@MushroomDisorder I bought it a Guitar Center... 4-5 years ago, I paid just over $1,000 for it. I have no idea how much it's going for nowadays! The model number is RBXJM2 - I'm sure you'd find it quickly with a google search.
good job, except the last part where you faltered a bit, though hitting the right notes in right timing. and that's more important - getting the right timing. you stay in the bar, and speed will come to you. keep it up!
I do not have one full tab. I got different parts from different tabs online (back then I just googled "hells kitchen bass tab") and then the parts that I couldn't find decent tabs for, I just figured it out on my own!
A touch clammy on the unison section, but re-harmonizing the last lick in there *totally* makes up for anything else! It would have been great if JM had done so as opposed to following the guitar/keyboard lines note-for-note.
...and why is it that EVERY JM2 sounds better recorded on home setups and YouTube's awful compression than played by JM & recorded/mixed/mastered in professional studios? MP & JP really don't know how to fit him into a mix with their downtuned guitars and 50+ piece kit.
Mike and John don't do the mixing; and if you think this sounds better than Myung in the studio, you are crazy. Although I do agree about the terrible sound quality of YouTube... but of course they are improving with the HD video option.
As far as the sound; I believe it to be due to everything else going on. Some DT songs have more than 20 layers to them; in the sonic field provided by regular stereo sound, the bass has little room to while around amongst everything else in the mix. The reason why we perceive to hear it a lot better through youtube videos is because the bass' sound in laid on top of everything else, full range. Therefore, you're hearing the true sound of the instrument!
I really don't have a tab for this song; I just picked up by ear. There are a few tabs out there that I could find, but most of them were inaccurate or incomplete!
Thank you very much! I love using a six string. Much greater flexibility... but it's all about taste. I also have a four string that I love using - it just depends on what kind of style I'm playing.
great, man! nice bass playing! i'm a bassist, but not as good as you, i'm just a below average bass player, i'm kinda lazy at practicing, anyways, great vid, dude!
nn male c'è un po' da perfezionare più nel tuo modo di suonare che nei pezzi che fai... in ogni caso... la parte l'hai improvvisata tu o ti hanno dato degli spartiti? no perchè sappi che nn è tutta giusta... risp
Ok! so my english is crude too..:-) if you want the sheet i can give you that (my english is terrible i know).. i have that and many more.. like octavarium, universal mind, ecc... if you want reply this comment and i will tell you my e mail address.. sorry for my english.. hello!
you play really bad the most interesting parts... in it's no really difficult, you must find the correct fingering, and you will play it right, and follow the drums when you're play...
It definitely expands your horizons as far as flexibility... the added range allows you to do all kinds of cool stuff; besides looking cool. If you get a chance to get one, I'd highly recommend it!
now im curious, where did you get the music to play the song? i cant find a book or tab thats right for alot of dream theater music or this song and i lov the music but the tabs i find arent even close to being right
Hey! It was actually a combination of several wrong tabs that I corrected myself. I could not find one correct tab either... there are some that are completely off, nothing like the real song whatsoever!! Its a matter of finding one that is close to the real thing, then correcting it yourself by listening to the song...
Man that was great! It's good to see someone who can play bass as well as john myung. It's not easy to play Dream Theater no matter what instrument you play. Again, GEART PLAYING!!!
hey man i wanna say great job on this. this is one of the best videos ive seen on here, and theres alot of crap on this site and this was really good. keep it up.
Yes, thats definetly the best part of the song! That cover of yours must've been cool, I still never managed to find a whole band to play this with... and yeah, this is the RBXJM2... awesome instrument! Thank you for the complement!
good stuff, i covered this song with some guys for a GCSE recital. playing bass. the 16ths bit is always fun... nailed it. nice... is that the yamaha john myung signature 6 string?
great playing dude! i want your bass! try using your little finger for those faster funs, gives you more options! but sure even petrucci doesn't use it most of the time and he's survived 21 years in dream theater! anyway, great playing! that is, if you can understand what i just wrote....
Great job and nice sound!!!
