I want you to know that you cost me a bunch of money! I was so inspired and in awe after playing your tenor recorder videos that I had order one! It's such a beautiful, mellow sound, and you are such a pro! You make it sound both elegant and haunting. Thank you so much for posting your performances!
the echo matches fine with the winter theme, the solitude of the recorder with this effect was exactly what I was looking for to listen while watching icy winter photograpies - thank you, it was a real pleasure.
Thank you. I didn't know tenor recorders sound so nice. If you are able to play one type of recorder, are you able to play other recorders, as in using one blowing technique for all other types of recorders?
@bigfatfoot the blowing is quite similiar and also the fingering but you have to read sheet music differently when playing F- (ie. alto/bass) or C- recorders (soprano/tenor). Usually a recorder player learns to play both ways.. (so a C-/ and F- recorder)
I love the warm sound of the tenor recorder. I love your vibrato and the echo. I love the Four Seasons Winter II and I love your emotional execution. :-) I add it to my favorits.Thank you for posting.
I just bought a Moeck rondo tenor in maple. It's a beautiful instrument. I was partly inspired by your video to buy it. I traded a cheap student soprano saxophone that I hardly ever used for it.
That sounds really beautiful. If i were to take up an instrument again, this would be the one. I got to play it in primary school once and loved it! ^__^;;
oh god thank you... i tried to play the winter but somehow the notes on my recorder weren't enough, also because i tried to play the firs part of it o.ó
Well, I kinda liked the reverb. I've been just learning the tenor and now that you've shown me what one needs to sound like, I've got some work to do. Thanks.
conceptually tenor recorders need more blowing than smaller recorders...and wood recorders sound better than plastics but are more expensive...i have mine...its made of plastic....his recoder sounds better....
Now you have me watching all your videos... ahh feel like a terrible player right now, and i've even played some bits for my album LOL but for performing live I'm polishing myself and really is inspiring to listen to someone so gifted. :)
In effect, in baroque era the vibrato was preferably with fingers (cd flattement). But You blow really well, with a beatiful sound, homogenous in all tones. So your playing gives great emotions, vibrato or not :-) Bravo!
It reminds me of the times when I would put full reverb on my channel and start wailing my alto through 2 x 100 Watts of PA. That's some "Cathedral" reverb preset, right ?
I also love vibrato, however, I don't associate it with a specific era in music. But I am a rusty smoker : I cannot hold a steady note, so I use "gimmicks" to mask it.
Keep the music going on, and take care of that wonderful recorder !
One more question : what do you think of the recent Adler-Heinrich tenor recorders ?
Thanks your honesty, and I love the sheep comment, LOL!
I appreciate the classical style of recorder playing but I am not a classical musician, I'm a folk musician who plays some classical tunes. No one ever taught me to play, I've just echoed what I've heard, and somehow I play a thousand-plus songs and improvise at will. While I can play without vibrato, I sometimes just let 'er rip because it feels good. I'm not performing to meet anyone's standards except my own.
Well, as a recorder player (not professional) I'm chocked by the vibrato. Old players use to allways play with a vibrato (but a very large one), but now almost everyone agree to use vibrato only in some case, because, in the baroque music (vivaldi and other) that wasn't automatic.
But go on playing recorder is cool, while you're spreading its beautiful sound, it's OK for me...
This is my favorite piece! (Mainly because it was the first that I played along with on my alto :)) Were you playing in a stairwell? I do that all the time!
It's a beautiful piece, one of my favorites too. I was playing in my shala, a simple room with some echo, but I boosted the echo effects electronically to give it that stairwell sound. Actually for years I've played in a tunnel in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco where the echo is superb, and I wanted to replicate that sound. Some time I'll record something in that tunnel.
Absolutely beautiful. A favorite piece played on a favorite instrument. Thank you for sharing this.

Which tenor recorders do you have & what are the differences between them?
I need one that is easy for my fingers to reach & doesn't take too much breath.
Thanks!

hey man
how do u get the echoes thats pretty sick
are u playing in a special room or something
it cant be the recorder thats doing that can it?

You have a constant vibrato (which ressemble more to a sheep than to a vibrato). It doesn't fit to the recorder or to Vivaldi...
