Funny the way these guys maneuver the discussion away from the real issue. What is on point here is that Sarah Palin's daughter is NOT a PUBLIC FIGURE. The issue is a legal one and has serious financial consequences. Just because someone is famous (or notorious), has ready access to the media and can challenge what is broadcasted about them does not necessarily mean that their family do so as well. David Letterman and his staff really botched-up that one.

As Americans, aethists or morally guided spiritual people, we don't need to joke nationally. JOKE or not about grown men impregnating children. Had Letterman said the same about the Obama children, he would have been off the air. This is an AMERICAN standard that has been fought hard for to protect all AMERICANS so they can go online & criticize what they don't agree with.

It was Palin's 14-year-old daughter that accompanied her to New York and to Yankee Stadium and Letterman KNEW this. Letterman knew this the night he told his "jokes" and he also of course he still knows it. So two days later when he offered this lame lying spin and tries to say he meant the 18 year old is a complete lie by Letterman. The 18 year old wasn't there and Letterman knows that. He's just hoping the public is stupid.

I'm not a Republican but I am a daughter of teenage girls. I agree with Letterman it wasn't funny, I agree with Latterman it was in extremely poor taste and I agree with Letterman that he should not have told the joke. And Letterman is STILL a liar for not admitting the joke was about the 14-year-old. The 14-year-old was the only daughter with Palin and Letterman knew that.

Palin of course has every right to be upset. Comics are given a little slack for the sake of making a joke but they can and do cross the line. Say anything you want about me but my family is off limits. Letterman may have meant the joke toward her 18 year old, which is still off limits, but the 14 year old was the one at the game. Letterman should make a SINCERE apology and admit that nothing in that joke was okay.

You obviously have not been watching tv for the past 9 months or so. If you had, you would have seen how the media attacked and exposed her family privacy to the nation. She was on the receiving end of countless attacks that were uncalled for. Go after Sara all you want. Shes can handle it. Leave kids alone. That is the point. Every family has problems just as I'm sure yours do. It's not fair to expose them to millions of people.

Though his jokes are "poor taste" most comedians's jokes are in poor taste. You go to a live show that is not televised and f*** is used in every other word. I remember Jerry Lewis' in Vegas used foul language every other word. In the past, anything goes and people laughed. It's a "joke" and nothing more. Politicians & their family used to be a great subject for poor taste jokes. Now we can't do that, we walk on eggshells & everyone has hissy fits. This wasn't meant to be a news broadcast.
