I kind of agree there, when flapjack first came out I really enjoyed it, but it seemed to get progressively grosser, and Thurop Van Orman just happened to be a lot 'better' at it than the Ren/Stimpy guy.

Adventure time seems to take a vastly different approach to it by getting away with all sorts of jokes and concepts that seem mature, but artfully remain within bounds of a kids show. Also, thematically it seems to borrow a lot from tabletop RPGs, WHICH IS AWESOME.
