Because this type of billiard is called three cushion, in which players aim to hit both yellow and red ball with the cue ball after it hits three cushions. Therefore there are no pockets, unlike 8 or 9 ball.

He's not defying anything in physics, it's just a through knowledge of geometry, physics (amount of kinetic energy needed) and trigonometry (spin or english if you will that would deal with tangents) to get the CB to react in exactly the manner he wishes it to.

Hit placement on the cueball (round surface) IS considered a tangent solution which is in the realms of trigonometry. The angle at which he wishes the ball to follow in relation to the rail etc. is a 2 dimension geometric solution. Force is control of kinetic energy. All of the above is learned through practice BUT can be explained in terms of mathematical terms.

Have you ever played three cushion game or attempted trick shots?  I do both aswell as nine ball, snooker and eight ball pool. You don't sit down and do an equasion before each shot, you just learn how the ball will react when struck in different places and at what force, i appreciate it can be explained via the rules of maths, but who cares (besides you)? The man is a genius and makes it look unreal and will prob never be bettered, now go play with your scientific calculator geek

2) elasticity of the rails

3) temperature

4)texture and hardness of the leather tip, the weight and density of the stick, speed at which it is stroked (how much kinetic energy is transferred to the cueball...
