  • A makina ! An embrace, in time !

  • i just puked

  • whats that for a drum kit?

    can you post details?

  • i like safri duo!

  • this is fantastic. you can actually see when he gets "in the zone". great job Johannes. this is what American Idols judges would call making it your own.

  • Not to pop your bubble, but I found the original of the solo on a Verve-Folkways album named "Drums of India. Note for note the same, except played on tradtional Indian drums. Check it out.

  • parts of it makes me think of the drum solo in "the end" by the beatles

  • @hezzlo

Ain't that a reference to Iron Butterfly anyway? I always thought so and read somewhere Ringo tried to imitate it, but you hardly find anything about it on the net.

  • Excellent drum solo!............You started and finished real close to in a gadda da vida, but then did your own solo......again, excellent, but "not in a gadda da vida". Dave

  • is it just me or is your timing off by 1/2 beat?

Otherwise good demostration for the drums.

  • Hopeless.. Play another instrument!

  • very nice

  • Im 13 and i just learned this song today.........IT KICKS ASS!

  • When I was a youngster the original version was played over and over again, and I have just viewed it on youtube, but this man was unbelieveble,my god I have just listened to that performace on headphones give it a try it's great.

  • dafür , das das ein classic drum set ist , ist das verdammt gut

    sehr gut gelungen

  • Not bad!

  • great solo

    iron butterfly is iron butterfly

    this is great to :-)

  • I love the cymbal part at 4:20

  • haha my dad hasnt been playing drums for almost 30 years and im only 18 but whenever i ask him to play he does this kinda thing too :P, starts off with that solo thn just keeps going into some crazy jungle stuff lol

  • Love the tuning of the toms and snare. Nice time sig, use of hats, fills, etc.

    Well-played, bro.

  • I know nothing about drumming at all, but I must say I far prefer this style of drumming to, say, John Bonham's. Nothing against Bonham, but this actually has a groove to it. It's almost melodical, the way Ron Bushy played this solo.

  • it rocks

    \m/

  • Cool! Starts off like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, then becomes a bit more original! Love it!

  • It is always a crowd pleaser to give them what they expect, and then a bit more that they didn't. If you only go and play the exact same things they are used to hearing for all the songs you might as well be a high paid jukebox. This happens to be a song that has wide openings for piano, guitar, and (of course) drum solos after the originals. People may or may not like what you are doing,. but they listen to it because it catches their attention. I'd have to say,."Right on Man!"

  • Hey Mr. Jgardner2122 It wasn't my intention to write everything on CAPS LOCK.

I was just in a hurry when I added my COMMENT to explodiert's Channel...

Enjoy the video!!!...It's interesting how JOHANNES GEBAUER improvises this solo without missing the music sequence!!! The man holding the microphone could not have any clue on how long this DRUM SOLO could finished!!!

Relax, enjoy and kick back buddy!!!

  • More elaborate and complex? I don't think so. more whacks on the drums, yes, I will give you that. But I love drum music, I'm a wannabee drummer, just never tried. Maybe some day, of course I better make that quick, it won't be long and I will be gone as old as I am. So thanks for posting.

  • fun to watch & listen to

  • i dont get wats so great about this, its repetitive and simple.

  • NO OFFENSE TO RON BUSHY'S FANS (IRON BUTTERFLY'S ORIGINAL DRUMMER), BUT JUST LIKE GUNMAN IN THE OLD WEST...THERE'S ALWAYS SOMEONE FASTER OR BETTER!!!!! HELLOOOOO!!! ...BY FAR THIS SOLO IS SO ELABORATE THAT EVEN... JOHN BONHAM FROM LED ZEPPELIN COULD NOT BE ABLE TO MATCH IT....I have heard 2 million different drummers...THIS MAN WAS THE BEST!!!!!!.............JOHANNES GEBAUER......YES, INDEED!!!

  • @LocutorMysterio

Caps lock makes the Grammar Nazis appear.

  • i'd rather hear a cover of the original. if ur gonna put ur own twist on it, than make it special, this is not

  • that is so amazing. I would give just about anything to be able to have the skills to jam like that.

  • Now learn to play it right! This is so disrespectful to Ron Bushy, hes the guy that recorded the original classic drum solo. The only thing is...............I, being the old hippie that I am saw this song played live 7 times back in the day and Ron never played it the same way twice, all close to the original but variations for sure!! Nice try stroker..............but no cigar!!!!!!!!!!

  • all you nay-sayers can just go fuck them selves or do your own version. Either show us your bad ass demo even half as good as this kid or ride the fuckin pine you posers. In my opinion probably a better drummer than the original. If you don't like what I'm sayin...then make your own fuckstick

  • Holding the lumber incorrectly. ;)

  • If this is supposed to be the drum solo from Iron Butterfly, it sucks...not even close.

  • The original was great for what it was but I think there were much better drummers in the period. Wilson, Nelson and Rich come to mind... I think In a gadda da vida gave us our first modern drum solo so it commands respect for that but it is a tad bit.....boring.

This kid did a good job.

  • I LOVE THIS PART SOOOOOOO MUCH§

  • This guy's on fire!!

  • No song in history has every published a drum solo of such popularity since "In A Gadda Da Vida". I have never heard it performed the way it was recorded the first time by any other drummer. Why does every drummer screw it up trying to make a classic better?

WOuld you have been knocked out over this solo. There are no dynamic changes in the sound of the drums.

  • I can appreciate a drum solo without all the overdone double bass crap.

  • Someone buy this guy a kick drum mic stand! :)

  • The first thing that will louse up a perfectly good track or drum solo, is a drummer with no rhythm.

Timing is everything, especially in music.

What a remarkably shameful massacre of a magnificent, classic drum solo. Unrecognizeable by anyone familiar with the original.

If he had any shame, the drummer should demand it be taken off YouTube - and he should destroy the tape.

  • Yeah, Blah, blah, blah... Quit trolling.

  • @HuiCiWiDupi Yeah, sure. Trolling by leaving a comment.

    Brilliant concept.

  • @MichaelRMcCoy "Shameful massacre"? It's a new, interesting take on the original solo, keeping the general theme of a driving 4/4 bass beat along with complex tom work and rolls. Timing hardly ever falters and more often then not he's locked in a great groove. He shows some great use of dynamics on the toms and the entire solo has a nice sense of 'build'. The accusation that he is a "drummer with no rhythm" is, at least in my opinion, laughable...

  • @guitarbumx Interesting take on the original? Locked in a great groove?

Obvious, to room of drunken beeboppers.

Improv is fine, marked by a lack of a plan - best left to those with a reasonable alternative, (and the skills to pull it off).

Not when the original is ignored - its soul unrecognizeable.

A genuine Rembrandt shouldn't be attempted by a 2nd year art student

Laughable, is an attempt to associate this "solo" with the original. Call it what you'd like, just not In-A-Godda-Da-Vida.

  • @MichaelRMcCoy I dunno, I kind of agree with chrometanned on this one - the original was interesting for the time but for a modern drummer it is a little...dry, perhaps. Subjective, of course, but in any case noone said that this guy was in a tribute band! It would be like saying that Paul Gilbert's solo(s) ruined Yellow Matter Custard's cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I think the drums here are hesistant at first but becomes a fun and certainly more intense solo as it goes on.

  • @guitarbumx "An original" -- "the original" is just that -- laid down for the ages in a single version. The original artist isn't able to revise or elaborate. So, like anything by da Vinci, Beethoven or Shakespeare, (or Zeppelin for that matter), a copy/imitation/facimile should be, at the very least, respectful.

Imagine Junior Walker's solo in "Urgent"/Foreigner played as unrecognizeable, comprised of random, aimless sax riffs -- largely designed to demonstrate prowess -- yet absent of soul.

  • thank you that was great!!

  • Masterful.

  • he's workin that bass huh?

  • It's awful nice of him to work his ass off like that while I sit here on the couch with my laptop!! Oh, 10-4 on the poor guy with the mic!

  • Who's the poor guy holding the mic in front of the drum for 5 minutes and 43 seconds! LOL

  • Someone's going to hammer me for this but i thought the original drum solo was ok, and definately a first. just not as great as people made it out to be. i'm glad you improvised here. That's just what it needed and you did a damn good job my friend!

  • drumorgasm

  • not good technique

  • @elmasmamon1983 Why not?

  • Comment removed

  • how does he keep the bass drum going that fast for that long, he must have legs like god

  • its not hard when you are trained..

  • or had a few beers! LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a good drummer too but that is unbelievebal so fucking awesome WOW!!!

  • Three words:

    AWE-SOME DRUMS!

  • I grew up on the original but this ain't half bad. Love the way he fixes his hair at 4.19!!!

  • Comment removed

  • dude ur rythmed

  • he stays on the same beat for way to long. LMAO, if i was high, this might sound really cool. i like how he needs an announcer to get applause. Thats hilarious.

  • Jealous.

  • u kidding me hes all over the place with the toms, and its acctually kinda hard 2 keep the bass steady when ur going nuts on the toms like that

  • dude i have listened to this high, and it is really too damn good

  • super solo!!

  • booooorfkniiiiiiing

  • Oh...check out JOE Morello if you want to see some techniques and other drum worthy solos

  • Oh...check out Billy Cobham if you want to see some techniques and other drum worthy solos

  • Initially not a bad start but style wise got to be pretty repetitive. Good skills but need more influx of stylish executions. You can tell he got tired in the end as his high hat stopped and kinda ran out of ideas. Sometimes you tone down your work to get new ideas...buys time.

Then initiate them and go another direction.

Then again...i have been playing that stuff when I was 18 when that song came out. LOL!

  • holy shit and i thought i was a good drumber

  • in my opinion, a good drummer knows that he's good when he fits into this order of skills:

    1. he's good at time-keeping

    2. he got a feeling for off-beats

    3. he knows about a dynamic playing

    4. he has some skills concerning snare-rolls etc.

a lot of drummer on Youtube do fool around with some crazy techniques and show everybody how unbelieveable cool they are. But if you can't concern the first three points I mentioned in your play, you're definitly are no good drummer.

  • @Gaston986

sorry what does "dinamic playin" means ?

  • that is completely totally, like, fagggggish

  • I would have such a good time being there! Yeah!

  • I think hes displays some pretty fast singles here....but thats just me

  • alright solo... hasnt got much to do with the acctuaky solo! For all thouse people who said it was an amasing solo must either knoew him or knownothing about playing the drums. You put 'Iron Butterfly' to shame

  • dude, that was a pretty good solo, you gotta emit

  • Ohne Frage: absolut geil!

  • Hammerhart genial!

  • You're right! And your solo is great, and it's your personal own solo. I don't know why you make reference to 'In A Gadda Da Vida' if you are perfoming your own solo. And your original solo is awesome!

  • It sounds like IN A GADDA DA VIDA !

  • Nothing to do with the original solo!! Have you ever listened to that classic drum solo? that was really great!! Nothing to do with In A Gadda da Vida. Not at all!

  • First of all thank you for your comment.Perhaps you should try to make it better. Not everything has to be a cover - if you ask me. This is an own and extended version of the drum solo.Of course I can do it the same way like the original, but in perpetuity it's odd and boring. If you a pro-musician you will notice that this solo is much more elaborated and complex.Have a nice evening!!

  • @explodiert You are very pro, and this solo was more elaborate. But you don't have to be a pro musician. You just need to have a good sense of music.

  • Who cares, it's even better when you do it a bit your own way. What you say really makes no sense...

  • cant even see his hands.

    fuckin amazin bro!

  • Why doesn't this guy go audition for Iron Butterfly? He's amazing!

  • Awesome Man !!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolut genial. Danke!

  • Fucking brilliant

  • TOO AWESOME!!! hats off to you bro

  • AWESOME

  • nice

  • te falta estilo chavo. Pero suena muy bien ! !

  • Keep practicing.... HAHA

  • NICE...KEEP PRACTICING...

  • Try doing Soul Sacrifice by Santana!

  • awesume

  • my band is in the process of redoing this song.

  • well done

  • Wow!! Great tribute to Iron Butterfly. Remember this solo for many years! Sehr Good. Buenísimo
