simple solution for all of you who have a problem with her lifestyle:
dont give her money. it is unnecessary to talk trash about people that dont have the resources that you do, be it economical or otherwise (such as mental and emotional illnesses)
and for all of you so called good hearted christians that have beef with this life style, i have a question for you WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

I'm a sidewalk performer which is a set of skills entertaining people for tips, I would never BEG for money its degrading. She could also work under the table for cash and food handing of menues for local restaurants I do that when I can I can get for a few hours of work $20 cash and a days food or fly an advertising sign for a business for cash that would be good to.
Yep, I got approached AGAIN by another panhandler who was walking around the Wal-Mart lot asking everyone for a dollar to buy food for her kids. Then she made the fatal mistake of asking me...I told her that every church in this city has a food pantry, and to force the dad(dad's) to take the kids. She then asked someone else using the same "line" and all he did was to give her 2 bananas! Way to go Banana Man!!

I WAS on food stamps, etc, I found a job and turned it back in to Social Services! I decided to get off my ass and get a stinking job! @xThexLionxWithxWeed4 Be sure that if you decide to join the military that you go to the library and check out any practice guides for the ASVAB...(The Armed Services Vocational Apptitude Battery). That is a test that they give you to see where your strengths and weakneses are so that they can figure out what type of job that you would succeed best in...I took it, and even though I only served 1 "stint"in USAF I am now in that same career field for 22 years. Best wishes.
Notice the large cross hanging on her necklace? One of the tricks of the trade. Throw a little bit of religion-of Jesus out there and it helps to drum up the sympathy and gives a feeling that the panhandler is a good Christian.

If your gonna panhandle in a city like Minneapolis, do somethin for it. We're a very entertainment/art orientated community. Sing, play music, do sketches, tell storys, pretend you can read palms or somethin.
As someone who has panhandled before, I can understand. I once stood on a street corner with a sign for 14 hours just to get a hot meal. I consider myself a modern day gypsy. I'll gamble for some money, I'll play music, I'll even tell a story if there's money to be gained, even just a quarter.
@Raidenko91 school is overrated, well college is anyways. right out of high school i got a job at a roofing company, they started me at 12 bucks an hour, that was 4 years ago. I'm now a craftsman making 17 bucks an hour and within the next 10 years i will be a master craftsman making 30 bucks an hour. When i work out of town i get paid double so i make 34 bucks an hour, my dad only makes about 25 bucks an hour but he is salery though and he paid a shit load of money on collage

I noticed many homeless people smoke, and cigarettes these days cost about $5 a pack, if you can afford that you can afford food. The worst I've seen is homeless people with dogs, now that really pisses me off because if you can afford to take care of an animal you should be able to take care of yourself. She should get a 2nd job especially if she is a single mom.
she just needs to take a bath and do what every other poor girl does... get a boyfriend, live with him for a while, make sure to lie about taking the pill, then proceed to leave him, take the kid and his money for the next 18 or even 23 years all while getting a new boyfriend and being on welfare forever.. im sure you wont feel so poor at that point, come to the bronx youll be hard pressed not to see this in almost every part of it and NY, cali, texas, fl, the list goes on (i travel).

I think by "two children" she means her drug addiction. There is now way she can work 30-50 hours a week, pan-handle every day, and have time for her "kids."
If you can't afford children, give them to people who can. I would be ashamed if my mother was panhandling on the street. No need to make your children suffer from hunger or neglect, give them up to social service agencies until your solid on your feet. Sometimes you need to hurt in order to feel better.

In my town there are able-bodied young panhandlers everywhere. One pair who live in a camper near my house have pictures of thier poor little baby on thier sign... but funny as I see them walk all around my nieghborhood together there is never a baby anywhere. I might be a cabinet maker, but when I ran out of work, I went to work at a pizza joint for minimum wage
If you are picky it is hard. If you are desperate and want to feed your kids you can always find a job flipping burgers or working at Walmart. I've worked many undesirable jobs that no one else would want. If I was her I would be spending my time filling out job applications and/or getting job skills/schooling. In the mean time she can get food from food banks and churches. If it takes 2 jobs then so be it. Oh, and my kid would get food before I would get cigarettes.
In alot of places in America it is hard to find any job... flipping burgers or being a cashier. My boyfriend has applied at everything including Taco Bell... Pizza Hut... Gas stations... he doesn't discrimnate yet they are not hiring in my small town and the closest *big* town is an hour away, and we have no gas to get there.

@frickinmatchbox I have already read Nickel and Dimed. Not only have I read it I have lived it. I also know people who have children who work these type of jobs to support their children. I know exactly where this woman's coming from. This is all over our nation, and people NEED to have MORE compassion and not spit or throw trash at these people! Sometimes they don't have someone like a friend or family member to turn to for help, so it leads them to more drastic measures in SURVIVAL. Sure, I know some people are out there using the money for drugs/alcohol, but there are some that are NOT. Let these people be and pray for them.

@ripleyLV426 I am very sensitive to people who panhandle because I used to panhandle on the NYC subway while I was in college. I did it because my family was on welfare and they could not afford to give me money for college or anything. Nobody can live on what they give on welfare. I made $150 a day in 6 hours and it allowed me time to study. I would use the money to pay for school and my living expenses. Eventually I got a job and I gave to the homeless. I gave back what I took.
why didn't you do like others ? work part time , grants and school ? Living expenses ? why didn't you live at home and go to college ? where did you go to college and when ? how much per credit hour and what did you study ?

I'm hoping I can sell my furnishings and get money that way. But I'm not sure how much longer I can hold on. Expecting to last another month b4 I end up in the car. I'm now a craftsman making 17 bucks an hour and within the next 10 years i will be a master craftsman making 30 bucks an hour. When i work out of town i get paid double so i make 34 bucks an hour, my dad only makes about 25 bucks an hour but he is salery though and he paid a shit load of money on collage

I noticed many homeless people smoke, and cigarettes these days cost about $5 a pack, if you can afford that you can afford food. The worst I've seen is homeless people with dogs, now that really pisses me off because if you can afford to take care of an animal you should be able to take care of yourself. In my town there are able-bodied young panhandlers everywhere. One pair who live in a camper near my house have pictures of thier poor little baby on thier sign... but funny as I see them walk all around my nieghborhood together there is never a baby anywhere. Sooner or later you realize that people who are okay with begging and are not looking for work are all the same in some regard. I might be a cabinet maker, but when I ran out of work, I went to work at a pizza joint for minimum wage

If you are picky it is hard. If you are desperate and want to feed your kids you can always find a job flipping burgers or working at Walmart. I've worked many undesirable jobs that no one else would want. If I was her I would be spending my time filling out job applications and/or getting job skills/schooling. In the mean time she can get food from food banks and churches. If it takes 2 jobs then so be it. Oh, and my kid would get food before I would get cigarettes.

Gas stations... he doesn't discrimnate yet they are not hiring in my small town and the closest *big* town is an hour away, and we have no gas to get there.

I know exactly where this woman's coming from. This is all over our nation, and people NEED to have MORE compassion and not spit or throw trash at these people! Sometimes they don't have someone like a friend or family member to turn to for help, so it leads them to more drastic measures in SURVIVAL. Sure, I know some people are out there using the money for drugs/alcohol, but there are some that are NOT. Let these people be and pray for them.

panhandeling someones emotions is robbing. the news did a expo on panhandlers ... most are addicts. one was a guy from the burbs driving an SUV .. would at the end of the day walk to his new SUV , change into dress clothes and go home.
hey , my brother who was missing a limb thought of pan handeling before he passed away at 36. the average income from panhandling ? around 2 to 3 hundred a day.
so why would she want a regular job ? addiction is expensive. who's watching her kids ?

@ripleyLV426 I am very sensitive to people who panhandle because I used to panhandle on the NYC subway while I was in college. I did it because my family was on welfare and they could not afford to give me money for college or anything. Nobody can live on what they give on welfare. I made $150 a day in 6 hours and it allowed me time to study. I would use the money to pay for school and my living expenses. Eventually I got a job and I gave to the homeless. I gave back what I took.
