It's interesting. Susan Boyle is a true alto. There really aren't many of those out there, and it explains her trouble with the upper head voice. That said, her vocal "bridge" is incredibly high, considering the places where the breaks occur.

You need not a translator from or for any language to understand that her voice is absolutely astounding. You need not a machine to determine how this lovely woman sings, its something ancient and yet understood rarely in modern perspective. For that Susan, you gain my love and respect.

yeah, she was very nervous, it was evident from the first notes she took. i can imagine that!!! a woman from a village performing on big stage and gaining popularity so quickly, that must be overwhelming!! she is indeed a great singer with very good vocals and pleasant voice.

She did however have a very public affair a few years ago with a well known UK actor and caused her then husband (another UK actor) very great embarrassment for many months. They got back together for a short while, but it virtually killed his tv career while it boosted hers.
It was quite a nasty thing for her to do so publicly .
However, after her recent tragic loss her affair pales into insignificance.

I love watching Amanda's reaction during the performance. It's like she is right there with Susan, taking in every single note, every gesture, and celebrating Susan's triumph of an excellent performance. To think, this woman got up in front of the cameras and all those people and an entire country (and the world) to compete in a talent show. That's pretty amazing. I don't think I could do it. She must be very confident in her abilities. I absolutely adore her!
When she hits the high note and really belts it out at 3:21, it sends shivers up my spine every time I watch it. Such an amazing, rich powerful voice. I'm so happy for her!
What people seem to forget is that Susan Boyle "lost" because this competition is not about who is best, but who gets the most votes. The program is also geared to a young crowd, AND these are completely different artists who can't can't be compared.
Diversity obviously had a huge fan group in the theater, so I'm glad Susan did not win; she would have been booed as much as Diversity was cheered. What was best for this marvelous woman is what happened. Good luck to Diversity as well.

When comparing this performance to Elaine Page, keep in mind that this is Susan's 2nd stage performance in a talent contest, whilst Elaine is a veteran of thousands of professional stage performances... Susan paid homage to one of her inspirations, and it was wonderful to hear.

Somehow I don't like this version of Susan Boyle (in terms of persona). She's been told by the producers of the show and her friends as to how she should act on the stage, and to answer diplomatically. Its obvious because anyone who observed her in his first mind-blowing audition can make out how natural she was in it and how artificial her behaviour and responses are in this one. While its good to be more professional in the subsequent stages, it shouldn't be so obvious. I like her original!
Susan overcame that nervous beginning note with aplomb and went forth to sing "Memory" with splendour and passion! I never tire of hearing and watching Susan's performances! Each is "perfection personified" to me! Nancy, Charlotte, NC, USA

She was really nervous, and not at her best here but still once she started singing she started to feel it and lose her fear and live the song. It was very tough for her to take such a great leap... She pusher her limits .. she knew she could have done better but she was still GREAT!

susan should have won this competition but in the beginning of the song she didnt get the top of the song right when she had to find that push in the song but then she did found it and she amazed me but she was nervous and thats why she lost. She said that she wasnt nervous but she was and all the pressure of the paparazi and the news in her house bothering her.
She didn't win the contest but she is a winner. 10,000,000 albums sold already! She is now worth millions but is still as sweet and endearing as before her fame. And she did all of this in under a year! Love her!
@LoskoolXD They are a good dance act - in fact they've recently starred in a 3D dance movie. There are probably a lot of similar acts in the USA, but in the UK they stood out as being quite original at the time.
I also feel people got fed up with all the hype surrounding SuBo and thought she was bound to win, so didn't bother to vote.
@LoskoolXD she had a bit of a mistake in the start when she couldnt get the top of the song right and she had to find that push to sing and she at least found it.
The beauty about the whole show was firstly she got a shot to sing, then live the dream right through to the Finals and now beyond that, look at her now, the places she has been and seen, the people she has met beyond her small cottage.
She WON, maybe not the comp my friend but she WON.:))
@LoskoolXD Diversity beat Susan because BGT is not about who is "best", but who gets the most votes. BGT is targeted at a much younger demographic than Susan's generation; though countless millions of that younger group obviously know a treasure when they see it. The whole idea of BGT is ridiculous in terms of comparison between acts. They are all different. Diversity did not attempt to make musical history, and Susan Boyle did not attempt a back flip in a Superman cape. Just enjoy all.
My comments about Amanda's spirit remain unchanged. Having a beautiful soul does not mean one does not make bad choices; the "free choice" is a bummer to us all. I am certain Amanda did not intend to cause harm. She is human, she made a choice, it was publicized because she is in the public eye,and people got hurt. That was not intentional. At the end of life, we will not be judged by our mistakes but by the love we gave people and animals and the Earth; that's my hope and I'm sticking to it.

When comparing this performance to Elaine Page, keep in mind that this is Susan's 2nd stage performance in a talent contest, whilst Elaine is a veteran of thousands of professional stage performances... Susan paid homage to one of her inspirations, and it was wonderful to hear.

No, I'm sorry... Once your hear Elaine Paige singing this, there really is no going back. Nice voice, great song, mediochre singer... Great singers do not show the nerves of performing in frot of millions, that's the little thing that makes them great... BTW, I'm Scottish...

I admire her guts and determination to carry on despite little support from the ones that should've been there for her. When she messed up, she kept on singing and carried on valiantly! Bravo Susan!

Somehow I don't like this version of Susan Boyle (in terms of persona). She's been told by the producers of the show and her friends as to how she should act on the stage, and to answer diplomatically. Its obvious because anyone who observed her in his first mind-blowing audition can make out how natural she was in it and how artificial her behaviour and responses are in this one. While its good to be more professional in the subsequent stages, it shouldn't be so obvious. I like her original!

She was really nervous, and not at her best here but still once she started singing she started to feel it and lose her fear and live the song. It was very tough for her to take such a great leap... She pusher her limits .. she knew she could have done better but she was still GREAT!

susan should have won this competition but in the beginning of the song she didnt get the top of the song right when she had to find that push in the song but then she did found it and she amazed me but she was nervous and thats why she lost. She said that she wasnt nervous but she was and all the pressure of the paparazi and the news in her house bothering her.

She didn't win the contest but she is a winner. 10,000,000 albums sold already! She is now worth millions but is still as sweet and endearing as before her fame. And she did all of this in under a year! Love her!

@LoskoolXD They are a good dance act - in fact they've recently starred in a 3D dance movie. There are probably a lot of similar acts in the USA, but in the UK they stood out as being quite original at the time.
I also feel people got fed up with all the hype surrounding SuBo and thought she was bound to win, so didn't bother to vote.

The beauty about the whole show was firstly she got a shot to sing, then live the dream right through to the Finals and now beyond that, look at her now, the places she has been and seen, the people she has met beyond her small cottage.

@LoskoolXD Diversity beat Susan because BGT is not about who is "best", but who gets the most votes. BGT is targeted at a much younger demographic than Susan's generation; though countless millions of that younger group obviously know a treasure when they see it. The whole idea of BGT is ridiculous in terms of comparison between acts. They are all different. Diversity did not attempt to make musical history, and Susan Boyle did not attempt a back flip in a Superman cape. Just enjoy all.

My comments about Amanda's spirit remain unchanged. Having a beautiful soul does not mean one does not make bad choices; the "free choice" is a bummer to us all. I am certain Amanda did not intend to cause harm. She is human, she made a choice, it was publicized because she is in the public eye,and people got hurt. That was not intentional. At the end of life, we will not be judged by our mistakes but by the love we gave people and animals and the Earth; that's my hope and I'm sticking to it.
