  • On the ¥10000 Fukuzawa Yukichi who was very influential in embracing western thinking during the Meiji restoration.

  • Some years (7) ago i accept two bills yet $2 never folded.

  • cool vid abt the currencies! do u know if older versions of currencies are still accepted? I have a couple of 1963 itoh hirobumi 1000 yens. BTW i think the new 1000 y ur holding now is hideyo noguchi

  • Apparently another way to help Japan (albeit obscure but funny) iswww. myconfinedspace. com/wp-content/uploads/tdomf/198357/qydn2.jpg

  • You're a good guy, Jason. Hope your contributing argonauts' money can extract a smile and a flicker of hope from such splintered-out devastation. I would just go nuts. I'm glad you're not like me and are back in Japan.

  • Cool video! The thread feeling in the dollar is because it's made from cotton and linen.

  • In Britain our notes increase in size, as value increases, Such as £5 is smaller then £10, which is smaller then £20 which is smaller then £50, so I don't know if it has anything to do with that :)

  • This might be a bit of a random question, but since the bills are a bit bigger in japan, are japanese wallets bigger? Since my american bills just fit in my wallet, any more and they'd probably rip or fold a lot from sticking out

  • @GrayXIII I bought my current wallet in America and it just fits the Japanese notes, so you might want to get a new wallet when you get here, since they are built to accommodate the larger notes

  • Whenever I go to Japan my bank here in Australia usually gives me about half my money in 2000 yen notes. One lady at a small stall at a shrine/temple (can't remember which) once refused one, and now I'm too scared to use them in shops and usually rely on the few train ticket and vending machines that accept them. Haha.

  • I've been in Japan for almost a year and had no idea a 2MAN bill existed! Neato!

  • I already subbed to P4J =D

    Thanks for sharing..

Are you in the same apartment as last time?

  • @markshmily I find out this month if I can keep this apartment - I think I'll be able to stay, but should confirm by the end of the month

  • Ichiyo Higuchi is author.1872-1896

  • I'm pretty sure the bird on the back of the ichi man note is a phoenix

  • All of my UK notes are a different size depending on the amount. They've been that way for as long as I can remember. I think £5 and £10 used to be the same size.. but I can't remember for sure if they were or not :|

  • I'm not Discouraged... I still really want to go to Japan ^^... Hopefully Nothing can stop me ;D... ( If i get accepted as a JET ) But college comes first...

  • Funny my Japanese Teacher got married and Moved to San Diego.. She was probably there..

  • All paper American money is the same :) The UK, Europe and a lot of other countries have now started changing their money size based on value to help with those with visual disabilities. I personally think they are easier to use on a regular basis as well.

  • OMG, I'm so glad to see you here...I was so worried since I love your videos and glad you are safe. Seeing the news of the devastation is horrible since my brother is in Japan also.

  • thank you for the partners4japan link! :D

  • @chuchuchie douitashimashite - thanks for clicking over and checking it out

  • Just read the story about here and it made me cry.

  • Thanks for working for victims in Japan.

We feel sorry for Jets we lost.

  • Thanks for the update!

  • 5000 yen is Ichiyo Higuchi. 10000 is Fukuzawa Yukichi.

  • That's actually Hideyo Noguchi on that particular 1000 yen bill. From Fukushima (oh yeah!) I might add. Soseki is on the 1000 yen before 2004.

  • @NikkeinJapan ahh - darn. Got it wrong. Oh well, thanks for the correct info!

  • Same for europe higher the note the bigger the piece of paper it's printed on>

    - 1 and 2 cent coins in just a few countries still used

    then you get

    - 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.50, 1.00, 2.00 coins

    - 5, 10, 20, 50 everywhere accepted notes

    - 100 and 200 almost never accepted only by banks

    - 500 never accepted only in banks

Some countries have memorabilia coins for special occasions these usually cost more than they are worth: like the 5 euro Dutch coin costs 7,50 to buy. These are all limited

  • @NaruXD here in Canada, they're all the same size(like US). We had 2$ in paper couple years ago, but it's a coin now.

Mexican money have different size if i remember correctly(some are longer and larger).
