I also think it's good and worthwhile for people to have hobbies if they can. However, I also think it's a symptom of an unhealthy economy that the rich are so stratified, and that their excesses are deemed "necessary" for the economy to exist.

@miguelmouta Rich people existing isn't a problem, there are those that will naturally do better, or have more drive to amass wealth, than others. Rich people being the sole cornerstone or holders of economic wealth is. Its a large part of how tyrannies, oligarchies, etc. are formed, and why they continue to exist. Which is, of course, why it would surprise me if the USSR, China, etc. didn't have a wealthy elite. Although with fiat currencies such as is common, wealth is relative per nation.

@miguelmouta Again, I have nothing against rich people, but rather to the degree with which a given economy may be based upon the holdings of a small group or individual. "Too Big To Fail" is something often stated in the US, and at least hinted at in Europe, and it is a sign of a bad, and likely unstable, economy.

A healthy, stable economy will continue to function respectably even if many of the highest tier of the elite decide not to participate in it any longer.

That's only part of the reason though, and underlying factor. Most just don't care about boating, and consider the video to be self-indulgent, and boring. Not really sure what they were expecting though.

@miguelmouta I agree. I've only been sailing once (and not on a yacht) but it's great. Sort of like mountaineering, though different physically. Getting out into the world is something that becomes more and more difficult. If I ever get a yacht, or any other boat of my own, I'd be a deckhand (or captain, with enough experience), not just hiring others to do all the work for me.
