hi, i want to convert clips from .wmv to .mp4 but i don't want them too large but i want them of decent quality, what are some common modes i can use? i currently have:
Video Code: x264
Frame size: 1280x720
Video Bitrate: 10000
Video Framerate:30
Encode pass: 2
How can i lower this so the files won't be sooo large when i try to import them into realplayer after i convert? any help would be appreciate . . . .
@asgeir961 Okay, then compress the video file to "uncompressed" on Adobe After Effects and download virtualdub. With virtualdub compress the video to H.264.
@fnub lol, this is a late comment, but all you have to do is to put you dvd in your computer, and open the VIDEO_TS folder from the dvd, and copy and paste the .VOB files to your computer.
@gamerfreak5665 I just tried it with the good the bad and the ugly and it wouldn't import into Adobe Premiere. I copied the VOB to my hard drive. Adobe said it couldn't open the files cuz it was under rights management. How'd you get around that?
@fnub yeah, adobe premiere has trouble with files like that. If you rename the VOB file to .mpeg, it should import. To enable file extension changing, go to folder options in the control panal, view tab, and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types." but if it doesn't import, then try using a different program: I use cyberlink powerdirector, and that does open vob's
@gamerfreak5665 ok so i FINALLY tried this technique of renaming the extension from .vob to .mpeg - too bad for me it didn't work. It allowed me to rename it, but when imported into Adobe's Pr CS5, those were somehow converted to blank wav files. Anyhow, thanx for takin the time to explain how it works. Must be nice to be one f those people where it works for them - sucks to be me ha ha ha...
@fnub I think i know what happened. Premiere thinks that mpeg is an audio file. perhaps if you name it mp2 or mpg2 it will work. But it could be a computer issue, try using a different program.

AH I see, Well I was going to use those settings for a few of my gaming vids they are 10 minutes each I might just have to reduce the audio/video bit rate slightly
Yes, deinterlaced. My videos used to play fine. Now I tried uploading a new one and lately they all play choppy (H264) or really, really low res (mpeg compression) with big blocky pixels.
really, really, really, really Thank you for saying the bps, not like "some people" would do (2 comment down...), anyway you're just great. Can I ask you for any problem? (ps I think that 1280 x 720 would be better for full-screen)
ok! thank you!! please, check this video= v=S9y34eUY_X8 I uploaded this video with this settings: H.264: 10Mbps, 30 fps, 480x360 mp4 format and it's too bad :( . I need your help!!
Well, I'm not quite sure what is wrong there, I would remind you to make sure you check the deblocking filter, and make sure that it's set to progressive, not interlaced, but i don't think that is your problem. Honestly, it sorta just looks like that the original video quality was not so good. Where did you get that, and what is the quality like on the original?
try to use a bigger resolution the 480x360 sample definitely has more block noise (pixellation). Even though the youtube playback resolution is ultimately 480x360, it seems that feeding YouTube with higher-resolution video results in higher quality playback.
btw, what is the great difference between 29.7 and 30 fps? i just cant notice any actual difference, but if u have any theory to share with me i would be glad ¬¬
Shoet answer: no difference. NTSC format uses 29.97fps which is kinda misleading because it uses interlaced fields, not frames. NTSC displays 59.94 fields per second split into alternating linesachieving 29.97. The reason is complicated and has to do with the way the less advanced equipment they used in the fifties when they set the standard. But for all intents and purposes, 29.97fps. is interchangeable with 30fps
Mpeg4 is a container for information, much like avi, H.264 is a codec, which would correspond to the xvid part. I personally like H.264 over xvid because to me is tends to render a little cleaner, and compresses a bit smaller.
i get that bright look with many codecs, u can lower the brightness in wmp and it looks almost normal. also when post on web sites the brightness thing seems to be gone
Previously that would have been true, but with the new processing system youtube uses, it's best to start out with the highest quality you can. But yes, technically all you need is 400KBps and 480x360 to get the "watch in high quality" option to appear.
I personally use Sony Vegas Pro software, but any progran will do this if it has the capability to encode H.264. Just use a high bitrate, and at least 640x480 resolution.
The format I prefer is the MP4 format using the AVC/H.264 video codec. I think that it provides the best quality/file size combo. As for the bitrate, I use a variable bitrate with an average of 1.5Mbps and a max of 3.0Mbps. You're probably thinking audio with the 192Kbps bitrate, because that would not be nice to watch. Best advice is variable bitrate of at least 1.5 Mbps, use the best video you can start with, and use a resolution of at least 480x360. Let me know if you have any more questions.
I should clarify what I said. 192 Kbps video would be watchable at lower resolution, and on a small screen. Like a iPhone, PSP, even youtube, if it wasn't watched fullscreen. A lower bitrate, lower resolution video will actually look better in standard quality and small window. If you watch my video like that it isn't very nice. Thats due to an effect called aliasing. Taking a high quality signal or image, and shrinking it. So my videos look poor in standard quality, but quite good in high.
i hate ppl wHAT STill use divx and xvid
