Ernest doe invented these types of tractors back in 1950s in england, 10 years before this lad. Their called the Doe Tiple D and were base on fordson major tractors
@fukinwhurinjasussake Ernest Doe actually purchased the patent rights from Ralph Christensen as I understand it. Ernest Doe & Sons Ltd then produced it commercially.
well for one, these are diesel, two, by connecting them together the load is evenly distributed between the two and neither of them have to work nearly as hard thus using less fuel than one.
@hondarideralex Another consideration is that you don't have front wheel drag to contend with, since all 4 wheels are driving, instead of half the wheels just pushing against dirt and mud
Throttle setting isnt at all critical. The throttle is only working through the governor after all, so if one is a bit more open it just means that tractor will work a bit harder. We built two tandem Nuffields in the 70's, one of which pulled an ammonia injection rig for many years until replaced by a MF 1200.
thats kool we took apart a case tractor the other day just to replace this little circle thing it took 2 days but it was kool i guess thats what you would sort of do with these tractors
Lol Dick head, Dont Be an asshole i was wondering if u could elborate if i was going to be a dick i would of sai something like " u mean the clutch u moron " or something, but i didnt so dont call me a dick
6030diesel - you seem to be the only one who has grasped that the throttle doesn't control rpm on an engine that is working hard....it controls fuelling (on a diesel engine).....Good work.
For the rest of you...on anything powered by an engine the actual ground speed or engine rpm is the result of load and throttle position/fuelling. So, even if the two tractors in this example were in different gears and throttle positions they would both still pull forwards.
IF two tractors were in diffrent gears pulling it would not work-both tractors have to have the same gearing and throttle postion so they can work together, dont say stuff if you dont know what you are talking about
that is if the engines do not have governors. your lawn mower, generators, most commercial gas engines and diesel engines have a governor that controls the throttle. unlike your car where you set how much air and fuel goes into the engine and the rpm is based on what gear you are in and the load on the engine. with an engine with a governor, the throttle sets the rpm that engine will turn and the governor changes amount of fuel and air up or down to try and maintain the rpm.
fuck sakes you two speed doenst have to the exact same some difference is fine like the font engine can go 100rpm faster than the rear just so it doing its part instead of it just driving itslef and i saw 3 ih tractors hooked together there was 2 rears and one front and the front articulated to steer and they had 3 different throttles so speed isnt a huge issue jsut aslong as theyre in the same area it will all work out so quit harpin on eachother already jeeeeeze
yes they would have to put different tractors side by side AND if you could read, i said that different tractors - side by side, so the only thing that would have to done with the SAME tractors is synchronize the throttles; lamens terms: they just run a bar to each throttle so both run at the same rpm...
no they dont have to put them side by side, the first two are the same tractor so they have the same transmission and they just run a bar to each throttle so both tractors run at the same rpm, the last one seen are diffrent tractors but they again have the same transmission
before they would hook them together, they would have to know where they matched speeds ( throttle positions)in there different gears, and by putting them side by side that could be accomplished, and then adjust the linkages accordingly
ooooookkkkkkkkkkkk first put the side by side to mark the trottle positions in the their gears when they match speeds, then hook them togehter and you will know when the independent tractors motor, transmissions, tires and all matched (important part is the "ed" in mathched )equal speeds..........
synchronizing the throttles is all that would have to be done with two tractors that where the same models, with different model tractors i think they would have to be put side by side and driven on flat surface and match speed, and then mark the throttles positions, but different typpe engines would react to loads differently so im not sure how you would compensate for that.
A John Deere 80 is practically the same as an 830, most of the differences are cosmetic, nearly everything else is the same. John Deere was never known for making drastic changes to their tractors. The 830 may have had a Horsepower upgrade and also had electric start as an option (the 80 if memory serves only had a small gasoline engine to start the larger Diesel engine with no electric start option.)
just the same a 4wd tractor the front axle is driven a little bit faster and the hfwa 4020 and 4320 and stuff their fron tires ran a bit faster so it doesnt matter as long as theyre running at a similar speed it will all work
Hey you can see these tractors and other great tractors, just type in "lanz bulldog get together in canada"

@hondarideralex, its nice to see that someone else knows what a governor does, a lot of people think it just limits speed.
