Nice, I've been there a few times. I think I remember seeing you once shooting clays. I just moved to California so I don't shoot there anymore. I have a Saiga too but I have to keep it stock here unless I install a mag lock. Great rifle either way. Hopefully with practice I can shoot clays at 200 yds too. Nice shooting!
That probably was me - I either shoot fast or shoot the clays, or both hehe. They are very doable at 200, just practice learning where it hits is the main thing. Usually if it is zeroed at 25 yds at 200 yds the impact will be about 4" below the target.
Great vid! I just picked up my Saiga 7.62 yesterday and took it out to the range. Me and my bro's were hitting targets 200m with just open sights... so whoever says an ak47 is inacurrate has obviously never fired one, or can not shoot for shaat. I fackin love this rifle!
@crxbeast16a The problem is that most AK owners never zero the rifle and then just shoot dirt. Makes AKs look bad. I can get 7" groups at 200 open sights 10 shots. Around 3.5" at 100 or 4".
I agree with Phoneix. Everytime I take my AK to the range I shoot as good or better than the other guys there with their AR's. I have for years. AK-47's are accurate if you have skill. If not then yeah stick to your AR.
It's great seeing 200m impacts with 7.62x39. Very underrated cartridge, and very great video. It's good to see actual marksmanship at work! I know a fellow who shoots 200 meters with iron sights on a Bulgarian SA-93. He doesn't make every shot, but breaks enough clay for it to count and hits within a few cm if he doesn't (flips the clay). At 100m he never misses. Anyone that says AK's aren't accurate has never seen a quality AK in the hands of a good shooter. Thanks for posting video!
I think people say AKs arent accurate is because they have the image of a terrorist firing an old Ak47 on full auto and not even shouldering it. In that case yes the Ak is VERY inaccurate.
I do shoot better with my Colt but I think that has more to do with familiarity and preference for the peep sight over notch and blade of the AK. With optics they are similar in performance, the AR may win by a small margin but then again I mostly shoot surplus ammo so there are other factors than just weapon design. I agree that a rifle is only as good as the hands it is in. I am by far from being a great shooter so I imagine there are some AK pros that can shoot much better
@0SumProductions The sights on an AR15 and heavy free float barrels will win in the end, I wish my AK had sights like my AR. I have some videos shooting very close to 200 standing rapid fire and a few from bench. 7" groups with AK iron sights is the best I can do at other range that was a true 200 yards.
With a good quality scope and mount the best I have been able to get out of an AK was a 1.75" group at 100 yds - using the Winchester Super-X ammo; I have been able to maintain that near 2 MOA out to 300 yds. That was with a Saiga 7.62x39. I have several Russians, including an Arsenal SGL as well as a Norinco Mak-90.
Strictly by the books an AK is supposed to be a 2.5 MOA rifle. A M16 is also a 2.5 MOA rifle - and is more shooter friendly. An AK can do it though.
@0SumProductions Every bone stock 20" AR15 I've ever had was very close to 1" groups at 100 yards 5 shots. I always used Colt HBAR barrels with a 1-7 twist and match ammo and handloads, usually I would get around 1.2". Those were non free floated barrels, I would never put money on an AK winning any kind of bench shooting match, the barrels are so thin and they whip around a lot. My short barreled M4 is not that accurate like my 20" rifles but it still is a bit better than my AK.
That's great - I am familiar with the performance of a Colt HBAR, I have one (Match HBAR) - The fact remains, I am able to get 2 MOA performance out of a rifle that everyone and their brother insists shouldn't be able to get much better than 4 MOA. Maybe I will post some iron for iron shooting between an Arsenal and a Colt in the spring.
Also - comparing performance out of a match barrel with match ammo and handloads over a non-match rifle shooting the cheapest ammo one can find is hardly a great comparison wouldn't you agree?
@0SumProductions I just shot an SGL21-61 today and that is exactly what I got. 1.75" group at 100 yds using double tap 123gr. With PPU, S&B and russian steel ammo, groups were 2.15" to 3.5". Do you find American brass to be better than Russian stuff like Golden Bear, Silver and Brown Bear, Wolf? I'm trying to decide what ammo to get for more extensive testing.
I have had an AK out to 400 yds shooting at coke cans and head-sized targets. I get about a 40% hit rate at that range. The AK is definitely a capable shooter.
@0SumProductions lol as you can tell this comment was old... now that i have a ton of trigger time with the ak style rifle i understand that yes it is a very capable rifle indeed....
Is yours the 20" or 16" barreled version? Just wanted to know because I bought the 16" version the other day. Accuracy from that distance with an ak is impressive, nice shooting.
The reason why I didn't use the side rail is that most of the scopes are not center bore aligned so you will be off at any range either to the left or right depending on the where you zeroed it. The after market center bore side mounts that I have used have not been good at retaining zero as they tend to loosen, even after taking them apart and applying loctite.
I'm buying one but I cant decide between 223 or 7.62!!!! Great vid. I didnt know 7.62 could even reach beyond 150yds accurately. I thought anything more than 150yds would be around 7" to 8". Are you using a scope? Or Muzzle brake or anything else to enhance the performance of the soviet round?
I am using a Leupuld VX1 3-9x40mm scope and there is a muzzle brake on the rifle. I zeroed it in at 100m and just Kentucky windage'd it at 200m, it shoots about 2" low @ 200m when zeroed at 100m.
Oh and also using a Kreb's Customs beryl mount; those things are a little on the expensive side but retain zero better than any other option I have used.
From my own personal experiences I would say that yes, the Saiga 7.62 is more accurate than the average "AK". Are there other manufacturers that produce a quality AK? Sure, but the Saiga is more readily available and within most peoples budgets.
best shooting ever that i have seen with an ak type rilfe

Wonder what you can get with the 5.45x39. Think I am going to buy a scope mount and good scope and see what I can do with my interarms ak74.

Im looking into getting a saiga. what would be better for 200 yard shots, the .223 or the 7.62x39? or will there be any real big difference?

Is that trigger stock , or did you switch it out with an American-made one ? Thanks.

On this video I was using a Leupold VX1 3-9x40mm.
I since upgraded to a Leupold MarkII 4-12x40mm. I have been modifying the Saiga so haven't had it out as of yet and have the new scope on my MSG-91.

very nice video. I like seeing the damage/target over someone just squeezing the trigger. I have one of these on the way and can't wait to get it.
I am curious why you didn't use the factory side rail mounting option. wouldn't that hold zero with quality hardware?
M00nMan01 2 years ago
