  • he was 17 singing this

  • lol you can tell hes sorry for writing this song. It's in his eyes.

  • Hhehe, finnish subs.. Good music!

  • What model of Hammond is this?

  • @AdamasMst M100

  • @macekmacek Thanks

  • Really a shame that SDG didn't tour the US w/ Stevie. They would have been huge. I remember this song, but didn't connect it with a face until I saw this clip.

  • It's great to hear (and see, of course!) this as it was written, instead of all "juiced up" with speed and the extra voices. Only a little over 100000 hits on this, the more sychronized version?! Thanks "udeari," whoever, & wherever you are!

  • RIGHI DIPI GAHI FU MI PURT GNAGI PRU!

  • Mutt Winwood playing a $100 Harmony Bass !

  • These guys were for real.

  • I don't know where a white teen got a voice like this. But it's just ridiculously awesome.

  • What's that sticking out of the back of Stevie's head?! About 42 seconds into the video. His evil twin trying to make an escape?

  • These guys never got the credit they deserved. Steve Winwood's voice is a phenom.

  • OK - Steve Winwood was 17 yrs old in 1965 - how does a british teenager have so much soul? Ray Charles is a major influence, but this guy had his own ID at a early age. Great stuff!

  • OK, After yet more research.... I'm almost sure the keyboard Winwood is playing in this video is a Hammond M-102.

  • After more research... my best guess is the organ is a L-100 series Hammond.

  • This is without a doubt the best version they ever did of this song. Thanks for uploading and giving me memories of when I was a teenager.

  • I think Leslie West has stated it is a Hammond C3

  • @rotgrafix I don't think it's a C3 either. The organ appears to have preset tabs. Also, the cabinet does not look like a C3. I'm still trying to figure it out.

  • Anyone know what kind of keyboard Steve Winwood is using. It's not a Hammond B3.

  • His live vocals are so raw and primal. Such a powerhouse genius at this age. Knocks me out every time.

  • ..and he is playing the same Harmony bass guitar as I used to play in 1968... nice to see..

  • A better band name would have been 'Stevie Winwood Group, but wenn Stevie met Spencer he only was 15 or 16 y/o.

  • love the way he's slowed down the hookline on this version!

  • This is soooo good!

  • steve winwood = amazing

  • Spencer, You mean Spencer Davis, founder of the group . .That Spencer ??

  • So, it's Steve Winwood singing, but who the fuck is Spencer?

  • Steve's voice is just amazing.

  • When I first heard this song on the radio, I thought it was a Motown tune.

James brown or Sam and Dave Maybe

  • Same

  • brilliant song love it !!!

  • absolutely fantastic

  • Your right Heather this an oldie but goodie. Thank you for sharing.

  • My favorite version of a great song.

  • Spot on ...... it is Spencer lol think everyone wanted to look like Clapton in those days

  • Naw...I take it back...it must be Davis.

  • Son of a gun...that looks like Eric Clapton on the Gibson guitar. I know he wasn't actually part of the 'Spencer Davis Group'...but Steve Winwoon and him did form the short lived group 'Blind Faith' together. Yep...I think that is Clapton.

  • No its spencer Davis...but he does resemble clapton a bit...and its a Gibson reproduction..and you cant hear a note he plays...its just stevies voice and that Jimmy Smith type of hammond playing and the drums and bass...If you look at the frist verse,,,he doesnt even touch the guitar with his right hand...LOL...

  • TOP MOD TRACK!

  • Kitos! (Finnish for thanks!). Great performance and fantastic sound quality!

  • So awesome! Whew!

  • i love tis band

  • How can one obtain a copy of this Finnish TV broadcast? I'd love to own it, so I could blast it on my home stereo. This is such a gem to have, hearing these guys so raw and pure.

  • at the end, he signature him on his head. lol

  • love a hammond & a Leslie

  • Truely an amazing talent, better live than most on record, i'd like to see the Spice girls sing live like this in front of an audience?????

  • Underrated blues belter from 1966. Winwood very like Ray Charles in his delivery.

The Winwood version of the Spencer Davis Group bowed with this song and I`m A Man. Magnificent exit!!!

  • I can't hear Spencer Davis's guitar at all. I'm not sure I can hear the guitar on the original recording either. Is he just doubling Muff's bass riff?

  • yes I believe he is

  • Yes it's finnish, and you're obviously german, and I'm norwegian. Weird that I understand you then. Well, atleast this is a great song, and a great recording!

    Kiitos!

  • What a great video!

  • master piece

  • Wunderbare Aufnahme. Die Untertitel sind finnisch, oder ??

  • Que?

  • @udeari 何?

  • Ja, die Undertitel ist Finnisch. Yle ist die Finnisch tv-kanale.

  • i like Pete hollering in the back'round

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic!

Checkout Pete York's expression at 0:22 when Steve Winwood's about to come in with the main Hammond riff... Great stuff!!!

  • Yeah. He´s like kid in the candy shop.

  • to ElwynJ

    just checkd out Petey @0:22

    his face is a picture!!

    thanx for pointin it out!!

    lol!!!

  • Right on! (Petey's face)

Hard to believe that Winwood was just 17 here!

  • @ElwynJ

I love how York yells out because of Spencer Davis on guitar at 1:19-1:20

    and at 2:18-2:20

  • The last 20 seconds of this clip are kinda funny.

  • The whole clip is humorous, but valuably so. How much of this kind of footage would survive today? Finnish subtitles over the vocals! And a bunch of Finnish-speaking kids surrounding Steve for his autograph - whoever left the camera running on that deserves a medal.

  • ...if you can believe this, stevie winwood was 15 years old when the SDG recorded this great song....

  • Unbelievable! What a voice!

  • Great performance!

  • Yes indeed. I just heard that, when this was taped, they did like 3 hours soundcheck, and run almost out of studiotime. I´m thinking that it was worth it. Great sound for a tv live show. In Finland. At that time.
