I went through this faze when I was obsessed with the Headless Horseman. I watched this and then I read the original story. And I said, "Wow, this is kinda creepy. My parents told me, "You should watch the Tim Burton one." So I did. HOLY CRAP!! The horseman doesn't miss on that one!!!
What I find odd is if you pay attention to the narration Katrina is as "plump as a partridge" yet they make her rather skinny and turn the only chubby woman into someone annoying.
Ichabod shouldn't have looked back after crossing the bridge, then the Headless Horseman wouldn't have thrown his flaming pumpkin at him and he would've lived.
i used to watch this video when i was little and it scared me so bad i couldnt go outside after dark for weeks. i still love this video. i wish cartoons was still like this.
What I really like about the Disney version of this is that they actually got the character design of Ichabod right--straight down to his enormous ears. Even his food-loving habits are taken straight from the actual story.
Doug Walker (aka Nostalgia Critic) brought me here! Yes, he pointed out, that he looked back and thought Ichobod was this innocence who gets attacked. Now he viewed it as an adult and realized that Ichobod is a jerk who wants to marry this girl... for her money and even blithely imagines her father out of the picture. Interesting for Disney, he pointed out. Also, quite true to the original story itself.
@AliaSparrow I actually always noticed that part when I first saw the Disney version around 5th grade--that Ichabod was no innocent. To be honest, I didn't even think Brom nor Ichabod deserved Katrina.
When I first saw the end of this when the Horseman showed up for the last time, I thought it was gonna be carrying ICHOBOD'S head... Now, THAT would scare the living $#1T outa me!!!! D^:

@sparkthespliff Katrina is beautiful, rich, and spoiled. Ichabad (in the written text) thinks she wants this and then she wants that. She is dating Brom Bones before Ichabod comes to town, but likes the attention from other men. Brom Bones dressed up as the Headless Horseman, whom Ichabod truly believed was real, to scare him off and out off Katrina's life.
@sparkthespliff She went back to him in the end. However, at her party, she crushed any chance for a courtship between she and Ichabod, causing him to leave and then be chased by "The Headless Horseman" and run out of town rather than die of embarrassment of rejection. He only wanted her for her many anyway.
@sparkthespliff The full story states that Ichobod left the house exTREMELY depressed. "Was it in fact, that Katrina had been playing the School Master this whole time? Whatever the reason, Ichobod had never felt as miserable as he did then."
In the story I think the answer is yes, in this movie, I don't think so. Ichobod was indeed winning Katrina. Watch Sleepy Hollow by Tim Burton. Its awesome. Just saying. You'll know who gets her then.
@sparkthespliff In the original story the Headless Horseman is depicted as a human and not as a ghost and Irving makes it seem like the Headless Horseman is actually Brom Bones, trying to kill Ichabod to he can marry Katrina, but he never really fully explains this,
@wierdo1232123 "Kill" Ichabod? There's no indication whatsoever that Brom is trying to kill Ichabod -- merely scare him into leaving town. It's basically a high-stakes prank to get the girl. Brom is certainly not murderous.
I have a guess! The Headless Horseman's pumpkin was really magic! When it hit Ichabod, it sent him to a faraway place. And married a rich fat woman and had children that looked just like him!
Katrina?! 0_o That's my name as you can see! How did I miss that?!
Well anyway, I remember seeing this some time ago, I use to think that Brown was pretty much Gaston while Icabod was innocent. Now I see I had things on reverse.
I remember watching this on the disney channel when i was growing up but they don't play this anymore around holloween it stinks, because this was an all time HOWLOWEEN CLASSIC........
I don't begrudge my grade school education, but I think USA state public schools should add local mythology/folklore to the curriculum when teaching about history and/or English Literature. Sure, it's important to know about the liberation of India and the many works of William Shakespeare, but what about our own, small-town histories?
I've watched this three times already this week and it gets better every time. Great story, classic Disney animation, Bing's narration is so familiar- like he's been telling this story for decades, and the visual gags are perfect. The whole thing's here- Happy Halloween!!
I'm a hardcore geek and even I think Ichabod is a wiener. Kind of a douche too.. I used to like him when I was a kid.. now I'm kinda glad he lost. He was entirely too interested in her ....assets. lol Also you gotta know that the horseman was his rival in disguise... totally... I don't doubt that one second.
OMGOMGOMG that song where hes singing about the headless horseman, around 21:40 i saw that scene a million times in this Disney Halloween special they showed at my ES & i nvr knew it was the Sleepy Hollow!
If you think about the first song and the song Ichabod whistles through the forest. It sounds just like Cinerella's A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.
This was always one of my favorite Disney cartoons, and as I got older and realized how amazing it is! I mean, Bing Crosby is definitely one of the best actors and no doubt one of the best singers of all time!
Thank you so much for putting this up! My family watched this together every Halloween until the VHS tape demagnetized. It was truly a sad holiday when that happened, and now hopefully I can restore our tradition!
Does anyone notice the strong influence this had on Beauty and the Beast? I mean, the arrival of Belle in the opening of that film is virtually a copy of Ichabod's... Gaston is Obviously based on the Bones character...And there are several images that are copied from this short... I mention it because I've noticed this for a long time and nevar have read anything about it from anyone... Oh, well, I LOVE THEM BOTH!!!

Wow. I just realized how much of an asshole Ichabod really is. Greedy, gluttonous, and lusting after a lady, treating others pretty much like dirt.
