I think the rough edges of Mellencamp's mature voice keep this song from being too saccharine. Mellencamp lives hardly an hour from where he grew up, as he always has. He has always honored his Indiana roots, and I don't know but what Chesney learned from him that you need to write about what you know to be good.

Search "Mac McAnally" for good versions also. While Kenny is great (I saw him live last year and will see him live this week) and I can't say anything bad about John Mellencamp (everyone has off days), Mac McAnally is a superb songwriter/musician, i higly recommend everyone check him out.
