothers live five times, and I've been a fan for years... and this is guy sounds just like Bobby! Great vid!
Great to hear this again, I recorded it at the time and played it over and over. What's he doing now? Interesting that in the early days of 'stars in their eyes' they had to come back with a different song. Made it much more challenging!
It was very challenging as I only had half an hour to learn and run through the song before recording the live show I was more nervous on this one than Unchained melody. thanks for your post.
@nedleyolpal Well done, sir! I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded, and this is certainly the best rendition I have ever heard!
@kantanyo Bobby Hatfield was found dead in the Radisson at the age of 63, just a brief time before he was to perform with Bill Medley (as the Righteour Brothers) at the Miller Auditorium on the Western Michigan University campus. It was rumored that he died from a overdose of cocaine... but Bill Medley said he never had a reason to suspect an addiction. That was Bobby Hatfield's voice, and I'm sure it was him, but I declare it does not look like any Righteous Brother I ever saw.
@bfgrant32208 I think there is some confusion here! I was aware that Bobby Hatfield was sadly no longer with us, my comment was directed at the British singer featured in this video Paul Salvage. Paul did this excellent tribute to Bobby Hatfield on British TV some years ago and my comment was actually asking where is Paul now? However, thanks for responding to my comment as it made me revisit and play this video again.
Paul Salvage sang at my 50th Birthday last Friday in a Club in a Devon village. An amazing talent, warmth and friendly personality and delightful manner make him the compilation of first class entertainment. His voice is absolutely awesome and his humour is second to none. My birthday could not have been made more special by anybody. Thank you Paul. It was a night that will never be forgotten and I wish you continued success. Love and best wishes, Maggie.
This was from the final of the 1992 series, as Paul Salvage won an earlier show in the series but sang a different song (Unchained Melody). RIP: Leslie Crowther, CBE (1933-1996), the greatest compare/gameshow host of all time. Sadly this was his last ever hosting of 'Stars' and the last regular work he did before his car accident later that year. Thankfully I have most of the Leslie Crowther/Matthew Kelly years on tape. Cat Deeley was boring on Stars in Their Eyes.
I never met him in person, but I wrote to Leslie through his agent a couple of times just before he died in 1996 and he wrote back both times. He was THE true gentleman of Saturday night TV. Stuff Simon Cowell!!!
I remember this I was 4 years old when Paul Salvage was on Stars In Their Eyes in 1992. He performed as Bobby Hadfield really well. He sung the song really well too. When I first watched his performance on TV it gave me goosebumps. Good bless Leslie Crouther he is a legand. RIP Leslie. He was a good host but not as good as Matthew Kelly..
Matthew Kelly was brilliant as host of Stars in their eyes. I remember that Matthew used to a lot of colourful waistcoats in his early days of hosting the show.
What an amazing range..what feeling..amazing artist..thank you for sharing..I get goose bumps listening to this song...( outstanding ) *smiles*

Leslie Crowther was a great man a gentleman and an excellent speaker, I had the pleasure
of his company on a number of occasions including one of many of his charity fundraisers in late 1992, where he excelled as speaker.
he is surely missed.
