  • Magnífica interpretación, muchas gracias por compartirla.

  • Great music!!!! Great talent!!! but why is she in a french maid costume....

  • Sarasate is my one of my favorite composer. Sarasate plus Sarah Chang make this piece fantastic

  • OMG !!! -3- i love her!

  • a pleasure to listen to.

  • Now this is music.

  • Sara Chang: putting the katy perry's of the world to shame since she was 10!

  • @nebechadnezzar64

i'm sure KP doesn't really care.

  • @nebechadnezzar64

Yes its a crazy world where those of so little real talent are given so much acclaim. In the case of girls it sometimes just depends on a gimmick and good looks, eg Cheryl Cole, or to be just drunk, crazy and outrageous like Tracey Emin !!

  • The look of pure jealously on that kid @ 3:50 to the far right...

  • 6:23 yeah take that whitties Asian with a capital A owns you all

  • I cried

  • She played the Mendelssonh Violin Concerto with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 15

  • she plays sooo naturally!!

  • The harmonics from 2:28 kill me... WOW!!!

  • asiane madar qahbe, Sarasate european bude

  • Yo creo que ahí está poseida por el mismísimo Sarasate

  • Lol the audience is all like: :-O

They're blank and unable to comprehend the sheer skill of this violinist. :D

  • I think Sarah was about 10 here and already here she shows that she has passed the standard that most adults who play the violin will ever achieve !!

  • my jaws fell to the ground

  • @OtakuDoki You have more than 1 jaw? Just kidding lol mine did too, this girl is amazing.

  • @nebechadnezzar64 it was so spectacular that jaws just kept dropping..mythically in a sense

  • Sometimes angels come to earth !!!

  • I like the seriousness of carmen in the beginning, then it started becoming playful halffway :D

  • thumbs up if you think the young sarah chang is better than the current sarah chang

  • It's interesting to hear how her interpretation of the piece has changed from this to her recent concert with Berlin Philharmonic. Both are beautiful, but completely different.

  • wtf these famous violinists were all beasts wen they were little...

  • why every ppl wearing humongous glasses??

  • weird she seems to have gotten worse as she got older

  • @violingirl33 I believe she is around 12 or 13 then. This was the first CD she produced with the Sarasate and Elgar.

  • how old ist she in this video?

  • She is 29 now, but then I don't know.

  • At this video she is 10.

  • absolutly the best sounds ive ever heard the harmonics, and style, sarah chang is

obviously the perfect angel from Heaven and came to bless us with her brilliant and perfect violin playing

  • No one but no one plays Sarasates Carmen Fantasy as well as Miss Sarah Chang !!

  • Sarah Chang ,the finest classical Violinist in the world, bar none !!

  • uau u really don t know nothing about the violin...

  • @jasonform

So you know better than The famous Yehudi Menuhin then ?

Are you a world famous artist yourself then ?

Well perhaps we can all see you on youtube performing soon then ,perhaps when you get back from your ''World Tours ''!!

  • Wonderful !thankyou you tube

  • flawless

  • the audience are seduced by her magic

  • at 3:50 look at that girl's mouth maybe she was so surprised =)

  • wow... 2:27 those harmonics were absolutely perfect O.o

and such an amazing interpreter at that age! wow she is inmortal hahah :P

  • Amazing ;D

  • pure genius ,how lucky we are to be able to watch these fine artists on youtube !!

  • @lovemetu she's a gifted child. She was born to be a musician

  • @lovemetu well said mate!!

  • @BlueMoonLightDreams

Thanks for your comment .I had a look at your channel, you seem to be like me in having a liking of oriental culture,I am interested in your love of Taiwan, not a country I have a great knowledge of .Have you been there or any other asian countries?

Lastly have you seen the young sarah chang playing Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, needless to say she is fantastic, available on youtube of course.

    Best Wishes,Lovemetu

  • @lovemetu yeah i have seen a few video of her when she was young hehe, i am sort of a fan if i knew her i would do anything to have her interest in me hahaha

and no i have not been in asia though this october i might travel to china, taiwan, and thailand, but not sure yet, since i was 17 i felt sort of connected with asian culture, its weird because in no way i am asian, i did date some asian girls, but maybe its because of that, i have many asian friends, and for some reason we always connect.

  • @lovemetu when i was in school asian kids were the ppl i use to get alone so easy with, with my race i would very little since for some reason we always argued, and american the same, always end up having fights or arguments.

  • omg how old is she here?

  • GODDESS!

  • amazing!!!

i think she was better when she was younger though...

    seriously a PRODIGY

  • I agree. There is a purity in her sound as a youth. Still, I guess artists need to "branch out"

At least we can re-listen to this recording, over and over again =P it's absolutely beautiful

  • Its not perfect, but still its unbelievable that only a 10 year old girl can play this piece! Thats about when u learn the multiplication facts in school ;)

  • GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • perfect sarah chang, wow!

  • The audience is amazed. No wonder...

  • Bravo Sarah !!!

  • she's a prodigy...

  • To say there is no God in Heaven is to reject the beauty of what we see and hear on this video!

  • Comment removed

  • Just lovely

  • the thing is, that we all know there is a big difference between just "being able to play it" and truly "making music"

  • @caricama do you think that Sarah Chang didn't make music over there?

  • The brown-haired boy at 3:48 looks like he's falling in love :)

  • agreed...and plus have you or I ever heard of this girl!? no!!

    Sarah :) = Awesome

  • Comment removed

  • to play a piece as difficult as this at 10 is just outrageous. and perfectly.. you can't learn this, you're born with it

  • well when it comes to sarah chang yes you can... haahah! she began this when she was 8 or 9 and she started playing at 4.. i cant believe she got in to juliard playing bruch's concerto no. 1 at 6!!

  • i think sarah chang is the best female violinist ever! I too play violin and have for 5 years and i believe i will never be as good as her

  • yes, shes very good but its a bit early for you to say that if youve only been playing for 5 years

  • this is breathtaking. This is a 10... a 10... year old playing carmen as if she has been experienced for 15 years. and god you should hear her interpretation of fire and ice as she is grown and more emotionally expressive. No one can compare to sarah changs version of this, and in general

  • i can on tuesday

  • This is amazing and brilliant and everything, but her playing hasn't changed at all. I don't believe in a perfect violinist (except heifetz), but that is just peculiar

  • at like 1:06 or 1:07 there's that plucking and I can never hear that, and in the music it doesn't say to play it really quiet, and it almost bother me not able to hear that pluck

  • its hard to hear the pluck because of the piano and its done with the left hand so its hard to make it loud because you have to hold down the note and pluck with the next finger

  • @CMDmusic

At 1:06/1:07, I'm 100% sure that's right-hand pizz, not left hand. I've always used right-hand pizz myself, and everyone else I've heard do the same thing. You seriously use left-hand pizz?

  • Yeah. I believe in reincarnation.

    Defininately!

  • According my search, Srahra Chang was born in Dec. 1980 at Philadelphia, father is a violinest, mother is a composer, learned violin from her dad @ age of 4, while attended the grade school she study at Juiliard school, the recital must done @ 9, because she cut the first album(EMI) at 10 in 1991. Study her music through Itzhak Perman, Kyo Kang.... she currently play the 1717 Guarneri which she purchased in her teens, 1992 debut played Sarasate & Paganini at age of 11, the violin was a loaner.

  • yup all of this is right, i research about her too, and got the same information

  • Dont mean to be an asshole but therealmasterpilot, I think thats an mazing sound for any age. I know kids who practice hours a day and are not nearly as good as her. But yeah she is god for her age i guess!!!!

  • Holy crap. She was one amazing little kid.Amazing tone quality for that age.

  • Isaac Stern, eat your heart out.

  • seems she was born a perfect violonist ! was perfect from the beginning !!

  • not sure... but i do know for sure that the first time she performed this piece, she was 10 years old..

  • Does anyone know how old she was when she performed this? Knowing how old she was would only make the performance all the more spectacular. I love her interpretations, and she always includes a lot of feeling and musicality into the piece. And STILL she can play these pieces like they are child's play. Another amazing video, Sarah Chang!!! And thanks for posting!

  • I think 8 years old.

  • i went to check out gil shaham's version, and i still prefer sarah's; and not because i had seen this first. gil is a good musician, but it's just when i hear her play, i can see the story of carmen behind it.

  • BRAVO!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • EXQUSITO!

  • Muchisimas gracias por compartir algo tan hermoso.Aclaro que la obra es de Bizet, y supongo que el arreglo serà de Pablo Sarasate.¿no?

    Juan de Argentina

  • I listened her Mendelhson in Ravinia.. she was so truly wonderful!

  • I like to hear how Hilary Hahn would play this. I'm sure it would be technically perfect and beautiful.

  • gil shaham plays it perfectly

  • She rips her violin to shreds and then she comforts it only to tear it to shreds again...

    Beautiful playing!

  • That little girl smart and play so good--she cute too

  • I think she plays its better than gil shaham, but its all about personal preference...

  • I couldn't agree more. Her performance was just as great. I prefer Gil Shaham's performance though, something about his playing really moved me. Technically though, they are both wonderful musicians.

  • YEs, I agree. In his quest to play as fast as possible he rushes some of his runs and changes the tempo too much that he doesn't end on the downbeat where he should sometimes.

  • Have you watched Gil Shaham play?

I think his performance is more entertaining than Sarah's performance here.

But she probably gave this performance more than two decades ago.

If she played this piece again, I'm guessing that performance would be as good as, if not better than, Gil's performance.

  • nah sarah chang is absolutely better than Gil shaham. And Sarah Chang has much more fame than him if u know

  • This is an excellent performance...as others have said, it seems to lack some of the depth and emotion that other performances have. That's something that will come with age though...for how old she is, this is an amazing performance.

  • no doubt shes good

  • "i like carmen because its fun"

    wow... it sure is fun!!!

she is just so jaw-dropping..unbelievable!!!! XXD

  • What is she like...ten in this video?

    One word: AMAAAAAZING.

It seems that the only good Asian musicians on youtube are all ten and under. xD

  • her technique is practically infallible, however it lacks a certain depth and true lack of emotion for the feeling in the piece. However she does undoubtedly play the piece very well.

  • she is just nine here....she plays with hell lot of emotions than oders of her age......dint you hear what Menuhin say?????? I WAS CARRIED AWAY BY THE RANGE OF HER MUSICAL INTERPRETATION

  • Lovely old man!

One of the best pieces of music ever!

Little Madonna with an old mind and blessed fingers!

  • Kogan is the best on this piece.

  • dear dawa;

kogan plays waxman aranged, sarah plays sarasate

  • ok... she's freaking awesome! its like.... omgosh she's good....... haha

  • WOW. I play the violin but I highly doubt mine would ever make such a beautiful sound in my hands!

  • she's a playing machine. I have to say she is really good. I watched her play carmen when she was a bit older, and this recording sounds just as great.

  • yeah. she's a bit robotic. but you cant doubt her skill and facility at such a young age.

  • I think that the emotion comes with age.

  • No I didn't know :p

    Thanks for having explained!

    Thanks you very much amati147

  • Please change the title!!

    Bizet!!!!!!!!1

  • Dear me, you don't know that Sarasate wrote this? This is based on Bizet's Carmen, but written by Sarasate! Just like the Waxman Carmen Fantasy!

  • yes, it is kind of a "version" for violin that sarasate did on the piece of Bizet.

  • yaha an arrangement. Most pieces have been rearranged into the version you would most likely recognise

  • However, Sarasate composed this beautiful arrangement of Bizet's compositions of Carmen. I think the credit should be given to both composers, would that be more fair? Hmm?

  • This is absolutely amazing, which is strange because when I first heard her recent recording of the four seasons it was terrible.

  • otherworldly interplanetary amazing!!!!!! :-)

  • sahra is universal a musicion

  • Sarah is the best!

  • sarah me da igual, me emociona la musica, el violin , la composicion, el aparente o no movimiento sobre el violin. aunque me creo que esta niña sea un genio, y por qué iba yo a dudarlo?

  • Her talent is amazing, yes, but look at that violin...that sound wouldn't come out of a rental shop's violins.

  • U never know. Maybe she has a Guannerri or a Strad but some cheap violins sound very decent.

  • With Yehudi Meuhin as a mentor I'm sure she performed on the best 1/2 or 3/4 size fiddle that could be had. She definitely plays on a Guaneri now. She's so incredible she could make an empty cereal box strung with rubberbands sound good lol.

  • actually ur right. Her violin is Guannerri even at that young age, she had guannerri.

  • no, she got her guarneri at, i think, 14.

she said she didn't use any violin more expensive than $5000 until she got her guranari.

  • Maybe she's referring to the fact that she didn't actually OWN anything more expensive than that? The violin she's playing in this video is probably a 1/2 Guarneri Del Jesu that was on loan to her at the time..

  • yes, you are correct. It was a 1/2 sized del gesu

  • are you retarded? don't comment about the quality of a violin when someone as talented as that is playing. the player still has to work to get a good sound out of any violin. the part that you included about the violin has nothing to do with her talent. the violin does not enhance one's talent. turd.

  • comment directed toward runescape28. wow. must be a computer geek.

  • well....a good violin DOES certainly help lol

  • @toganlinge Well you're the one that's retarded for even thinking her talent is directly affected by the type of instrument she has. I said nothing against her talent lol. Im just talking about how her tone is so great with the help of a Guannerri. And you must be a computer geek too if you know what my name refers to :)

  • OMG!!my dream was to play this and a 10 year old girl is WAY much better than me !and I heard that she's gonna perform Burch concerto im Malaysia??Is it true!!!???

  • oh man that part with the harmonics at 2:28-2:44 is crazy...and 10 years old doing them perfectly!

  • only 10 years old?? O_o this is simply amazing! to play so perfectly with such feeling...

  • chris brown is not talent. usher is not talent. THIS is talent.

  • there are different kinds of talent. chris brown can dance and sing. that's his talent. usher can dance and sing too, that's his talent also. im not fans of either of them, but saying that they don't have talent is simply not true.

  • yeah. agreed but i think what the comment ment was that this was far advanced then anyt pop singer and dancer could do.

  • like seriously man lol

  • Sarah is so sweet and amazing!

  • She was born and raised in Philadelphia, that's why. What's really amazing is her ability to play this piece so perfectly!!

Oh, she speaks German too :O

  • she can speak english so fluently at such a young age

  • Beautiful.

Check the woman with glasees at 3:51, hiding behind the kid. She looks so scared of her talent :D. Maybe she thinks she's possessed :D

    Amazing !

  • at 10 she was so mature!

  • she was so cute!!!!!!

  • Age of 10...

    Amazing..!

  • she's great

  • Incredible. Not only is this technically flawless but she plays it with moving emotion and character. Amazing for such a young person to have such character shine through like this. An old soul I guess.

  • Yeah, same thoughts here. I'm impressed. At the age of ten I was embaressed to practice in front of my parents. I put no emotions in my playing. But she really plays it with heart. :))

  • Brillant!!!!!!!!!

  • holy! she played carmen fantasy since the age of TEN???

  • she started playing at age 4 and she is around 8 i believe at this recital, so she has only been playing like 4 years. dam. i am gonna pray to god that i get that good when i hit the 4 year mark. 2 more years. lol she is absolutely amazing

  • =_= this is making me feel depressed!!! when will i ever be able to play like that???

  • never?

  • Oh, thanks A TON =_= that's really encouraging alright

  • :PJust messing aroung...But really the chances of playing like that are pretty limited...

  • holy shitttt. this is brilliant.

  • OH MY GOD O.O

  • insane: I was thinking the same thing. During the entire video my face was like :o...o_o...oh my

I can't even think of the words to say...

  • Amazing!

  • wow amazing!!!!i wonder what age she started to play at because she is phenomenal!!!

  • She has to be a musical genius..

  • If one listen this performance without seein her you would think that who play was one of the greatest.............make a test......

  • anyone have the music sheet for this?
