what you were saying about creativity is very true. i've been drawing since i could pick up a pencil and i use images that i have seen in real life, books, photos, movies. I add to them or combine things together to create creatures or landscapes that to other people will be alien.
Thank you for this. I totally agree with the idea of us only being able to work on what we've already seen. If you ever think about mythical creatures, they're always combinations of several different known animals. Just trying to create something new, you'll find you borrow from everything you already know. It's the same with music. I loved the idea of "loose" drawing (thumbnail example) and could really identified with everything you said. Thanks so much for your advice; it was invaluable.
I have to also add that you have a hell of a talent. It can be pretty mind-boggling watching you throw shapes together, erase and throw back in over and over... and end up with something that looks great.
You have opened my eyes, i have been trying so hard to make something amazing, but now i realize, and now i truly feel that i am one step closer to being a great artist, because of your video, so once again thank you.
anything similar possible on photoshop anyone? not familiar enough with photoshop I really should try out more.. or see some more youtube tutorials :D
I really enjoyed this video. I'm right now finishing up in college as an animation major but my strong point is in concept art. I agree alot with the visual library concept, my art history classes in particular are always floating around in my head and help me to push my concepts to higher levels of quality and creativity. Also watching ya sketch/doodle is very relaxing <3
sorry, you already answered my question in another comment. Please tell me more about your technique - what shortcuts are you using? are you changing the brush slightly (in size or shape) as you go? etc...
I agree with everything you said! its my common belief to that we use what we know to create. everythings already been done. just like in movies. all the stories have been told. its how we tell the stories, is what makes us original.
I've always been told otherwise... It's a sad thing I realized that THIS is what I enjoy more. I think I'll post a second video to my profile later, there you can see the huge difference between my first video and the new one. Like... Before this and after this. Thank you a lot! Keep on rockin', man!
I dunno that we pick up everything from a prior source. Maybe our starting points, but as things develop they gain a sort of internal consistency... their own reality almost, and require (say) a dab of red in this place, a sword in that hand, or an island over there. After a point, the artist is following the whims of the piece and not the other way around.

Hey, me again. :P
I find my problem with the whole visual libary thing is that my memory isent all that great for it.
I understand some people have 'a photographic memory?' in that they can pretty much see the full thing they saw in there head?
In mine i remeber the very basics but forget alot of the details and intresting stuff.
Thats why i tend to always need some kind of viusal stimulation at hand like a photo.
