I remember when playing this level at the age of 8 with my older brother back in 2001. I was shaking when this song came on. I was actually so afraid of this song I couldn't sleep that night. Since then until I was probably 14 I would turn on the mute when this song came on every time I was playing Halo CE. This shows how powerful a composer Martin O Donnell is. I love him! :)

There is also dripping flood goo by a doorway before you even encounter the first outbreak. Creepiest of all is likely the most obvious, the retreating covenant at the entrance of the facility.
@brownie81 Aye, before you enter the facility, you can see a yellow dot on your motion sensor, if you look up on the tree before you go across the log you can see an infected elite.
Look to the right and you see Romeo and his zombies with the mind control device in the backround (Nightmare house 2 (Look it up)) To the left you see seens of Darkspace and its sequel. Behind you you find bioshock and Fear. and In front of you the flood. You pull up your shot gun, and get ready for a long fight from all factions.
The marines advance through the dense misty jungle, feeling like they`re being watched. they see forms in the distance, but they dissapear in the mist. they`re being watched, but by who? Or what? They engage the frightened and confused grunts and jackals, but continue towards the structure. They see assault rifle fire shooting grunts outside the entrance, but find nothing.
The music, environment, the eerie crashed pelican with the repeating message. All of it just sets the PERFECT feeling for this level. Creepiest level in all of Halos.

When I first played Halo and this level came up, passing by the crashed dropships and dealing with frightened Covenant, I thought to myself: Something's very wrong.
As I went deeper, that feeling got worse, and when I found the Flood, my fears were confirmed.

I don't know if it was because I wasn't paying much attention, but the introduction to the flood in Halo 2 seemed a bit rushed. They just seemed to appear out of nowhere... However, the flood levels of Halo CE will remain my greatest moments in video game history ever.

Man. When I first played this level I was 8. When I was dropped off by Foehammer. I went walking and saw the crashed pelican and Captain Keyes ship. i was already freaked out! Then when I came to the tree trunk bit and saw the Flood on the trees and hills. I thought they were elites. Then I looked at my radar and it came up with yellow dots. I was starting to get more freaked out! Then I made it into the facility and watched the video the video. Then I screamed and turned the Xbox off.
Then as quick as lightning burst infection forms of the "New threat" scared you decide to shoot them continusly as the next waves continue. After making your way out of the Shelter you find scared marines waiting for help. You guide them to the drop zone not know what to expect. Flood forms tumble down the mountain and ambush your group one by one the marines fall to the infection. Only leaving a few marines left you make your way to the DZ... Assisted by a new freind. END LOG
Walking near the door a cutscene caches your eye. You containure patiently watching the cutscene roll when Cheif opens the door to find a marine fall into his hands. You walk into the blood covered room. And find a tape on the helment of Jenkins. Revealing the fate of Captains squad and himself. Next you tuen to action your hands sweating with fear and confusion you wonder... "What is this threat?" Next you hear banging of the doors.
You walk near the fallen tree. "What's that?" you say, seeing the freindly colours on your radar thinking it might be Captain Keyes and his squad. But shortly after looking near the yellow blob you notice a disfigured shadow escape your line of veiw. You continue onward into the shelter where Captain Keyes and his squad went into. You find many taunting clues to his squad. But all lead to nothing but ghost and walls. You make it to the final area of the constilation...
I remember feeling very tense until I saw the flood...at which point I couldn't help but burst out laughing. I was expecting something like Aliens (the movie), not gravity defying fluff balls in the millions.
Man when I finished 343 Guilty Spark I was like. Phew...... Then I got warped to the nightmare known as THE LIBRARY! hahahaha good times. Scary at a young age I tell you.
HAHAHA the first time i played this level i was 12 years old and it was 10pm at night. when the flood first bursted through those doors i think i was scarred for life with fear. IT WAS HORRIFYING !!!!! XD
What made this level so damn freaky was the fact that dead bodies kept disspearing after that gurgling noise. And the blood all over the walls... he green juice...
The Flood's appearance in this game was perfectly timed.
You'd wander through the bunker, finding the Covenant scared shitless over something, you'd see Covenant bodies piled up in rooms covered in their blood and you'd think the humans had slaughtered the Covenant... until you started finding the human bodies and the Flood came out at you from nowhere.
@16deadpool I just jumped up one of the slanted wall things when the moniter left me, turn my back to the wall and throw grenades and rain bullets on the Flood. Need ammo or grenades? JUMP, RUN, JUMP, rinse and repeat!
Wait I found the lone-marine standing there at the hills but I did not see any flood wandering about... Wait where were they again. I wanna see whether I can find them. Oh yeah and I hated that level the most lol. When I first got there there was this feeling that there may be more than covenants at this place. Then seeing the flood. I WAS LIKE OMFG Get the Fuck off me!!! All my life I thought zombies were the scariest things. Now I know who should I be more afraid of... The flood...
@FallenRevenant Zombies are flesh eaters, the Flood, the REAL Flood, are the infecters, and nothing is more horrifying than something crawling under ur skin... U can tell that Sgt. Johnson gets a form of Shell Shock from the Flood, Halo 1, cool and unbeatable, Halo 2, hes abit more serious, Halo 3, HUGE BAGS UNDER HIS EYES (No sleep) and he is WAAAAAY terrified.
at the beginning of this level, when i went near the crashed pelican and listened to that message being repeated over that radio, that actually kinda gave me the creeps. i even remember that one time, i was coming up the steep hill, and i saw an elite flood standing there! guess it was a glitch or something.
i remember the first time i played this mission, i kill some covenants and the went wandering around i found the marine and killed it cause it didnt move, then when i got on the tree that is a bridge and saw the silhouette of something like an Elite, then i kept going and kill the infection flood thingies, and then BAG the FLood owned me
I remember when i first played that level. even though there were many signs that something wasn't right, the flood still caught me off guard. i was so freaked out hahaha.
This reminds me of the level when the master cheif was alone without cortana and when he got dropped off by echo 419 he started walking and it was really dark and fog was there and seeing some marines dead and seeing captain key's ship crash and getting the left over stuff like health pack and gun stuff and kept walking and thats when gungans and alliances and jackles were attacking huh memories
gunguns are the little ones that has a really hugh voices and the alliances are the armored tall guys that laughs really low and talks low they are in the game halo trust me I played it
this song was on when i went to laser zone yesterday i was by myself i could hear everyone shooting eachother but couldnt see anyone flashing lights and smoke everywhere with this music playing it was a bit creepy until i came across the whole enemy team running into me
Try playing 343 Guilty Spark on your first time with no music on. It may seem better, but its actually much creepier. The deathly silence is extremely unnerving.

We got to the part before Mastercheif opens the door where the Marine falls on you, and that slithering noise is heard. Right as you hear the slither, my brother started messing with my hair and whatnot. xD I screamed so loud and fell out of my chair.
god this mission was freaky seeing dead people and crashed dropships and just catching a glimpse of things passing you on hills and i remember seeing one at the top of i big tree and i was like 'ohhhh hell what was that'
Yeah the allies to the RIGHT were your teammates showing they were heading to see Sargeant or Keys... cant remember but the left one I saw once was spark and the right are marines... If you use a command or something to climb walls u can see them just and the moving one is actualy Mendoza I think, but after u get out the base and go back there u see some dead flood I thinks
The only part of Floodgate that was scary is when you see the guy mutate, but that's about it. The reason why it freaked out some players is because they wheren't expecting and because the flod where never able to mutate victims within seconds
Most of the flood levels in halo one were creepy, halo 2 not so much but Floodgate was pretty good with the creep factor. Like the crazy marine that had to kil his entire squad?

well, if you run fast enough, you get to see them, and i agree, you're all like, oh a new enemy, and then a flesh eating parasite that wants to take over the world comes in, and tries to eat the chief.

In Halo CE the Flood actually felt like a nightmare. In the other Halo games they felt just like any other enemy like the Covenant.

But shortly after looking near the yellow blob you notice a disfigured shadow escape your line of veiw. You continue onward into the shelter where Captain Keyes and his squad went into. You find many taunting clues to his squad. But all lead to nothing but ghost and walls. You make it to the final area of the constilation...

The Flood's appearance in this game was perfectly timed.
You'd wander through the bunker, finding the Covenant scared shitless over something, you'd see Covenant bodies piled up in rooms covered in their blood and you'd think the humans had slaughtered the Covenant... until you started finding the human bodies and the Flood came out at you from nowhere.

@FallenRevenant Zombies are flesh eaters, the Flood, the REAL Flood, are the infecters, and nothing is more horrifying than something crawling under ur skin... U can tell that Sgt. Johnson gets a form of Shell Shock from the Flood, Halo 1, cool and unbeatable, Halo 2, hes abit more serious, Halo 3, HUGE BAGS UNDER HIS EYES (No sleep) and he is WAAAAAY terrified.

at the beginning of this level, when i went near the crashed pelican and listened to that message being repeated over that radio, that actually kinda gave me the creeps. i even remember that one time, i was coming up the steep hill, and i saw an elite flood standing there! guess it was a glitch or something.

i remember the first time i played this mission, i kill some covenants and the went wandering around i found the marine and killed it cause it didnt move, then when i got on the tree that is a bridge and saw the silhouette of something like an Elite, then i kept going and kill the infection flood thingies, and then BAG the FLood owned me

This reminds me of the level when the master cheif was alone without cortana and when he got dropped off by echo 419 he started walking and it was really dark and fog was there and seeing some marines dead and seeing captain key's ship crash and getting the left over stuff like health pack and gun stuff and kept walking and thats when gungans and alliances and jackles were attacking huh memories

this song was on when i went to laser zone yesterday i was by myself i could hear everyone shooting eachother but couldnt see anyone flashing lights and smoke everywhere with this music playing it was a bit creepy until i came across the whole enemy team running into me

Try playing 343 Guilty Spark on your first time with no music on. It may seem better, but its actually much creepier. The deathly silence is extremely unnerving.

It was my first time playing that level at ten years old and I was SO terrified. xD
We got to the part before Mastercheif opens the door where the Marine falls on you, and that slithering noise is heard. Right as you hear the slither, my brother started messing with my hair and whatnot. xD I screamed so loud and fell out of my chair.

Yeah the allies to the RIGHT were your teammates showing they were heading to see Sargeant or Keys... cant remember but the left one I saw once was spark and the right are marines... If you use a command or something to climb walls u can see them just and the moving one is actualy Mendoza I think, but after u get out the base and go back there u see some dead flood I thinks

The only part of Floodgate that was scary is when you see the guy mutate, but that's about it. The reason why it freaked out some players is because they wheren't expecting and because the flod where never able to mutate victims within seconds
