My brother work for Toyota at Indiana for 2 years and got to drive the new tundras and loved them. If you want a reliable truck get a chevy. Chevy is the first to have one of their trucks go over 1,000,000 miles. There has been 6 or 7 GM vehincles go over a million miles. Look up million mile ford and Toyota. There is nothing. Dodge had a cummins go 1,000,000 miles and that's cuz it's a well built engine. So dodge and chevy are the way to go if you want tough, reliable, and freakin awesome

Im debating wether to buy the Tundra or the F150. Both are fantastic trucks. Iv always been a American made truck fan but the Tundra has really cought my attention. Both trucks look great, this is a hard choice for me.
the tundra. ive had an f150, dad had an f150, uncle had an f150....not one lasted longer than 4 years. theyre excellent for a little while but theyre just made too poorly to last. but if you are in a line of work where you NEED to change the truck every 4 years anyways, then get the f150. theyre great...but they dont last.
I think the new Tundra is a huge improvement over the old model. It doesn't look like just a longer Tacoma anymore, its a hell of a lot faster, and the interior material is now "Luxury" for a pickup. However, lets face it. The F150 is cheaper and works harder.
Now, here is the real kicker. On the Tundra, you can't tow 10,800lbs with the payload package. So it's either tow 10,800lbs and have a puny payload, or haul 2065lbs of stuff yet only be able to tow 8,800lbs.
With the F150 you don't have to compromise. You can have both the 11,000lb towing and the 3080lb payload.
Also, the F150 starts out at around $5,000 cheaper than the Tundra. For the same price as an F150 with the 5.4L V8, HD payload package, and the HD towing package, you could only get a V6 Tundra that can only do half the work for the same price.
*When properly equipped
And that is why the F150 is the best selling truck for 30 years running. It is the most capable 1/2 ton pickup while also being the cheapest.
bizkillall your statement on pricing is severly misinformed. The Double Cab 5.7 L Tundra starts at $600 more than the F150 Super Cab XLT 5.4 L. At this price difference the Tundra can tow nearly 4,000 lbs more, gets better gas mileage, more safety features and has a 6 speed transmission.
Add in the longer wheelbase, the HD payload package, and the HD towing package with the 5.4L V8 and the F150 comes out to around a $24,000 MSRP. For $24,000 all you can get is a V6 Tundra.
ANd just for shits and giggles, you are wrong about the Tundras SC towing 4,000lbs more than the F150 DC.
F150 DC Towing - 9500lbs
Tundra SC Towing - 10,400lbs
Where is the 4,000lb difference? Also, don't forget that the Tundra has to lower its payload capacity to a measily 1605lbs to tow anything over 8,800lbs. Hell, even my current 2000 F150 has a higher payload than that and its design is more than 10 years old.
Biz, the F150 only tows that with the optional towing package. The 5.7 L Tundra comes standard with the towing package. The XLT 5.4 L Triton Super Cab starts with a towing capacity 3,900 lbs lower than what the Tundra 5.7 L Double Cab starts at.
The F150 with the payload and towing package is still cheaper than a 5.7L Tundra. That was my whole point.
My other point was that if you get the payload package on the Tundra, you can only tow 8,800lbs. You can't have both.
With the F150 you can have a 3,000lb payload and tow 11,000lbs. It tows more and has a bigger payload and there is no need to choose between having a bigger payload or tow more like you would with the Tundra.
False again Biz. The Double Cab Tundra 5.7 L starts at $600 more than the F150 Triton 5.4 L Super Cab. In this configuration the Tundra can tow 3,900 more lbs than the F150. Also the only F150 capable of towing over 9,500lbs is the regular cab which 75% of everyday consumers will never even consider buying.
Did you completely miss my reply stating that an F150 with the Towing and Payload package for the 11,000lb towing and the 3,000payload comes to around $24,000. Show me anywhere on Toyotas website where you can price a 5.7L Tundra for $24,000. I bet you can't.
And people who are buying a work truck don't look at the 4 door models as they of course will have a lower Towing and Payload as the Regular cab versions.
Biz I agree that in the Regular Cab's the F150 is cheaper, I have not argued against that. My argument is that 75% of everyday consumers do not even consider buying the Regular Cab's because they are so limited in their use. The trucks that the majority of consumers buy is where Toyota is the most competitive price wise. My arguement is that in the extended cab configuration the Tundra is a much better value at its base price than the F150 is with similiar options.
That is why I said that for a personal everyday Truck, I would get the Tundra. But for a work truck, teh F150 would be my pick.
Also, people who buy REAL work trucks (3/4 and full tons) spend way more than $24,000. You are looking in the price range of $40-50,000. A $24,000 work truck is a drop in a bucket.
i have to agree with bizkillall. the f150 is the better work truck....there is a catch though. they are not built as hardy as the tundra. my family has gone through 3 f150's in 4 years. my dad is a contractor so he uses them for there payload, but i would never buy one as they just dont last. definitely a tough truck during their lifetime however
The new Tundra hasn't even been out for 4 years, so how can you go and make claims that it will last longer than 4 years?
Its all about how a truck is used and abused when it comes to how long it lasts. My f150 had 125K miles at the time of trade in. I put that thing through hell. Offroading, over capacity payloads, towing, ect... The thing still ran like new when I traded it in (Although it didn't look new)Keep up the maintenance and and any truck will last.
Hi Krickbaumt, I see where this arguement is going. I know about the package for Ford. It is pretty darn sad you can get a Ford F-150 for a lower price and tow more than a Tundra which can drive up the cost just to get that quote on quote 10,500 pounds or what ever it is.
Am I a Ford fan? Hell yeah! Am I a Toyota fan? Fuck yeah! What do I currently drive? A 2000 F150 XLT V6 Ext. Cab with 120K miles. What will I be purchasing next month? A Toyota Tacoma Prerunner V6. If I had the money and had to choose between the F150 or the Tundra for personal driving, I would choose the Tundra. Why? Because it is a sweet ass ride. If I had to choose one or the other for work, I would choose the F150. Why? Because I always try and find the easiest way to finish a job.
All you Ford fanboys go fuck off. Everyone knows the Duramax diesels and 350's are built solid. In fact about the only truck I wouldn't buy is a Ford.
Hey dodge, you can certainly have your own opinions, but the opinions of the experts say otherwise. As for you who invented the pick up truck comment, that has absolutely nothing to do with who is making a better truck in 2007. The V8 comment is completely wrong, the first V8 was a Rolls Royce in 1905, the first American V8 was a Cadillac in 1914. Ford didn't come out with a V8 until 1932, almost 30 years late. Nice try on making Ford sound better than they actually are though.
yes everyone please go to the ford website. they aren't biased at all. dumbass. while your on youtube, search "killing a toyota". also type in toyota reviews. and go to forums and read about them. actually, go buy a tundra and after 20 years come back and say how sick and tired you are of looking at the same truck that just won't break.
you know how much it will cost to replace the 6-speed transmission when it goes? or how much it will cost to replace rotors that are 2 feet wide? or how much gas the 5.7L sucks up? but its still a kick ass truck
Really Dodge, considering that Ford is going to a 6 speed transmission next year, as is Chevy and Dodge, I'd say they are playing follow the leader, and the Tundra is the leader.
Ahh, so no one can use disc brakes from now on, is that your point Dodge? Ford didn't come up with the first 6 speed transmission, or the 5.7 L engine, those are both as good as it gets in this class Dodge.
If I am not mistaken Frenchy agrees with my point about the towing numbers Punch, a great time to jump into this conversation and make yourself look even more intelligent.
In the very post you accuse me of lying, you state that "When a manufacturer sells thousands of trucks with defective camshafts..."
Now I presume you were talking about Toyota, if you were that would be a lie. "Thousands" does not equal 20. Also, it is easy to accuse someone of lying when you do not point the "lie" out, try and go the difficult route by showing everyone where I lied.
French my point is that these towing capacity numbers are not regulated by anybody and are not calculated in any set way for each company. It is just a number that the company puts up there on there own. I think the Tundra is just as capable at towing as the Ford if not much more capable due to its bigger engine, better tranny and bigger breaks.
What does me having posted with two names have to do with anything? I guess I have to explain to you that krickbaum is my brothers name on here and I did not realize I was in under his name? Keep citing that stuff about the camshaft and I'll keep bringing up the over 5 million half tons from Chevy, Dodge, Ford and GM that have been recalled in the last 5 years.
Punch what are you talking about. First off if I'm citing facts (which I agree, they are facts) they cannot be incorrect, a fact is a truth, an absolute. If you have a problem with things I am stating Punch pick something out and I'll tell you why I'm right, Otherwise saying that I am posting "propaganda" (what is this WWII?) is, well, just plain dumb.
Plus more power, better gas mileage and a very comparable payload ability in each cab configuration. All of this for a lower MSRP? It seems like the Tundra has changed a lot. Oh yea, and the Tundra is the only 1/2 to increase its sales from last year to this year. Chevy and Ford are going to struggle if there pick ups sales continue to decline at 5-10% a year and the Toyota's continue to increase at that same rate.
That isn't true krick. The Tundra gets 10-12 mpg city and a bit more on highway. The Tundra was better then F150 for a month, but then the F150 pulled ahead with supperior payload and bed capacity. Toyota had no mind to keep upgrading and upgrading to keep ahead of their rivals they just wanted to get it out there.
Where is the Tundra getting 10-12 MPG in the city? Combined driving, that is city, highway and towing the Tundra gets better gas mileage (14.2 mpg I believe in the Edmunds test) than the Ford, Chevy, GM or Dodge
Based on the latest testing results plus personal expericience when driving the truck it gets 10 - 12 mpgs in the city. This was with the 5.6L V8 engine.
In your personal experience driving the Tundra did you happen to notice that it is a 5.7 L engine? What latest testing results are you talking about? Go to edmunds dot com and look up the Tundra and the other 1/2 tons and tell me what the tested gas mileage is. The Tundra is on top, those are facts.
It was typo yes it is a 5.7l v8, but big whoop. Edmunds may say that, but everyone knowns just because it says that doesn't mean its true. MPG is always lower then its stated.
MPG is always lower than stated? So you are saying that these articles written by people who test these cars "always" are lieing? The MPG seen during the testing of these automobiles is "always" bumped up a few points when the article is written? What are you talking about French, this is Edmunds observed MPG during testing, not the EPA estimated MPG.
The Mpg always differs then the stated numbers. Even when it is taken exactly from the truck in motion. Driving habbits are always different so these numbers will also be different.
I agree that MPG depends on the way you drive, but these trucks all went through the exact same tests the exact same way and the Tundra came out with the best overall gas mileage. If you are going to be towing anything the Tundra's gase mileage will be at least a mile and a half better per gallon. A 6 speed transmission is key to fuel economy when compared to others with 4 and 5 speeds
The payload numbers I am not sure on, I don't know why the Ford's numbers are so much higher than the other 1/2 tons. You will say it is due to the fully boxed frame, I will say that is bogus because the F150 is virtually the only truck available with a fully boxed frame... including the Superduty Diesels that can tow upwards of 20,000 lbs.
Now that you mention I do agree with you theres no way they could get 11,000 towing capacity with out putting in a bigger engine and a frame would have nothing to do with towing capacity.
The F150 pulled ahead with the exact same truck that it had listed at 9500 (rounded) lbs for towing last year. I don't understand how that works, maybe you can explain?
They pulled ahed this year with a truck that can pull over 11,000 get your facts straight. Plus with a bed capacity of over 890 lbs. more then their leading competitor.
Frenchy my facts are straight what are you talking about? I was asking how the same exact truck that had a towing capacity of 9500lbs last year has a towing capacity of 11,000lbs this year. The truck hasn't changed yet the towing capacity increases 1500 lbs? Did they just mis type that last year or did they just raise it so they could be higher than the Tundra's.
To be exact the 2007 F150 can carry 3,050 in its bed. It towing capacity is 11,000. If you go to ford's site its there under f150. You can say your right but your wrong.
Frenchy you are having a difficult time catching what I am throwing apparently, I will try and make this easier to understand for you. I understand that the F150 is listed at 11,000 and 3000 lbs for this year. And I thank you for stating those numbers so we can agree upon them. Can you tell me what the F150's towing and hauling capabilities were last year?
First of all The 2006 model has nothing to do with this but, heres the numbers: 9,900 for towing capacity and 3,020 bed capacity. So it increased 1,100 big whoop. They just put a bigger engine in it.
What? The engine is the exact same, no changes whatsoever to the engine. Try again. Once again how does the EXACT SAME TRUCK as last year increase its towing capacity just enough to pass the truck that passed them considerably?
How exactly is the truck changing it all? Most of these features are standard on Ford for years. Also, how come many trucks can pull more and have a better payload yet their "high tech" frame.
No 1/2 ton truck in this class has the tailgate assist, standard side air bags, standard limited slip, standard traction control, standard variable slip control, standard 5 speed with optional 6 speed transmission... the list goes on. Also the only truck that can tow more than any Tundra is the Regular Cab F-150. Toyota has every other truck beat in every other cab configuration.
I know a friend who owns Smart Toyota and he bought the V8 Crewmax Tundra it is so cool. You will not believe the accelartation and braking it has. Suprisingly it is quiet and a really smooth ride.
for the person who doesn't know what they are talking about below me. i work for toyota as a mechanic and in my 6 years working for them i have NEVER seen a driveshaft snap or an engine quit. someone needs to do there homework. And how about you go to the dealer and test drive this baby. You will never set foot in a chevy, dodge or ford again. believe me. i own 7 toyota's.
Finally, gas milage wise I have yet to see a test where the Silverado got better milage over the entire test, which would include towing, city driving and highway driving. Even with their 4 - cylinder shut off, which I bet every GMC owner hates when a Tundra pulls up next to them.
As for the Big Three being in trouble, I don't see how you can say they are not. Posting loses combining to equal billions of dollars a year over the last 3 years they certainly aren't at there best. Also, the Tundra is the only 1/2 ton truck to see an increase in sales from last year to this year. I believe the Chevy's are down 11%. Thats struggling in my book.
The only GMC truck engine that is more powerful than the Tundra's is the 6.2L Denali. To get this truck you will have to spend 48 to $50,000 to have options similiar to the Tundra's. Every other 1/2 ton engine is below the Tundra in HP and Torque.
the people who watch these ads and no jack about the real facts crack me up more than the commercials themselves...do yourself a favor and research before you start saying the big three are in trouble...
Does anyone else see the blatent advertising of overcompensation here? Its definitely catering to viewer with the small penis. You want to have big parts, our truck's have big parts...mercy. Toyota: define your dumbass hick self through your truck.
(Continued)Gas mileage? The 5.3 Chevy V8 beats the V6 Tundra, as do all the other comparable engines between the two. Trailer hitch? The Tundra's is so big because it has C frame, Chevy's is boxed and doesn't need one. Saftey? Tundra got 4* crash, all other full-sized got 5*.
Go read a magazine, any magazine. They all say the Tundra isn't cutting it.
This is all BS, look at the FACTS. The brake rotors aren't from a full size pickup, they're from the Colorado. The Silverado has a SHORTER 60-0 distance than the Tundra. Also, the engine they show is their biggest, and they compare it to the competition's smallest. Try out the Chevy 6.2L for size, eh? More horsepower AND torque, hell, even the 6.0 has more.
And there's a diffrence between DOHC and Pushrod, but I didn't complain. If you want to compare apples to apples, feel free to compare the 5.7L LS6 to Toyota's 5.7L. Not my fault it's not in the trucks, I work with what they give me.
To all the Ford, Chevy and Dodge truck drivers. No use looking over your shoulder anymore, because Toyota is flying right by you. All these Comments from people who think the Tundra won't keep up! How can you say that when most of you here can't even afford one. "Desperation is a stinky cologne"
I like the ads, love the truck...however: may never touch the F-150, 1500 or ram 1500 for payload and capacity, but people will nonetheless buy this nice machine.
I wasn't much of a Toyota truck fan until I started watching Toyota start pulling it's own weight... I have to agree... I love these ads... just as much as I love the VW ads.

For $24,000 all you can get is a V6 Tundra, or maybe even the 4.7L V8 Tundra without the towing or payload package.

With the F150 you can have a 3,000lb payload and tow 11,000lbs. It tows more and has a bigger payload and there is no need to choose between having a bigger payload or tow more like you would with the Tundra.
bizkillall 4 years ago
False again Biz. The Double Cab Tundra 5.7 L starts at $600 more than the F150 Triton 5.4 L Super Cab. In this configuration the Tundra can tow 3,900 more lbs than the F150. Also the only F150 capable of towing over 9,500lbs is the regular cab which 75% of everyday consumers will never even consider buying.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Did you completely miss my reply stating that an F150 with the Towing and Payload package for the 11,000lb towing and the 3,000payload comes to around $24,000. Show me anywhere on Toyotas website where you can price a 5.7L Tundra for $24,000. I bet you can't.
And people who are buying a work truck don't look at the 4 door models as they of course will have a lower Towing and Payload as the Regular cab versions.
bizkillall 4 years ago
Biz I agree that in the Regular Cab's the F150 is cheaper, I have not argued against that. My argument is that 75% of everyday consumers do not even consider buying the Regular Cab's because they are so limited in their use. The trucks that the majority of consumers buy is where Toyota is the most competitive price wise. My arguement is that in the extended cab configuration the Tundra is a much better value at its base price than the F150 is with similiar options.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
That is why I said that for a personal everyday Truck, I would get the Tundra. But for a work truck, teh F150 would be my pick.
Also, people who buy REAL work trucks (3/4 and full tons) spend way more than $24,000. You are looking in the price range of $40-50,000. A $24,000 work truck is a drop in a bucket.
bizkillall 4 years ago
i have to agree with bizkillall. the f150 is the better work truck....there is a catch though. they are not built as hardy as the tundra. my family has gone through 3 f150's in 4 years. my dad is a contractor so he uses them for there payload, but i would never buy one as they just dont last. definitely a tough truck during their lifetime however
pimpslap1256 4 years ago
The new Tundra hasn't even been out for 4 years, so how can you go and make claims that it will last longer than 4 years?
Its all about how a truck is used and abused when it comes to how long it lasts. My f150 had 125K miles at the time of trade in. I put that thing through hell. Offroading, over capacity payloads, towing, ect... The thing still ran like new when I traded it in (Although it didn't look new)Keep up the maintenance and and any truck will last.
bizkillall 4 years ago
Anyone spending $24,000 on a truck used solely for working is an idiot in my book.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Hi Krickbaumt, I see where this arguement is going. I know about the package for Ford. It is pretty darn sad you can get a Ford F-150 for a lower price and tow more than a Tundra which can drive up the cost just to get that quote on quote 10,500 pounds or what ever it is.
DodgeAvenger08 4 years ago
Am I a Ford fan? Hell yeah! Am I a Toyota fan? Fuck yeah! What do I currently drive? A 2000 F150 XLT V6 Ext. Cab with 120K miles. What will I be purchasing next month? A Toyota Tacoma Prerunner V6. If I had the money and had to choose between the F150 or the Tundra for personal driving, I would choose the Tundra. Why? Because it is a sweet ass ride. If I had to choose one or the other for work, I would choose the F150. Why? Because I always try and find the easiest way to finish a job.

everyone please..before you even consider this thing a good truck.. go to ford website and look up the ford f-150.You'll see what is a good truck.
dodgefan07 4 years ago
Hey dodge, you can certainly have your own opinions, but the opinions of the experts say otherwise. As for you who invented the pick up truck comment, that has absolutely nothing to do with who is making a better truck in 2007. The V8 comment is completely wrong, the first V8 was a Rolls Royce in 1905, the first American V8 was a Cadillac in 1914. Ford didn't come out with a V8 until 1932, almost 30 years late. Nice try on making Ford sound better than they actually are though.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
yes everyone please go to the ford website. they aren't biased at all. dumbass. while your on youtube, search "killing a toyota". also type in toyota reviews. and go to forums and read about them. actually, go buy a tundra and after 20 years come back and say how sick and tired you are of looking at the same truck that just won't break.
rephlex66 4 years ago
you know how much it will cost to replace the 6-speed transmission when it goes? or how much it will cost to replace rotors that are 2 feet wide? or how much gas the 5.7L sucks up? but its still a kick ass truck

dodgefan07 4 years ago 2
Really Dodge, considering that Ford is going to a 6 speed transmission next year, as is Chevy and Dodge, I'd say they are playing follow the leader, and the Tundra is the leader.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Well, first off, The all the stuff the Tundra comes from is actually Ford's ideas, like big bed bolts and disc brakes.
dodgefan07 4 years ago
Ahh, so no one can use disc brakes from now on, is that your point Dodge? Ford didn't come up with the first 6 speed transmission, or the 5.7 L engine, those are both as good as it gets in this class Dodge.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Perhaps so. Toyota just made it better though.

True but, now every defective camshaft is neseciarly gonna f**k the engine up. Its a possibility, but its not absolute.

If I am not mistaken Frenchy agrees with my point about the towing numbers Punch, a great time to jump into this conversation and make yourself look even more intelligent.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Agreed don't say something if its gonna make you look like an idiot.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
In the very post you accuse me of lying, you state that "When a manufacturer sells thousands of trucks with defective camshafts..."
Now I presume you were talking about Toyota, if you were that would be a lie. "Thousands" does not equal 20. Also, it is easy to accuse someone of lying when you do not point the "lie" out, try and go the difficult route by showing everyone where I lied.

hy·poc·ri·sy [hi-pok-ruh-see]
1. a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.
2. insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have
You should learn what this word means Punch, this is taken from Dictionary dot com.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Yeah you already said that.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
French my point is that these towing capacity numbers are not regulated by anybody and are not calculated in any set way for each company. It is just a number that the company puts up there on there own. I think the Tundra is just as capable at towing as the Ford if not much more capable due to its bigger engine, better tranny and bigger breaks.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Ok I see what your saying now. Ford is supposedly posting wrong numbers to say that they are better then other competors when they are actually not.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
What does me having posted with two names have to do with anything? I guess I have to explain to you that krickbaum is my brothers name on here and I did not realize I was in under his name? Keep citing that stuff about the camshaft and I'll keep bringing up the over 5 million half tons from Chevy, Dodge, Ford and GM that have been recalled in the last 5 years.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Punch what are you talking about. First off if I'm citing facts (which I agree, they are facts) they cannot be incorrect, a fact is a truth, an absolute. If you have a problem with things I am stating Punch pick something out and I'll tell you why I'm right, Otherwise saying that I am posting "propaganda" (what is this WWII?) is, well, just plain dumb.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
I can totally feel the 'meat and potatoes', texan feel through the commercial. Helloooo Dolly!!!
pferdestarke 4 years ago
Plus more power, better gas mileage and a very comparable payload ability in each cab configuration. All of this for a lower MSRP? It seems like the Tundra has changed a lot. Oh yea, and the Tundra is the only 1/2 to increase its sales from last year to this year. Chevy and Ford are going to struggle if there pick ups sales continue to decline at 5-10% a year and the Toyota's continue to increase at that same rate.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
That isn't true krick. The Tundra gets 10-12 mpg city and a bit more on highway. The Tundra was better then F150 for a month, but then the F150 pulled ahead with supperior payload and bed capacity. Toyota had no mind to keep upgrading and upgrading to keep ahead of their rivals they just wanted to get it out there.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
Where is the Tundra getting 10-12 MPG in the city? Combined driving, that is city, highway and towing the Tundra gets better gas mileage (14.2 mpg I believe in the Edmunds test) than the Ford, Chevy, GM or Dodge
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Based on the latest testing results plus personal expericience when driving the truck it gets 10 - 12 mpgs in the city. This was with the 5.6L V8 engine.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
In your personal experience driving the Tundra did you happen to notice that it is a 5.7 L engine? What latest testing results are you talking about? Go to edmunds dot com and look up the Tundra and the other 1/2 tons and tell me what the tested gas mileage is. The Tundra is on top, those are facts.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
It was typo yes it is a 5.7l v8, but big whoop. Edmunds may say that, but everyone knowns just because it says that doesn't mean its true. MPG is always lower then its stated.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
MPG is always lower than stated? So you are saying that these articles written by people who test these cars "always" are lieing? The MPG seen during the testing of these automobiles is "always" bumped up a few points when the article is written? What are you talking about French, this is Edmunds observed MPG during testing, not the EPA estimated MPG.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
The Mpg always differs then the stated numbers. Even when it is taken exactly from the truck in motion. Driving habbits are always different so these numbers will also be different.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
I agree that MPG depends on the way you drive, but these trucks all went through the exact same tests the exact same way and the Tundra came out with the best overall gas mileage. If you are going to be towing anything the Tundra's gase mileage will be at least a mile and a half better per gallon. A 6 speed transmission is key to fuel economy when compared to others with 4 and 5 speeds
krickbaumt 4 years ago
The payload numbers I am not sure on, I don't know why the Ford's numbers are so much higher than the other 1/2 tons. You will say it is due to the fully boxed frame, I will say that is bogus because the F150 is virtually the only truck available with a fully boxed frame... including the Superduty Diesels that can tow upwards of 20,000 lbs.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Now that you mention I do agree with you theres no way they could get 11,000 towing capacity with out putting in a bigger engine and a frame would have nothing to do with towing capacity.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
The F150 pulled ahead with the exact same truck that it had listed at 9500 (rounded) lbs for towing last year. I don't understand how that works, maybe you can explain?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
They pulled ahed this year with a truck that can pull over 11,000 get your facts straight. Plus with a bed capacity of over 890 lbs. more then their leading competitor.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
Frenchy my facts are straight what are you talking about? I was asking how the same exact truck that had a towing capacity of 9500lbs last year has a towing capacity of 11,000lbs this year. The truck hasn't changed yet the towing capacity increases 1500 lbs? Did they just mis type that last year or did they just raise it so they could be higher than the Tundra's.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
To be exact the 2007 F150 can carry 3,050 in its bed. It towing capacity is 11,000. If you go to ford's site its there under f150. You can say your right but your wrong.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
Frenchy you are having a difficult time catching what I am throwing apparently, I will try and make this easier to understand for you. I understand that the F150 is listed at 11,000 and 3000 lbs for this year. And I thank you for stating those numbers so we can agree upon them. Can you tell me what the F150's towing and hauling capabilities were last year?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
First of all The 2006 model has nothing to do with this but, heres the numbers: 9,900 for towing capacity and 3,020 bed capacity. So it increased 1,100 big whoop. They just put a bigger engine in it.
Frenchy494 4 years ago
What? The engine is the exact same, no changes whatsoever to the engine. Try again. Once again how does the EXACT SAME TRUCK as last year increase its towing capacity just enough to pass the truck that passed them considerably?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
How exactly is the truck changing it all? Most of these features are standard on Ford for years. Also, how come many trucks can pull more and have a better payload yet their "high tech" frame.
rmueller11 4 years ago
No 1/2 ton truck in this class has the tailgate assist, standard side air bags, standard limited slip, standard traction control, standard variable slip control, standard 5 speed with optional 6 speed transmission... the list goes on. Also the only truck that can tow more than any Tundra is the Regular Cab F-150. Toyota has every other truck beat in every other cab configuration.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
I know a friend who owns Smart Toyota and he bought the V8 Crewmax Tundra it is so cool. You will not believe the accelartation and braking it has. Suprisingly it is quiet and a really smooth ride.

jackandcoffee1145 4 years ago
So Ford purposly put the slowest weakest engine in their truck because trucks aren't supposed to go fast?
krickbaum 4 years ago
Why would you want to put a weak engine in a truck? you need a powerfull engine!
Evan0291 4 years ago
Finally, gas milage wise I have yet to see a test where the Silverado got better milage over the entire test, which would include towing, city driving and highway driving. Even with their 4 - cylinder shut off, which I bet every GMC owner hates when a Tundra pulls up next to them.
krickbaum 4 years ago
As for the Big Three being in trouble, I don't see how you can say they are not. Posting loses combining to equal billions of dollars a year over the last 3 years they certainly aren't at there best. Also, the Tundra is the only 1/2 ton truck to see an increase in sales from last year to this year. I believe the Chevy's are down 11%. Thats struggling in my book.
krickbaum 4 years ago
The only GMC truck engine that is more powerful than the Tundra's is the 6.2L Denali. To get this truck you will have to spend 48 to $50,000 to have options similiar to the Tundra's. Every other 1/2 ton engine is below the Tundra in HP and Torque.

*Conclusion: Silverado can't keep up with power output.
Gonzalor29 4 years ago
-Hey KatearSS, you're saying that the 6.2 and 6.0 have more horsepower and torque...But did you see that they have 0.5L and 0.3L more displacement ??
That automatically gives it more torque...AND more emissions...
- Comparing the LS6 to this car's engine is the most STUPID thing you can ever do...
This engine was made for torque and pulling stuff...
The LS6 was made with performance in mind, that's why you see it in the CORVETTE...

With regards to horsepower and torque the Tundra beats the Silverado,
Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 (381 hp,401 lb.-ft)
Chevy Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 (367 hp,375 lb.-ft)
And i'm not aware of any 6.2L being offered as an option for the Silverado or the GMC Sierra
y00t00b33 4 years ago
It's on the Denali versions.
KatearSS 4 years ago
(Continued)Gas mileage? The 5.3 Chevy V8 beats the V6 Tundra, as do all the other comparable engines between the two. Trailer hitch? The Tundra's is so big because it has C frame, Chevy's is boxed and doesn't need one. Saftey? Tundra got 4* crash, all other full-sized got 5*.
Go read a magazine, any magazine. They all say the Tundra isn't cutting it.
KatearSS 4 years ago
This is all BS, look at the FACTS. The brake rotors aren't from a full size pickup, they're from the Colorado. The Silverado has a SHORTER 60-0 distance than the Tundra. Also, the engine they show is their biggest, and they compare it to the competition's smallest. Try out the Chevy 6.2L for size, eh? More horsepower AND torque, hell, even the 6.0 has more.
KatearSS 4 years ago
Ya know, there is a difference between a 6.2L and a 5.7L
Anton1382 4 years ago
And there's a diffrence between DOHC and Pushrod, but I didn't complain. If you want to compare apples to apples, feel free to compare the 5.7L LS6 to Toyota's 5.7L. Not my fault it's not in the trucks, I work with what they give me.
