James Newton Howard... I LOVE him since PEter Pan came out. His music is breathtaking and true! Defiance was amazing!!! I haven't disliked any of his compositions yet... and I don't think I ever will!!!
I love James newton howards work so much! Wich i could buy (or download) all of hsi tracks at once, wana listen to it more then just youtube xD. It's just so good!
Can anyone tell me the name of the composer or even the movie this song was originally in??? Youtube won't let me put in the weblink to the youtube video, but if you seach "Go by Jackie Pullinger" <- it's the music playing this background! It's bugging me so much.
I'm not sure if it's James Howard Newton or hans zimmer or who!
PEOPLE - Hans Zimmer & John Williams are both amazing composers - if you listen to their stuff, a lot of it sounds similar e.g for John Williams, it's Superman & Star Wars (i think their both ingenious, but you've got to admit, they do sound a bit similar!) and for Hans Zimmer an example is POTC Gladiator (again, both amazing, but they do sound similar). so PLEASE stop fighting about them - they are both fantastic composers, neither are overrated. NOW James Newton Howard - he's amazing too!! x
Well, John isn't because he kind of wrote music for some of the most successful films in history, so he deserves good recognition. And I HATE Hans Zimmer's music, he is definitely overrated.
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Atlantis! :D @Winduct and Danny Elfman, Philip Glass, Harry Gregson-Williams, Dario Marianelli, James Horner, John Powell, Klaus Badelt, Thomas Newman, Craig Armstrong, Howard Shore, Clint Mansell, Alan Menken, Alan Silvestri and of course John Williams. Just saying... James Newton-Howard and Hans Zimmer aren't the only good composers, y'know. Tbh, they're a bit overrated, well, Zimmer is.
Another thing: what was the title of the track you used from Atlantis? I've been listening to tracks from the cd on this site and none of them carry that glorious theme you've included in this medley.
Atlantis was a terrible film, but Howard is ever so dependable. His score for it is amazing. Also, the more I listen to his score on Peter Pan the more I love it. And I Am Legend was so beautifully sad. I almost want to see Perfect Murder from Howard's work alone.
I love him..first listened to the THE VILLAGE soundtrack and had been overwhelmed by his talent...very very awesome music,it has this dreamy touch to it :) i'm really into his music! And in my eyes the village was one of his best's..but atleast i like all of them! JNH♥
I love Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Danny Elfman, James Horner, Howard Shore, Bruno Coulais, Yan Tiersen and Tan Dun... but James Newton Howard is my all time favourite, he's stunning!
James Newton Howard remains my favorite composer, and I do have a lot of Hans Zimmer albums too. :) I think Hans Zimmer tends to repeat a lot of his scores more than others, I still love how it brings the power to whatever movie hes doing.
For James, I love how all of his music is different but still the same. I think some of them contrast a lot, like the Blood Diamond soundtrack is one of my faves!
Hans Zimmer is the greatest film composer of all time. Danny Elfman does great work, but his music seems to always be in a specific genre, whereas James Newton Howard has incredible range in regards to styles. John Williams's been living off the fame from Jurassic Park, Star Wars, & Indiana Jones, & hasn't done anything noteworthy or even pleasant to listen to since. Actually, his greatest soundtrack is for Space Camp - check it out. But he's not the greatest, despite all the undue plaudits.
@ThirdCultureKidTCK Hans zimmer might be great but he is also credited for stuff he didn't have shit to do with: like the blackhawk theme song gortoz a ran. Hans gets inspired by others too, when i listen to the structure of that last Samurai theme song I can clearly hear that he studied adagio for strings properly. So stop sucking dick!
"Lesser artists borrow, great composers steal" - Igor Stravinsky. Come on, Stephen Jablonsky stole the Transformer's theme from Hans Zimmer's Arthur. The Man On Fire soundtrack is a takeoff on the Gladiator theme. Danny Elfman reworks Tchaikowsky. All the classical composers were inspired by their predecessors. It's the nature of the art, nothing particularly shocking.
A Youtuber concending a point - I applaud you, you've proved you're more mature than the majority of commenters.
Of course I entirely disagree with James Horner being put in the same league as anyone, I can't stand most of his work, but to each their own. I'd be remiss to argue with your music tastes or opinions, you're entitled to them. My question is who is your favorite composer? I love discovering new music.
I don' t have a favorite composer because people are simply not that great. I just love certain pieces people have composed over the years. I don't like all of James Horner's stuf either just like I do not like all of hans zimmer' s. If you want to hear some other stuff listen to erik mongrain' s or antoine dufour' s music. Just because your ears love some coposer' s music better does not mean that that person is actually the best out there!
It reminds me vaguely of some of Howard Shore's pieces.
But he definitely has an uncanny way of adding so much pent up emotion to his music, especially the dark and scary stuff. But I wouldn't mind listening to some of his lighter pieces. I do however love what he did with Harvey Two-face's theme in the Dark Knight. Probably my favorite of his works
James also recorded a CD with the Band ToTo, but only with all keyboards in the 1980's. It is a jazzy type fusion recording. It's called James newton Howard and Friends. Anybody ever heard it?
It isn't that I don't love James Newton Howard(I own four of his soundtracks), but he is far from the best. His contributions have been great, but what about American Beauty, Braveheart, Chinatown, Doctor Zhivago, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, High Noon, Jaws, Laura, Lawrence Of Arabia, The Magnificent Seven, The Omen, Planet Of The Apes, Psycho, Schindler's List, Star Wars, or even Titanic? Howard is a new composer to me. Writes good stuff.
If you like the scores of John Williams, you might want to check out
the music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The theme from Star Wars is
a quote from Korngold's film Kings Row.
It was made in the 1940s. One of the stars was Ronald Raegan.
