Victor's solo is clearly exquisite. BUT, so is Leroi's. The way he starts his solo grabs your attention right away. He even does a graceful pause as the crowd applauds Boyd. What a guy!
@MysticDMBherb There's one live version of #41 and Sojourn with all of Bela and the Flecktones that I had an MP3 of, and it is the best song I've ever heard. Computer crashed, lost the mp3. Haven't been able to ever find it or what it was. It's my unicorn. Got any clues?
@flymarvin Don't get me wrong - Stefan (not Stephon) is a great bass player, but there's no denying that Victor Wooten is an unbelievable musician. I've never seen another bass player that can solo like he can
Jeff and Leroi are just different. Its a matter of taste to say which is better. With that said I think Leroi was able to say much more with playing much less.
Leroi hated this song. I don't know why. It's still one of my favorites.. With all of that said, I can't lie.. Jeff Coffin is better with the brass than he was. RIP Roi'
@chillguitardude10 No. Dave wrote it. If you watch "Storytellers" he clearly said that he hated it. I couldn't believe when I heard him say that. Lol. He always played it like he loved it..
@xMDP78x Ya, Jeff may be the better technical sax player, but Roi could fucking play. Jeff's solos can be a little over the top and too out there. This band was at its best last 90s to early 2000s when they had Butch and Roi, they had that smooth jazz sound and Roi could play like no other. Everything he did with a sax was gold, and he will always be my favorite saxophonist. I've never heard one person be able to say so much through their instrument without any words.
Wooten stole the show. That bass solo will forever be ingrained in my mind as one of the greatest solos of all time by anyone. Wooten is truly the epitome of all bass players and it's sad that he's so unappreciated in mainstream music since NO ONE knows who he is but he really is amazing. I wish he got more recognition since he's probably the most famous bass player of our time.
i understand we all dont like the same stuff...BUT WHO COULD VOTE DONT LIKE TO THIS VID!! I MEAN.......no words....i really thank these guys got together to make a band......THANKS FROM THE ASS OF THE WORLD!!!
Boyd is still my favorite, but wooten is sick, and moore as always kills it. great musicians. i miss this music, now its all crap, with a few exception, bit nothing compares to DMB
@alstocko Victor uses the method of sliding off 'bad' notes to teach musicians to open their ears. Im sure he VERY rarely has to worry about that himself, he just plays what he hears.
The opening line of Victor's solo melts my face off. Every time I hear it I involuntarily go limp until his closing line, which is like waking up from a good dream.
@deimantegera and Ceades09, what the hell are you talking about, dmb is awsome and one of the only bands that actually can express pain, heartbreak, and many other emotions perfectly in their music.

Harbec 1 year ago
@Harbec He doesn't play it by scales. Wooten plays any note and if it doesn't fit he slides it up/down a semitone so it fits.
It's his philosophy rather than worry about what notes are "right"

@alstocko Victor uses the method of sliding off 'bad' notes to teach musicians to open their ears. Im sure he VERY rarely has to worry about that himself, he just plays what he hears.
