  • Very disappointing that the clip ends before the music finishes.

  • He was 19, folks. 19. What a gifted man.

  • lotsa cuts in this version of the third mov't... love this whole piece though.

  • maravilloso

  • If this were shown now, people would scream and applaud every 30 seconds--and some judge would vote him down.

We have all participated in making us an "America's Got Talent" world. Shame!

  • I just love the ease of his playing, and the softness, compared to Heifetz.

  • those r some big ass hands. he must have cancer

  • Wspaniały koncert i takież wzkonanie.

  • wow, he really was amazing even then!

  • 2:27

Taking his 5th finger off of his bow....my private teacher always yells at me if I do that.

  • @ctgartland If Itzhak Perlman wants to make a violin carved out the bones of children to play how he does, then he gets to do it.

  • @Rpkist77 Being the best violinist in the world has its advantages then...

  • @ctgartland itzhak perlman always puts his pinky off the bow when he does sautille.

  • he didn't make a single mistake during this one, did he?

  • @nblBer No he didn`t. He is simply amazing!

  • he really has an angel face and plays so so well thank you for this video

  • how somebody can dislike this?? Are they retards or what?!

  • Amazing!!!!!! It is interesting to think that no one knew at that time, he would become the greatest violist ever seen. Way to go Itzhak, We all love your music!

  • Your technique is somewhat average, keep practicing and I'm sure you'll be almost as good as me someday.

  • @Jimistroll lmfao

  • @Jimistroll are you being serious lol?

  • @zidaneguy55 did you read his name?

  • @Jimistroll You're silly.

  • The way he holds the bow is like it's very light as a feather. Amazing!

  • indisputable king of violin jew boy

  • Considering his age and what he had endeavored to accomplish; it really is rather queer that he can play such a prone and abstract an instrument -- one with such potential for terms of opprobrium and various inherent imperfections -- yet he does it so flawlessly; with such personality, grace, conviction and artistry. This goes beyond being a musician. Neither Wieniaswky nor anyone else for that matter could have predicted this level of interpretation of notes written on a page or staff.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano please relax. show so maturity for the "adolescent." and go back on topic to izthak perlman.

  • Itzhak Perlman was a showman from the very beginning. Michael Rabin, who also studied with Galamian, was equal to Perlman technically, but musically superior. Rabin, who idolized Heifetz, avoided showing off & always played with good posture. Perlman was always fun to watch because he made violin playing look easy, whereas Heifetz made it look & sound like serious business. Perlman shines with his flamboyant bowing & far reaching fingers & ease at harmonics. Notice how high his thumb extends.

  • This is Perlman at his best, long before he began making funny faces & hot-dogging scales & arpeggios. Around this time people were amazed to see a paraplegic play the violin as though he were Paganini. In some ways having to use crutches came to Perlman's advantage. He developed powerful hands for 1 thing. Also, notice how the violin's neck fits into his left hand. He has extended reach which greatly enhances his ability to play octaves & beyond. Playing the violin was always very easy for him!

  • @unclejuniorsoprano ye, because he's a motherfucking beast on the violin, and u're not. he's just a genius and he is at his best even now, funny faces & hot-dogging scales & arpeggios come from experience.

  • @MrDeepEnough You write so eloquently. Are you a graduate of Julliard, perhaps you went to clown college? More than likely you're a troubled teen who cannot be reasoned with. What you know about music can be put in a thimble, & there'd still be room enough for the Chinese army. Funny faces are totally unnecessary & should be reserved for the circus. You of all people ought to know that, because you're one of the biggest Bozos on this page. Show off what you know about violin playing.

  • @MrDeepEnough Why do you call yourself "MrDeepEnough" ? How deep is enough? Obviously, you are either a scuba diver or oil driller. Please enlighten me. Also, I'd love to read one of your brilliant music reviews on Mr. Perlman, who is probably not as deep as you. I just wrote one, but I'm sure a genius such as yourself will really show me up. After all, you're oh so very deep!

  • @unclejuniorsoprano everything ok man? what's your problem with my name? i was just sayin'. and sorry if i'm not a graduate of julliard, but actually i don't even have money to pay my violin lessons. so stay cool.

  • @MrDeepEnough As for your name, it would be perfect if you are a man like the great John Holmes; a man whose life could only be measured in inches. As for your inability to pay for music lessons, do yourself & the neighbors a big favor & give up music entirely.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano i have no idea who is john holmes, i don't care, and anyway, who are you to tell me to give up music entirely? and "inability to pay for music lessons" ? lol man are you stupid or what? i DON'T HAVE money. not every1 is like you. anyway only to say it, i'm 15 years old, i play violin since i was 5, actually i think you're kinda older than me, but with no brain.

  • @MrDeepEnough Look here, you little runt. This isn't the whining page & it's high time for you to stop making excuses for your pitiful self & grow up. You are coddled by your parents who are neglectful of you. You are very rude & insultive; you can dish it out but can't take it. GROW UP!

Enough of you. I didn't know I was dealing with a kid. Your parents need to be monitoring your behavior until you grow up. You say things that you are not responsible for.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano hmm, you have some problems ._.

  • @MrDeepEnough You are obviously having trouble with adolescence, but that's another matter entirely. This is Perlman's page & should deal with violin playing, not the trials & tribulations of a troubled youth. You obviously know very little about music & simply want to mark your territory like some stray. You whine about not having enough money for music lessons. Do you think the world owes you a living? Stop feeling sorry for yourself & grow up. Life is NOT for sissies.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano i repeat, you have some problems ._. it is interesting that you have invented a mountain of crap about me without knowing me. now just finish it, and go to argue with someone else

  • @MrDeepEnough You can begin by attempting to say something important on this page re: Perlman. Obviously you care more about your vanity than about the artist at hand. You will probably find someone closer to your own ilk on a rap page. The challenge you pose on this page is that of a child, as you simply have nothing significant to say, nor do you have an inquiring mind. Your satyrical sounding YT name & childlike mentality indicates that you'd be happier watching Ron Jeremy play the piano.

  • @MrDeepEnough Who taught you to swear like that? You say you don't have enough money for music lessons. That's because your parents are divorced & you're living with mommy. If you had a father, you wouldn't be using that kind of language, & you wouldn't be left unmonitored on the computer.

Does your mother know what a filthy mouth you have?

Try reading my comments re: Perlman & write one of your own, IF YOU CAN. You are the reason for PL 94-142 & IDEA. Do you ride the short bus to school?

  • i am the 222,222nd viewer, COOL!

  • cant*

  • im in 5th year and tried this for fun but 10 slower but its a failure i can play this but the video rocks the song too

  • Look at those good strongs hands, and the sound they create! He was always great, and will always be.

  • @elainebmack

Perlman can produce such a beautiful tone perhaps because of his "unfortunate" disability. His hands are used for walking so they must be different from the others. It's Act of God!

  • He's like a Guitar Hero...only for violin :-p

  • ese perlman es un virtuoso!!!!...

  • i really wich that violinist culd play on tv now days. nowdays its just singing fagot on tv whole days.

  • it's too bad classical music is never aired like this on primetime night shows nowadays.

  • @Sarzz515 yeah... everyone love lady gaga stupid music

  • @Sarzz515 thanks The Beatles for that

  • When Itzhak was young... hmmm...

  • Yes I know that thank you for giving me the correct spelling of Poliomyelitis. I enjoy his music, he really is a genius. The question though, was: is he standing? I cant tell, and since he has polio, that would be near impossible. Just asking for clarification.

  • Is he standing?

  • @zidaneguy55 At the age of four years he fallen ill with poliomyelitis. He could be cured, but it depends on the result of the illness, that he must go on crutches and plays so in the seat.

  • His hand is so big! you would think it would be hard to play with such a large hand but he makes it look so easy. :)

  • I don't know how many people know that his movement is limited due to a skirmish with polio as a child.

  • @JadeWeapon

for those of you that may be confused like i was at first, insert a comma or semicolon after 'how' so it read 'I don't know how; ... he had polio as a child' :P but to answer MrJohnyViolin, no he's not.

  • Young & Beautiful,Bold,Confident..and Shy..:-)

    Bravo ITZHAK PEARL-MAN !!!

  • he was 19 y o when he played it

  • Wieniawski's spelled wrong here.

  • yup

  • how old is he here?

  • I wonder if he plays staccato with wrist movement only. His forearm looks being fixed!

  • are you talking about his sautille? I don't hear much staccato in this at all, and it looks fine to me, and the sautille is supposed to be played with the wrist movement only, because it's so fast. i suppose i don't quite understand the comment?

  • Sorry! I'm not an expert but when I compare the playing of spiccato by other violinists like Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh,..., they did not fix their forearm even for the notes on the same string. Am I correct?

  • Um. It could be that because he was so young, he was adjusting his bow arm due to tension when stretching and going into higher positions... I know I do that sometimes. But yes, I see what you mean now.

  • Awesome! I'm amazed how talented can be a person!

  • Excellent single!!! 100**Pinkis

    Martín

  • I miss Ed Sullivan! .."It's a reealy good sheeoow tonite".......Itzhak is amazing!..one of the best violinists ever in my book!!!..so all the great musicians started either on Sesame Street, or Ed Sullivan back then, eh?

  • haha still, his hands are exactly the same, they havent changed a bit =)

  • o.O

  • Are you too lazy to spell ''Wieniawski'' correctly ?

  • He has mad violin skills! Crazy Itzhak...

  • lol, all the countries and Canada....

  • all over the country** and canada, so just those two he was refering to lol. but anyway..

he was this good at this age... sadly this is one of the things that has the reverse effect of inspiring lol.. i feel like there's no hope for me when he was already way better than me.. YOUNGER than me.. D=

  • Someone asked for recommendation: try Stefan Milenkovich. He works shoulder to shoulder with Perlman on Juilliard.

  • Perlman plays the notes very cleanly. At the beginning, his cadenza is great. And the tempo is good that he can handle ans not too rush.

  • Forgot to add that this is an answer to

    intheknow7. Enjoy :-)

  • eugene ysaye? arthur grumiaux?

    they're pretty good

  • 63 is very old? You must be 20! Just kidding, we are on this earth such a short time you'll see that when you're in your 60's you will feel quite young. Age is a state of mind. Many classical musicians play into their 70's 80's and even 90's. While age may take away some of the facility and agility of youth it can often provide for a deeper understanding of music and transcendentally emotional performances. Experience is a great thing.

  • Age is not a state of mind when looking at hot 20 year olds makes you the village perv.

  • Fellow UTubers: Can u recommend other violinists on the level of Heifetz, Milstein, Issac Stern or Yitzchak Perlman? Trying to broaden my tastes - easy to get locked into favs.

    Tx in advance.

  • David Oistrakh, Yehudi Menuhin, Henryk Szeryng, Michael Rabin, Gidon Kremer, Pinchas Zukerman

You can also listen to Joshua Bell, Maxim Vengerov and Hilary Hahn, they are much younger

  • Hillary Hahn

  • I he still Alive alive today???

    i'm just asking.,.,

  • yes he is still alive

  • no one better.

  • Paganini said once, that Wieniawsky ist second in Violin world. He didn't say who is 1:)

  • Actually Paganini was asked who does he think is the better violinist, himself or Wieniasky. Paganini replied, " I don't know who the first is but I assure you Wieniawsky is second'. It was a pun meaning himself as the best. Which he most certainly was.

  • Your are right - now I remember it exactly. Thanks:)

  • it looks like hes....STANDING?! O_O no right?

  • Impossible. Unfortunately he can't

  • such an incredible talent Perlman has.

  • yeah i agree

  • With no ending.. :(

  • perfect..! :O

  • It's NOT Wieniaskwy but Wieniawski Co.2 He was a polish composer. Just for the record

  • To be more precise, a Polish-Jewish composer

  • In the Polish-Jewish context it is. Has been for 800 years, like it or not.

  • Put it this way: the Poles consider Artur Rubinstein and Henryk Wieniawski to be great Polish musicians, but Shmul Rubinstein and Itzhak Wieniawski are yids.

  • szering was jew to dude, why do you think he went running to mexico??? xD, inform your self before talking

  • Huh? Where did that come from? There are lots of East European Jewish violinists, and very few of them play on roofs. My grandfather was one, apparently a fellow-student of the great Bronislaw Huberman.

    And it's Szeryng, btw.

Oh, and by trade I'm an historian specializing in East European Jews with a PhD and 3 international prizes for my book, so anytime you want me to inform you, I'd be happy to oblige.

  • it's not fair man...it's just not fair :)

Some of us are born to play the violin, some of us have to work our bottoms off just to keep a decent pitch for the first years!!!

Even at that age..... clear tones, bowing and shifts.... well for my untrained ears at least....

  • And the amazing thing is that his style has not changed all that much over 40 years later!

  • To me, the amazing thing is, that those giant hands, move so swiftly, when in fact, his palm covers the whole extended fingerboard! Not even to mention those thick fingers spitting out 16th notes with such ease.... pfff : P

  • Everyone sees something different in the same clip...I see beautiful hands, incredible control, precise fingering and a magnificent focus that is epitomized by those long, powerful fingers...I am glad we can both appreciate the gift we have witnessed in our own ways.

  • ITZHAK PERLMAN ROCKS!!!!!!

  • now i know how Jimmy Kimmel will look like in the future. By the way, Perlman is my man..... too good to be true!

  • wow.. 10+

  • He looks like Jimmy Kimmel

  • lol...good call...

  • Perlman is a "full house"--he does have a killer bow arm, but he has all of the other traits observed below--the opulent vibrato, which is vital--the dead on intonation, the intelligence and the artistic qualities that together make up a master violinist. There is a unique quality in his tone and vibrato; and since many of the great teachers recommended that we use the fleshy part of the finger for vibrato that may indeed be speculation for part of tone-hands are part of the instrument

  • You couldnt have said better !

  • i love that each musician is "born" with a sound, you cannot duplicate.

  • Ooh,what a wonderful concerto !!!!!!!!!

  • i reckon his hands were that size from when he was born and the rest of him is only now catching up in size

  • Tu es un ROI Itzhak ! Depuis le début !

    Marc Tettiravou.

  • he had amazing self-confidence at such a young age. Actually fleshy finger TIPS are helpful as they do make a richer tone, with boney finger tips it is more difficult-yet getting the fingers in good and tight on the finger board for flats and sharps if you have very heavy fingers can be difficult-shorter fingers have their problems too. It's a very individualized process

  • I really have to agree. As a player with big fingers (long and fleshy), I've definitely had a different process learning to play than shorter fingered players. I have to say, once I got over the problems with getting the chromatics to fit, I really enjoy my big hands and fleshy finger tips! Great for getting that nice warm, round tone that I feel is missing from a lot of those skinny fingered players' sound :P

  • I guess you just look for where your blessings are and count them! I always figured these people who were double jointed were extra blessed with vibrato but I decided to stop looking at what other people have and start looking at my own pluses..much of mine come from inside, my determination and stubborness to make my little hands do what seems impossible for them to do. I am stubborn as HELL.

  • im not so sure i agree about the fingertips entirely, while large fingertips certainly help with vibrato and tone im sure, the bow is where all the magic happens. in his arms, finger pressure etc.

  • My parents were 2 when this happened.

    Creepy.

    But I love it. (:

  • Wilheminas: This was probably done live w/the Ray Bloch Orchestra in the pit. Good group.

  • i have noticed Perlman plays only sitting down. Now correct me if im wrong but is this a way for him to play even more skill fully?

  • he had polio when he was a child, that's why. . .

  • Despite his large fingers he's very agile. I played the violin for years, and had a problem with finger size, because you have to find ways to compensate. His current fingers are like sausages, but he still plays the most beautiful music.

  • wow

so young and already so pro

  • How can you cut this video?? :( This is so beautiful :) Thx for posting it...

  • Was he playing with a taped orchestra?

  • Brilliant.

  • god damn... mr. perlman is lucky to have such huge hands. that must have really helped.

  • It's beneficial on one hand but on others it's a hindrance. Playing in higher positions with large fingers can cause problems with intonation. Ideally one should have long, slender fingers.

  • hmmm, actually for string players, it's best to have fleshy fingertips, rather than slender fingers. the tone would be much fuller.

  • fleshy fingertips have nothing to do with slender fingers. slender fingers = skinny fingers that don't get in the way with each other; one can have slender fingers with fleshy fingertips.

  • Perlman hands have some ups and downs. He has very fleshy fingers which give him a very rich sound, plus he has enormous hands so big stretches are much easier. However fingers that thick must make it much harder to play in tune, having to move them out of the way more than normal for half-steps especially in the high registers, but he obviously has no problems playing in tune.

  • This is exactly what happens to me cause I have large fingers. I have to slide my first finger down the fingerboard on the E string away form the F# in oder to play the G natural with my 2nd finger. Sometimes it happens with G# and A 2nd and 3rd finger on the E string. None of the other strings give me problems, because the wrist is rotated a little more and the fingers are more parallel to the fingerboard when I play the other strings. Good observation on your part!

  • i wonder why is Bach Beethoven and Mozart are the most famous composer oh and Vivaldi triavosky when it comes to orchrestra.

  • Often, I think, it's because their music was revolutionary for the time.

  • hmmm.. good point

  • he looks like he's standing

  • he would be phisicly incapable of standing

  • that's so awesome

  • this is not 2nd violin concerto of wieniawski:S

  • You are an idiot.

  • I counter that... You are an idiot...

  • It is surely the 3rd movement of the 2nd violin concerto of Wieniawski

  • oh oke:P... I play the first movement:P... but it's the 3th:P..... thanks man

  • You´re most welcome. Good luck with 1st movement, enjoy the 3rd when you get there.

  • I love his stage prescence- it's so full of... I don't know, compassion! Not like Vengerov's orgasm thing he has going on.

  • Ahh no other fifteen year old violinist can beat itzhak perlman when he was fifteen. There really is no comparison.

  • umm no.... there are amazing 14 year old pupils nowadays.

  • I would love to see how Hitler would react with that shoved in his ass of a face.

  • -__- thank you for the biography butadujo...

  • he is full of confidence like he says "this is a piece of cake" and it really is for him:) absolutely brilliant from young age!

  • ah, itzhak perlman. writer of the chairmans waltz, and host of a yearly camp for coming of age violinists. great man, and owner of an extremely rare stradivari violin i must add.

  • itzhak perlman is not the writer of the chairmans waltz, john williams is

  • Puede haber empezado a los cinco años... pero parece que nunca hubiera tocado mal!!!

  • Ginormous hands.

  • should be Wieniawski in title not Wieniaswky

  • Yes, you are correct! I believe that Russians are ...sky, and Polish are ....ski.

  • after all these years of watching perlman play, i still am amazed by his left hand. perfect combination of size and dexterity. it's so massive that he can reach the tough notes easily and make all shifts sound so natural - but absolutely no coordination or accuracy is compromised by the size. amazing

  • hacks

haha jk... IP is someone I aspire to be as a violinist

  • Itzak is best! A true virtuoso, he feels what he plays. .

  • lol he's got the devil's hands!

  • If the devil ever actually goes down to Georgia, this is the guy I want protecting our souls.

  • Man... I wish I could play the violin. He's like REALLY GOOD!

  • Awesome

  • This guy new he came down to earth for only one thing...

  • amazing!

  • he was not quik, he just play on the time from the orchesta

  • One almost never sees this quality of music at that age. Itzhak Perlman has got something real special!
