I stumbled into trapeze videos; something I've seen very little of in my life. I'm shocked to see negative comments here. I could understand, wow that DJ was annoying, but regarding the dancing/athletics/dancer... really? That was amazing. I expected it to be awesome. What I didn't expect was for it to be so alluring.
@mira1873 I'd agree but only insofar as it lacks the spectacularity and flash of a swing trapeze. Shana gave performances like that notably during her tenure with Soleil. This is far more a performance of subtlety and emotion. I could have done without the middle hip-hop section, which was inserted as a sop to the group's DJ/soundman. It is disjointed and incongruous with the rest of the piece.
I find the rest of this piece quite beautiful to watch however.
@ChocolateFrogPrince I have to say it was the hip hop thing that didn't amaze me.Personally I prefer the less swingy aerial acts. Not just trapeze but hoop and ribbon as well. She's definitely talented though.
to my taste. i don't like it at all. BUT. i do recognize all of the enourmos amount of strength and precision it takes for those moves and as fast as she made them.I do admire her for taking a chance. maybe if the music and the dj... was a little bit more crossfade. more incorporated, I understand in the beginning to make a rough cut, although in the second cut if it was a smoother transtion I think it'd be better.
i do trapeze too =]. sometimes you have to felx your feet so u dont fall off. onetime i pointed cause i didnt like the flex and i felloff so somethimes you need to flex=]
i rally like your act i'm 14 years old and i live in holland and there i am sitting on a circusschool so i do the same things as you only a little (big) more ugly, i hope you can read this because it is only my second year that i am getting englisch i was wandering if you maybe can tall wat the number?song is called that you joest in this act. greatings pam from holland
Hiya. I love your act. The quickness of it impresses me. I love how you move from one movement to the next without ever saying 'ta-da!' If you ever want someone to work with... I really love your work! Thanks for letting us see your artistry xoxo Dawn
personally I quite like the fusion, and I though that perhaps there could be a greater difference between the style of the tricks after the change of music,
I don't usually respond on these things, but if anyone's curious... I created this piece after performing trapeze for 15 years, always the graceful, moody feminine stuff, and the theme of it this time was to establish that image and then deconstruct it. A bit of an experiment, but a fun one. Also the number was created for a show with a DJ and we were trying to incorporate his skills as much as possible into each act. Just providing a bit of context. - shana
I have always wondered what the thinking was behind it. Though never quite convinced of its success, I recognised the cut as quite a daring move, and in performance it is impossible to progress without taking such chances.
I've been working in performance for my entire adult life - a bloody sight longer than I'd care to admit these days! - and I still regard this as one of the most beautiful aerial acts I have seen.
I'm a theatre bastard and it takes alot to impress me.
Thank you for replying, your piece is no inspiring, also, is deceiving, since you make it look so soft and fairy like, but under all, each movement is very unique and strong. If you teach I would love to take classes from you, to further my studies...thank you for the piece =^_^=
@sebsoldevila shana you are amazing! I'm at circus school and when I get stressed I watch this piece and meghans hoop. Loft inspired me so much and I'm currently writing an essay about la vie. you rock :)
its nice, but i personally prefer regular ballet and regular trapeze acts. if they were interwoven in the right way, it could be amazing, but i dont really think she did that
The only place where it doesn't fully work is when the music changes. I don't think that was a good choice of transition. Other than that it's one of the best choreographed and beautifully executed aerial routines I have seen.
To be fair, I think it's a very erratic and disjointed interval. I wouldn't want to chorograph to it on the ground let alone in the air.If I'm honest I don't like that section. The larger initial section and the close are astonishing however. The music is emotive and the choreography compelling.
I do think Miss Carroll an incredibly beautiful aerialist.

AMAZING - so annoying though how the camera keeps cutting away and coming back again - totally ruins it.

She's very graceful! It's inspiring...I wonder how many years she's been doing single-point? I just started :]
it might just be me but her flexed feet kinda bug me...maybe it's just because I have a permanent ballet mindset
muffinsforkanami 2 years ago
looks like double point.....hum...
i know how you feel about the feet flex thing...
some people do it as a style choice....and then it bugs people. haha.
i think that if done right (emphasize, "right") it can look nice :)

Very often I see tapeze as just a combination of techniques, but this one was actually a lovely dance as well. It didn't feel like random tricks.

Bad synchronisation in the second part, but it may totally be because of youtube.
