There is no record that Barnum ever said the above-quotes attributed to him. He was BELOVED by his generation. We are of a different century. A different culture. Barnum was the internet of his day. For just a dime people could see things they never imagined existed - and many of them didn't. BUT the public knew that! They called it humbug and hockum and knew they might be getting fooled. But maybe not! Like Ripley's Believe It Or Not! It was the job of the reader to see if they could tell.
P.T. Barnum was a great promoter, advertiser and circus founder. Britain's Queen Victoria loved P.T. Barnum and his distant cousin, Tom Thumb, the dwarf.
@NinjaGhostScorpion - Then I challenge you to tell me how keeping a ton and a half animal chained for most of her/his life is not "cruel". Go ahead... Tell me how lions enjoy their 12 foot forever cages... Explain how bears just love to dance - And chimps love to do tricks for humans. Tell me how tigers don't mind being de-fanged and declawed. I'm all ears and would love to engage you on this...
@beaelliott Explain how the Humane Society didn't step in to shut down these shows. Explain how the ALF never had the balls to try and free these animals. Tell me about how all PETA did was talk smack about it, rather than actually doing anything to put the kibosh on the circus. Two can play this little game.
@NinjaGhostScorpion I am not responsible for peta or hsus - Nor do I represent any agency that might have the opportunity to liberate these slave-victims. What I DO have however is the ability to educate everyone I can - AND to avoid as much as possible all practice that "use" animals... Your "points" are nonsense.
