Holla! Have you tried intellectus 424 diet (just google it)? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy lost crazy amounts of weight with it.
I like how he says, "A little bit of hard work." Yeah, I'm sure it was really hard for him. Chet could do stuff in a coma that I couldn't do if I practiced for 100 years. He was Mr. Smooth.
I get a kick out of the reponses. Chet will always be a looked at as a great player.i have worked on a little bit of his style in the past.knowing jazz phrasing will help you. play some of his material.
He couldn't have picked a better sideman than Paul Yandell. Paul knows Chet's stuff inside and out. He's still around too. Still playing great guitar.
Chet could do it all...This composition was from Jerry Reed, who co-composed the 12-bar shuffle that was the title of Chet's Grammy nominated "Teen Scene" in 1964.
Both songs share a 12-bar measure, similar melody lines, and that lovely diminished chord after bar #8.
This one's a toe tapper, whilst "Teen Scene" is outright rock n' roll...Other than that, compare them. They're both fantastic !
sweeping, too. Many of the techniques that are deemed to be 'new', like speed and sweeping techniques, etc were around since the '20's. Listen to this guy of course, but start with Blind Blake, then listen to Les Paul in the '50's from his show with Betty Ford. Also, If you can find it, listen to George Pritchett. If I can't find anything on here, I will post some.
hahah... I think I know what I was thinking I thought I thought, you know?? Betty wailed like crazy when she was drunk. Anyway, check out Pritchett, he was a monster. I took lessons from him in the 60's, he played with Buddy Rich.
@mka800 I hear ya. At least half this stuff can't be done on any of my instruments. Well... At least not by me, and I don't usually consider myself a slouch. Chet truly was one of the few. I hope he's up there jammin' with Robert Johnson and the rest of the old boys now.
Actually "Progressive Pickin' " isn't a rare LP. Among the rarest are: The Best Chet Yet (on Sesac label), and And Then Came...Chet Atkins on French RCA label. Those 2 LP's go for hundreds of dollars. In fact, there was a And Then Came..Chet Atkins LP that sold on ebay a couple months ago for $4,000!
The U.S. LP's are fairly easy to find and locate especially with ebay, Amazon, and Record Dealers. It ususally sells for $10/$15.
@musicrowbum i'm not a big country fan, but chet atkins was an amazing player, but i am an ENORMOUS les paul fan, so i applaud you for chester and lester
One of Chet's rarest LP's was Progressive Pickin' done at RCA in the mid sixties. Full of straight ahead jazz and to this day my most prized position. Chet signed it for me once and made the comment that he had forgotten that he had made this record and said he'd like to get back into jazz. And he did upon retiring from RCA...I miss this good man and his music every day of my life.

the only problem I see is that the blues are supposed to make you feel sad...and the way Chet plays it, I can't help but smile.
berkeleyhome 2 years ago
not all blues are sad blues. Listen to some Chicago blues.
gamergeek3000 2 years ago
the blues doesn't make you feel sad, it gives you spirit through the saddest and hardest times.

Chet still teaches his fellow guitarists.
He is an eternal artist.

I think Chet's playing notes that aren't on my guitar. Maybe I'd find them if I played for about sixty more years.

Yeah and the only man who had all those notes is gone, so now we're all screwed. Chet was beyond words. RIP. Entertain heaven.

I miss my "Atkins Travis Travelling Show", or my daddy's "Chester & Lester"...
(sniffle)
Sadly, both prob'ly went through a Nashville Goodwill or Salvation Army, circa. '93.
(Wife #3, Divorce #2.)
I can hope they died and went to Great Escape!

Yes. Gibson launched a Chet Atkins model. It´s quite similar to the Scotty Moore model. Both with P90 pups, but the Scotty Moore has no Bigsby.
