I've been to see Portishead about 2 months ago, they never played in my country so I went to a festival nearby my country, it was tremendous, just a shame that the orchestra didn't come. But despite that it's more than an honour to hear her voice and her new album - I don't have words to describe such a masterpiece!

This song takes OVER me. What I love about about their eponymous album is that it's the album where Beth Gibbons plays around most with her voice, becoming a vixen, at times I feel like she channels an ill tempered child through her voice. She becomes one with the drama and violence of the music. On a lot of other tracks it's more about the beautiful contrast of Gibbons light, fragile vocals against the rough edges of the music, particularly on 'third'. I just love this band, bottom line.

@misspetedoherty This is why I adore the power of music. True art does not tell you exactly what your supposed to see or hear. It draws you in & provokes your own thoughts, inspires your own emotions when relating to it. In this case the lyrics are mysterious in what the singer is referring to. She is in pursuit of the fantasy yet the fear of the unknown consumes her with doubt in her choice. Still she refuses to go back to the life and person she was, she can't recognise herself in the past.

it's pretty wild that they are so good live. Most musicians sound better in the studio, but they REALLY come alive on stage and to blend hiphop, rock/jazz and orchestral music. Very impressive.

This has been my favorite P song since a Danish friend introduced them to me over ten years ago. The Roseland version is actually better than the studio version IMHO. The simplicity of the guitar hook, that odd drum beat, and Portishead's unique approach to scratching (which is, sadly, completely absent on the Third album) all combine to make a truly amazing song. Beth's voice carries this song into the stratosphere.
