BTW, if full coverage is an issue for you. Oakley radars let in 0 light and are my all time favorite pair of sunglasses. I have had the same pair since their release and they function exactly the same way they did when I brought them home.
What other sunglasses out there would you say provide better optics and construction of materials? Were the lenses in these glasses polarized or non-polarized? I am a sunglasses junkie. I buy different brands. I'm not a fan of one particular kind, but a lot of Oakley's (not all) are second to none. BTW I am receiving my first pair of polarized flak jackets in a few days so it will be interesting to see if I agree with some of what you are saying.
When you buy Oakleys, you pay some money for the brand, of course. But the materials used in these, and most other Oakleys are better than anything else that you can find. I dont know how long you´ve been using these, but after a year or two, when they still feel and look new after sitting on the ten times and stepping on them, you really appreciate the quality. everyone in the world should have a pair of Oakleys for protection of UVAs, but also for impact prot.
@Charlz9mm I didnt say that either, but you have different types pf plastic, and the plastic used is more expensive and higher quality. My army watch is made from the same plastic and it is unbreakable :)
I am an Oakley guy, and I have some polarized Flak Jackets that I wear often. I respect your opinion, and in fact, they do fit smaller than most sunglasses. But, not all sunglasses are made for everybody... that is why there are thousands of different styles.
man, this is the first somewhat negative review i've seen on ANY oakley's lol. I'm glad you're honest and not just going on hype. So for comparison, how tall/heavy are you? I wanted to pick up a pair of those, but a prescription one. Don't really want to waste all that money if it's not going to fit me right.
I agree with your review and understand why you said what you did about sub par optics. Those who say Oakley's lenses are comparable to some of the best glass lenses on the market have never tried anything but Oakley. Thanks for calling it what it is, a medium grade overpriced product.
They are Oakley Flak Jackets. I'm wondering if you might have got a fake pair, there are a lot of imitations of this model. I mention this is because genuine Oakley sunglasses are well made with high quality optics. Scientific tests have also proven this to be the case. Type "private pilot sunglasses test" into Google and read the results.
I understand that they might not float your boat, we all have different tastes - that's why there's so much choice but they are a high quality product.
@hunt3636 Perhaps since I don't like to be second best. "Ur" are an illiterate. Some studies in grammar are recommended. .........dude. Keep it up and I am telling your mom.....dude.
Charles, you have half of the name of the product your reviewing, and it goes downhill from there. Just about everything you have to say about these runs counter to how most users perceive them. For one, the optics are absolutely the best, bar none.
@petermaynard2 Not my experience with Oaks.... I'd rather go with Julbo or RE than any Oakley you'd give me.... I'd sell a pair of Oaks and buy something else. I've had several models. The closest to an Oakley I liked was the original Jacket, which they no longer make (or really anything like them.) The temple rubber got sticky fast, hinges squeaked, frame whistled on the back of my bike, lenses scratched super easy, just not up to par with glasses half their price.
@TH0M4SGT I got a standart Flaks, i feel like the lenses don't cover the bottom very well, the sun maybe can into for the bottom, i don't know, would you reccommed return it to dealer for XLJ?
@firstjedi Personally, I like XLJ. They fit my face well and they give good coverage. If you are having problems with the coverage, I would definitely look at ones with XLJ. I would try a pair first just to make sure that they actually are giving you more coverage. They do for me, if that makes any difference.
big disagree with the optical quality, is has amazing optics, and you didn't even say one good thing. why don't you look at the inmate or cross-hair from oakley they are pry more your style, and where did you get those glasses, it sounds like you didn't even buy them.
For me personally I like these sun glasses a lot. They are meant for outdoor activity, specifically cycling. The nose pieces are quite helpful when you get sweaty and keep the glasses firmly attached to your face. On style, they are a little bit too audacious for everyday use (i.e. reflective lenses), but that is what Wayfarers are for. The Flak Jacket, for me, is great. They have never failed and the hydrophobic coating on the lenses makes them very easy to clean when taking short breaks.
totally disagree on the optics, mine are perfect to me. and my face really fits the size well. the hinges are ment to be this way when they are folded, and its not a problem when you put them on at all. the anti slip on the nosepiece and the ear places are great for running and cycling.
