  • I watched this while eating a corn on the cob, Weird.

  • i was really expecting some hardcore corn on corn action

  • replace c by letter p letter this video. lawl

  • Actually Marijuana is the #1 American crop of the 21st century :D

  • Pure porn...

  • 0:28 If there's corn in batteries, why can't I eat them? :(

  • With such a low production cost it would be hard stopping the food industry from producing HFCS

  • meep...

  • these videos make the USA look fat and wasteful,i don't disagree

(note: i live in england not usa and im goin just from what the media is saying)

  • We said no to genetically modified over here (UK)

  • so basically the US government is indirectly subsidizing obesity while trying to promote its bad?

  • One of the many problem with corn is that is leads to high food prices in general. As more and more farmers grow corn rather than other crops, these other crops become more expensive as there are less of them to go around; Wheat, potatoes, rice...

But can't we get those crops from elsewhere? sure, but American tariffs on farming good are too high for poorer countries to sell their crops to the US, which is a direct result of too strong farming lobby's, protecting a dying industry.

    ENOUGH!

  • @rasbraa Unless you stop eating corn is here to stay.

  • @gijoei911 That is not the issue. Most of the corn produced nowadays is used in various industries, mainly as a fuel, but also as a additive to fizzy drinks (instead of sugar), a herbicide or even fodder. All these other usages of corn are pushing the price up, not our consumption of corn directly.

Remove the protective tariffs, stop increasing food prices, and stop protecting some gigantic farming conglomerate in Iowa, which is getting government subsidy after they make a nice clean profit

  • @rasbraa No shit I live on a farm in Nebraska. Guess what We Grow? Corn! And we get by fine. This is coming strait from the horses mouth. But thats ok cuz you like to play know it all on youtube and tell people off when they infact dont know shit. Boy!

  • 2010 - monsanto now practically owns the world monopole for genetically manipulated crops. they use this to abuse thousands of farmers, making them dependent of their prices because the genetically manipulated plants are sterile. therefore the farmers must buy new seeds every year. monsanto is a gigantic concern with immense power. and they are doing nothing good with it. nothing. they are just taking this world apart.

  • Oh, good. Someone took our taxes and decided we should subsidize to tilt the playing field.... Now it has become an uphill battle to catch corn, competitively speaking. Consumers, read the labels, they wrote them for you.

  • another great reason for hemp!!

it does all that corn can do and more!!

    don't spam plz

  • what the fuck do you mean "don't spam plz" ? That's stupid.

  • corn is gold

  • hardpore cornography

  • So did the corn price really rice as predicted?

  • I drink roughly 8 - 14 sodas a day, non-diet. I switch between coca-cola and mountain dew. I'm 5' 8.8" and weigh only 133 pounds. I skip breakfast, eat mainly junk food; chips, frozen foods/meals, sandwiches. I've been smoking 1.5 to 2.5 packs of cigarettes a day for roughly 4 years now. I haven't had a vaccine in over 2 years and I haven't been sick in over 2 years. I don't exercise on a regular basis. Last full check up a few months ago the the doctor said I had perfect health. Odd, I know.

  • thats properly not gonna last...

  • No way prove it

  • Congrats. You may be in a healthy minority. Keep doing what makes you happy as long as it does. Decide which symptoms you are willing to live with and do not change until bothered.

I was not so lucky. Have to be off table sugar and HFCS or risk a re-inflammation on the shoulder joint that could otherwise require surgery.

  • APLAC "Omnivore's Dilemma" essay FTL...

  • Monsanto is fucking up the worlds local farmers, and poisoning plants so small children almost dies from the bi-effects of just getting in contact with the plants from walking around in their farms

  • Ironically, I'm drinking Bourbon (51+% Corn by law) while watching this...

  • I'm not from USA, but I like corn. I don't see the problem of USA going so ''corny''

  • Corn, and various other foods, from the U.S. is genetically modified to withstand the pesticides they are regularly sprayed with. Some plants are even given a modified gene to have them produce their own pesticide. This pesticide goes inside you, that is why the EU and many other countries ban American products. Hormones and antibiotics injected into cows and chickens have also been shown to cause cancer.

Growing your own organic vegetables is the only way you can keep yourself healthy.

  • corn is NATIVE to north america. eat from your enviroment, duh.

  • great vids but too sensationalist, don't mean to be condescending but as a economics grad student it occurs to me an enormous amount of your facts are out of context in virtually every video ive seen from you guys btw check the commodity prices of corn from 2007 to 2009 and compare to what the video predicts...

  • corn is also in poo!

  • maybe hemp will replace corn (:

  • Thank you FDR !!! Your farm subsidies have really screwed things up.....

  • .... I like corn....

  • Most of the corn is genetically modified along with soy. Now a recent report claims mercury was detected in corn syrup. It's really sad. I wish we could all grow our own food.

  • you can if you know how, and are willing to put forth the effort. I have been living off my own food for 5 years now and I only have a 3 acre lot to do it on.

  • are you using permaculture?

  • Don't forget Malt beverage contained corn

  • never knew corn could be this so consumed by America. It could affect prices of basic commodities if it goes up. Good video. :)

  • Corn is also in bottled water.

  • excellent job GOOD magazine

  • corn is in batteries too!

  • corn is bad for humans and animals....and boat motors!

  • Interesting.

But... I don't think the corn => beef process was adequately explained.

  • Farmers feed cows lots of corn, corn is cheap, is was pretty much straight-forward. Since so much corn is being used, supply and demand makes the corn prices go up. Therefore, making corn more expensive, therefore the world crisis of food. Thus explaining more costly beef today.

  • There are other factors you're missing here.

For example, the fact that cows don't naturally eat corn, they eat grasses. Corn makes them more prone to e coli. Which gets passed to humans.

Another example, eat less meat = more corn available for other, more useful purposes.

  • At 1:06 ammonium nitrate was not first used as fertilzer after World War 2. NH4NO3 was developed in the very early 1900's by Fritz Haber, a Jewish Scientist from Germany. He developed a method that could convert nitrogen from the air into badly needed nitrogen compound that could be used in soil for farming. You may recognize this as the Haber Process -for which he won a nobel prize. So it's use as a crop growing aid predates WW2 by 35 years.

  • err...he doesnt say it was 1st used as a pfertilizer.

  • Right. But it gives the impression that ammonium nitrate was only used in bombs and that only after WW2 was it used as fertilizer.

  • How do you guys make these videos, what program you using for the visuals?

  • I think these videos are absolutely fantastic, however I would say there were a couple of moments in this one where I had to pause the video to read all the facts on screen before they disappeared!

  • You have a bad time line... well... a Euro-centric time line to the success to corn. You are mostly thousands of years of history in the time line to corn being domesticated in Mexico to trading it as north as far as the Mississippi and that's before Europeans came to the Americas.

  • It would be nice to include the credits in the information sidebar

  • I love corn :)

  • good Magazine never cease to amaze me

  • How do you guys put together such impressive videos so fast? I can't even comprehend how complex these things are. Maybe I'm just a n00b and it's easier than I think.

  • exactly...thats what im thinking...this video blew my mind away

  • good video (no pun intended) but it goes a little to fast to read. mabey just me...

  • yeah is was a bit fast..

  • corn used in tape. hmmmmmmm

  • Just Remember a change is about to happen, everything soon will be better then ever. MOst of the world problems will be solved shortly. We just need OBAMA in control and everything will be perfect. DAY 1 will be the greatest day on earth. PEACE for all, food for all, health care for all, schooling for all. Soon everything with be A OKAY

  • I'm sorry but ether that was 100% Sarcasm or you are "slightly" misled.

  • yes it was Sarcasm since he has already said he wont be able to get much done in his first four years and we all know ALL presidents get even less done in their second term. Only thing that will change is the attutiudes in the streets of uneducated people who voted for him now thinking they are special and acutally mean something. Here in Detroit the talk of taking back what theirs, you mean what is MINE this LAND is all mine it does not belong to the BLACK or WHITE it belongs to MY people

  • and how exactly will obama achieve all that the first day?

  • Reminds me of that south park epispode.

  • I would say that that's definite sarcasm.

  • haha

  • Do you think that kind of comment is helpful in any way?

  • If corn goes up, basically everything will as well.

  • eat organics.

  • Another brilliant video from GOOD magazine.

  • Good video. informing.
