  • that's the only poster i've ever bought. Hendrix baby!

  • Hey....fabulous spacious tones...very Eric Johnson

  • any pops when You switch beetwen loops?

  • THE SOUNDS ON THIS IS SOOOOOOOO COOOOLL

  • @KazysBobelis Dude!

  • caaaanaaadaaaa moccasins

  • Ha Joke

  • Hi, could you please recommend pedals to buy for Eric Johnsons lead tone. I have a Vox AC15 (not ideal i know) and i got a Boss DD-3. Thanks. :)

  • @mexistratman1 Check out the Voodoo Lab Giggity

  • @mexistratman1 I'd also suggest his signature fuzz face and the B.K. Butler tubedriver w/ bias mod.

  • why not use a multi effects processor like GT10 or above?

  • @menfinnar Now what fun would that be?

  • @HigherLandrons sure man :) i get your point :D

  • @menfinnar Because to most people, myself included, stompboxes sound a lot better. Plus, you can't exchange the parts of a multi-fx. This is just like having a regular pedalboard, but keeps you from having to do the "pedalboard dance."

  • @menfinnar the gt10 is digital, with the gigrig you can use analog pedals.

  • Any other fender amp you could recommend other than the Twin assuming smaller venues and home use? Deluxe Reverb maybe?

    Thanks,

    LC.

  • @lfrc2006 Which tone are you after?

  • @HigherLandrons Hi, it's basically the Eric Johnson clean tones. I find the Twin a bit big for smaller venues and home use.

    Thanks,

    LC.

  • @lfrc2006 I think the most essential part is the chorus in stereo. Two small, Fender-style amps, a warm chorus pedal, and something to emulate tape style delays and you're there.

  • Great tone man extremely cool stuff! BUT..... I gotta say I'm a 10 year professional session guitarist that often has fly dates and tours both nationally and around town. And as cool as all this stuff is how in the hell would you ever leave your house with any of this gear? I'd love to see you take that board with that quickly wired up job and put I under a plane or even in a cartage facility that is going to be thrown around! And expect to show up to your gig with something that will funct

  • @GuitarStarAcademy One might think a professional session guitarist would find it silly bringing every single piece of gear I own on tour. On the road, the gear selected is dependent on the song's needs. For functionality, it's called a roadcase, and typically in my experiences, a single amp. As stated in numerous comments below and as evidenced in in other videos on the channel, the rig (minus the Twin and Echoplexes) gigs numerous times weekly and can be set up in about ten minutes.

  • I wish you could do more indepth tone explanations. Maybe isolate just what is making that sound. Like take everything out then add each sounds back in steps I just want that sound hehehehe

  • I must say I love the first tone. The clean sound is so great is it the ECHOPLEX that is making it so Eric J. ?

  • cool rig! but you said that one tone was good for country? It has too much echo. Country has a slapback and compression maybe a little dirt too thanks

  • @Bflatest I said the *compressor* was cool for country. Obviously when playing traditional country or fingerstyle, the tone isn't drenched in echo.

  • which pixel is the gig rig? haha bad joke. Nice shit dude.

  • Bren, Thx for the reply...I did demo the h2o but it just didnt do it for me.. as luck would have it the music store had a used mint BK butler tube driver, got it for just under 200 bucks...Not bad for my first pedal....Hmmm what to get next, Im thinking maybe a delay or echo pedal. Any thoughts ? My gear list so far.. American Tele and a Strat with a Mesa Mark V amp and the Bk tube Driver....Jack...

  • Dude your playing is great and good gear rundown. Couple ?'s. I want to get an axe fx and use in combo with a standard amp pedal setup. Can the gig rig run all that in combo with the axe fx. 2nd my name is tim. where did you get the tim pedal/

  • @tas9195 Thanks for saying, Tim. The GigRig + AxeFx combo would be pretty amazing. Ensure that you get a GigRig with midi capability and you could go bonkers having the GR control pedals and switch patches on the Axe simultaneously. The Tim pedal is made by a guy named Paul Cochrane. There's a waiting list for them, so see if you can find one used. Hope that helps. -B.

  • @HigherLandrons Thanks for the reply, Have you done any covers of Desert Rose or Emerald eyes. Would love to see you play those and see how fingerings would look for them. Great job again.

  • @tas9195 Lots of other stuff filmed from gigs. Will edit and post more soon. Thanks again.

  • Hello fellow Canadian guitar picker! Great tone you have gon' on there, very nice setup...great playing too. The FoxRox sounds killer.

What settings are you using on the T.C. Chorus?

  • @Twanger73 Howdy, dude. Mighty kind of you to say. The SCF is set to speed 1.5, width 2, and intensity is just shy of 4.

  • Crap man, how does that Strat sound without all that verb and delay? I bet it's tasty, I used to be into having a bunch of delay and verb but I suppose it has to do with your style. Anyway, how the hell do you gig with that? Do you plan on taking that monstrocity out of the house, I think you would need some great cable managment. Check out the pedaltrain pro when you get a chance....

  • @SpinGoldmusic It leaves the house and gigs numerous times weekly.

  • @HigherLandrons Keep it rockin' !!!

  • actually like the norad joke...

  • @bosscollector Me too.

  • too bad, man.

Did you replace it with anything? By the way... your rig is sick! I wish I had the cash to get that gigrig.

  • @HigherLandrons ...Thanks Bren, Im going shopping this weekend for some gear and no doubt ill probably have a few more questions..... Have you ever used the Visual Sounds H2O pedal? Seen some mixed reviews here, and wondered what you thought...Jack

  • @Jackfurry1 I had that one before the SCF. It was noisy and not a keeper, imo.

  • Bren, Thanks so very much, it obvious you spent some time researching the EJ tones...1 more question and I promise Ill never bother you again..; ) Your using your MXR 1500 for that hold or freeze effect in the video. Could you sub it out with a Electro Harmonix freeze pedal or some other pedal you think might work..." Ill be watching for that new demo video"..... Thanks Again - Jack

  • Great video and I learned allot from it, Thank you.. Question; I play a little EJ but I dont want all that equipment to get that tone. If I bought a TC Chorus and the Strymon or a Wampler Echo delay pedal would I come close to that tone? Would I need additional pedals? Any suggestion on a simple setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jack

  • @Jackfurry1 Thanks, Jack. You can definitely get 'purty close with a tape-emulating delay and some chorus. I'm not particularly fond on the TC in mono, so if you're planning on using only one amp for your clean tone, I would check out an alternative, like maybe the Voodoo Lab box. When I first replaced my 'plexes, the Wampler was what I used for a year or so. The touch-sensitive modulation started to wear on me after a while so I tried the Strymon and haven't looked back. Hope that helps. ~Bren

  • Hi love you 3 amp setup, but i thought you were only able to switch between 2 amps?

Can you use other power supplies than gigrig ?

sorry for my broken english! Cheers!

  • is the fuchs suppose to be dumble esque? u didnt explain what exactly you use that amp for and do u run the bk butler through both marshall and fuchs?

  • @studiobuddy That was the initial idea for the Fuchs, but this video didn't really convey that. I've since dumped the Twin and running the TDS a lot hotter to get closer to that sound. The TD hits the Marshall exclusively.

  • what are ur settings for the clean sound.? what type of reverb are u using? and whats the settings on the TC Chorus.. great tone..

  • Hey man nice sound by the way! what type of reverb are you using?

  • @ragnarok11223344 Thanks! In this video it's the Demeter Reverbulator, but I've since switched to the WET reverb by Neunaber.

  • I love your sound man! I have been trying to get Eric Johnson's sound for a long time, but have not come close to what you have done. It's pretty incredible! I was wondering if you could help me, I'm trying to create the improv that Eric Johnson does, with the two delays. One rings out, and he plays on top of it with another delay. Im not sure how to do this, and I can see that you can. I have the boss dd-20 and the el capistan, do you use a hold pedal, or can these be done with these delays.

  • @ragnarok11223344 Thanks for the kind sentiment. I use the 1500 for that purpose, as I was kinda on a completist bender with EJ's rig a while back. You don't need to track one of those down, though. The Line 6 DL4 is great for the static chord effect, and from what I understand, EHX released a pedal called, "the Freeze" for that sole purpose. I'm not familiar with the dd-20, but all you need is a very short hold effect, so any delay with a looping function should suffice. Good luck!

  • @HigherLandrons I see that you use an echoplex. is it a tube echoplex or solid state? Where did you find yours, could it be possible to just find one on ebay and get it repaired, and would you know where to get a tape for one? thanks man! your set up is really sweet! and thanks for getting back to me!

  • @ragnarok11223344 If you have have an El Capistan you're golden. That thing sounds terrific and there's no inherent headache of dealing with tape's bullsh*t. If you rrrreally want to mimic the EP-3's "pixie dust," maybe think about coupling that with one of the few pedals on the market that aim to reproduce the coveted preamp section of that particular model Echoplex, ie -ClinchFX Ep-pre, Badgerplex PRE, Xotic EP-booster, etc.

  • it's impressive how elaborate your set up is but.... it must suck moving all that around.

unhooking everything would be like defusing an atomic bomb.

  • @dgester Not really. I can tear down or set up in about ten minutes.

  • @HigherLandrons even more impressive. great vid btw

  • also.....are you Canadian?

  • "Eliminates the need for tap dancing"...hmmm. That looks like a bit more buttons than there are pedals. haha

  • @tylerdwells The only buttons used are those on the GigRig. It functions as a master controller for all the pedals, turning multiple on or off with only one tap, or sending the signal to one or all amplifiers. Using all these pedals without a loop-switcher would be a nightmare.

  • correct me if i'm wrong but the maj7#11 chord you held with the delay pedal? you said mxr but it looks like a head rush by akai. very much like oz noy ever heard of him? nice voicings too, how the hell do you incorporate those harmonics so smooth into your playing I need that, absolutley love that sound! A response would be most appriciated

  • @riles6789 Nope, just the MXR. Practice makes... well, let's just say practice makes. Thanks, man.

  • I do like your mocasins...

I would set it up differently, but I am jealous of your gear.

  • Hey, what year is your Twin? I have a 73 and I love it!

  • your setup is kinda like Eric johnson nice tone man!

  • Looks like a master built strat?

  • @sportsportsport Yeppers, that was the '54.

  • Man, what is the twin setup?? Greetings!!

  • you play like Eric Johnson and look like Ryan Renolds :P you are a God haha :D

  • @danboyguitar94 Wow, that's a stretch. : ) But thanks.

  • do you ever gig?

  • @130db Yep.

  • @HigherLandrons It is great setup but i doubt it ever leaved your room...unless you have guitar tech on paycheck that set your gear day before the gig.

just wanted to say that you are very enthusiastic :-)

  • @130db You can doubt all you want, but it left the room at least once a week for two years straight when it was that size. I had a very nice drummer who helped me lug it all to the Hideout downtown Toronto.

  • Please make a demo of the arbiter fuzz face. I would love to hear it or more of it.

  • @phatsound1 My set-up has changed quite a bit since this demo. New vids soon.

  • Awesome demo. I just bought a GigRig and Pedal Train Pro and couldn't be happier. Your demo really helped me make an easy decision!

  • @mazsenior thanks. Hope you enjoy it!

  • I was wondering is your main income from playing guitar ..gig's.I have resently picked up the guitar again after 20-30 year hiatus..and been buying gear again but I'm wondering how to justify something like your gigrig. any advise? thinks for the demo..

  • @djematrix yeppers, I just play the guitar. As per making a purchase, I'm of the opinion that provided the bills are paid, anything that inspires you to play more can't be a bad thing.

  • how much did that gigrig thing cost?

  • @tommorellorules Gig rigs are like 800-1500 i believe.

  • wicked nice tone, but there doesnt need yo be delay and a wash of reverb on every tone

  • @riles6789 To each his own.

  • Its quite scary how well you impersonate EJ at times.

  • That must have cost so much! And I thought I had a lot of gear!

  • 3:14 Have to have the Moccasins when you live in Canuckastan! lol :)

  • good joke :) some people dont get that kinda humor. the humor came from admiting the bad joke hehe

  • Beautifull rig m8 , but how do you carry every thing to shows ?

  • Believe it or not, after two years of tearing down/setting up at the bar weekly, I could have all this crap from the car to fired up in twenty-five minutes.

  • haha nice , does it all fit in your car ?

3 amps , full pedal board .... thats alot of equipment :) (I want your rig lol)

  • Can you switch your amp chanels via midi with it?

  • You can. It has has two 1/4-inch outs and every individual patch can be configured to swicth one or both.

  • What's the signature tattoo off? Just curoius

  • Jimi and EJ.

  • Really cool. Love your style and you clearly have a strong knowledge of your tools.

  • Thanks, mang.

  • Great demo, well done.

    Funny guy!!

    LOL

    Eugen

  • "sometimes in functions as Norad, sometimes I use it to play guitar... bad joke" Hilarious! And you're setup and play is sweet. Keep it up Brendan!

  • I envy you man.

  • such tasty i think i just shat myself from the awesome of sonic from this video!

  • Jeepers! Thanks, man. Means a lot.

  • WHAT CABLES DO YOU USE?

  • They're George L's.

  • THANKS. GREAT TONE BY THE WAY

  • Thanks to you too. Muchos appreciated, : )

  • Hi there , can you please tell us what pickups are you using . thanks.

  • Not too sure. The guitar in this vid was that limited run '54 that Fender produced a few years back. I believe they're the A.B. hand-wound '54's...

  • Mate, your clean tone! Eric Johnson or what? Fantastic tones, fantastic riffs, man, I might be one of those Group A people, the one that steals it haha!

    Loving the Fuchs.

  • Thanks, mang. : )

  • Great gear !

  • Wow, you've got some SERIOUSLY good gear! how do you handle volume issues when playing live? I'd imagine cranking those amps up would rattle some teeth.

  • Gracias, brosef. The back-line can definitely rattle some bowels. : )

  • yep. can't argue there.

  • All great sounds. Carrying this whole rig on gigs must be a real pain though?

  • what is the keeley pedal your using/?

  • A compressor.

  • It takes talent to create these sound, you definitely have it! also great riffs!!!

  • Thanks!

  • what MXR pedal did you hit for that "hold" effect?!? I've been trying to figure out what the heck ej uses to do that?

  • I use the 1500. You can approximate the effect with something as simple as a Line 6 DL4, though.

  • digitech also used to make digital delays in the 'PDS' series that had an 'echo hold' switch built in, and they are pretty cheap on craigslist. beats hunting down some of the old giant rackmount things haha.

  • oh christ you've got the 1500 and the flanger/doubler - as if i couldn't be anymore jealous :(

  • thats a pretty sick rig. what is the tim for? and how many pedals go into your gig rig? your eric johnson sound is great!

  • Thanks, man. The Tim is a killer overdrive that doesn't colour your signal. They're pricey, and me thinks there is a waiting list, but you should check it out!

  • thats really cool. that is such an awesome rig there! do you only gig around canada or do you ever come down in the americas? This rig reminds me a LOT of eric johnsons! :) is that fuzz face one of the older ones? because I have one of the newer Dallas Arbiters and I dislike it mightily. haha

  • Hey man can your make a review on the RVB-1 Reverbulator, I'm really interested on picking one up.

  • Oh man- awesome...sick set up. Have you heard of Chris Walker? He can play Eric's stuff to a T, but doesn't have the set up that you have going.

  • No! Never heard of him? Got a link?!

  • Bren,

Thanks a million for what your doing here!!

  • How do you like that Demeter Verbulator? I've been looking at one of those for a while but can't find any footage anywhere that shows it.

  • It sounds terrific, but the build quality inside is a little questionable. The springs are connected to the interior of the casing via tiny, shoddy clips. Other than that, it's great.

  • Thanks! It sounds pretty decent on the vid, but it seems a bit too much. It's probably the mic on your camera messing with the sound. I'll probably end up getting one eventually. Thanks!

  • Yeah, I noticed afterward it sounded like it was set pretty dang heavily. : ( I don't think it's just the compression on the camera, it was my boo-boo.

  • Well, far be it to scrutinize someone who's cool enough to give me a small sample of a pedal I'm interested in. Thanks so much, sir. Oh, and killer tone and chops, too. I live in Austin and I've seen EJ a couple million times now, it's pretty clear to me that you know what's going on. Keep it up!

  • Check out some of the new vids? The sound is mic'd a lot better and is probably better representational of what the box is capable of. : )

  • I actually bought one based off of this demo, I figured if it could get nice and wet like you have it set, it can probably do other settings as well. Thanks so much for your vids, sir!

  • wow nice gear!

  • Nope. Not at all, mang.

  • then how do you manage to drive that amp without being super loud?

  • tinnitus. : )

  • The Marshall is attenuated, right?

  • as i jump around "I got moccasins on, awesome" lol

  • "canada, moccassins". lol.

  • dude i read somewhere in an interview to eric johnson, that he roll down the bridge pickup tone to 0, and has his neck pickup tone in 10, so that's the way he fattens the tone in the bridge position. is that true? do u do the same way that he does?

cheers great tone by the way!

  • You're out of your mind!! Great sounds.
