  • ufufufufufu...ajajajajajajaaj

  • Does anyone else think the acoustics of this venue are a little flat and dead?

  • Pretty rowdy for a classical music audience haha.

  • And as for the previous argument, music like Justin

Bieber is lyrics written by one team, sung to the music of another team, then they pick which one of their random bobbleheads will sing it. They aren't picked for their talent, they're picked for their looks or big boobs. What happened to the old days when artists were TALENTED?! DOWN with that corporate music that's churned out on an assembly line! It's crap! Screw Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Lindsey Lohan, and the rest of them

  • @AnontheOP Dude, we're here for Beethoven.

Sit down and open a bottle of ale.

  • That poor composer has full fledged Parkinson's disease. He can not eat soup to save his life.

  • that composer is a douche lol

  • A minor opens the symphony in D minor. It starts with utter nothingness...and then...a THUNDERCLAP!

  • The Bowl is a hard place to film, but this camera work is really poor

  • Dudamel is one the best conductors of our times.

  • Sad that this has 4,491 views and stupid, unmusical "pop" these days get millions...ugh,...

  • Unmusical? Grow up, little critic.

  • @MoaiMaea You know I'm not talking about Beethoven, right? I'm talking about people like Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers and crap.

  • So what? This is music as well. Just because you dislike it doesn’t mean it isn’t music.

  • @MoaiMaea I didn't say it wasn't music. I just said it was unmusical and stupid. It's not lyrical, the words are stupid, it's just for the money, not for the art, it's annoying, and the only reason anyone likes it is because they're told it's good by the media. If the media spent as much time promoting Eric Whitacre as they did Justin Bieber, Eric Whitacre would be just as famous.

  • The prefix “un-” negates the following adjective. And with musical “musical” meaning

    1. Of or relating to music.

    2. Gifted or skilled in music.

    3. Pleasing to the ear. (Her voice had a musical tone.)

you are saying that said music is none of this. And your argument regarding the reason for anyone to like it is frickin’ preposterous. So are you saying if someone has never heard one of them before he could never like it? Get a grip. Also, since when is art less art because it is made for money?

  • @MoaiMaea It's possible for something to lack what it's supposed to be and still called that. Happens all the time. Ever heard of dishonest honesty? That's a real term. It's when someone says something they truly believe is true even though it's a complete lie. Has to do with mental condition. Similarly, Unmusical music is music that lacks musicality, even though people are convinced it's musical. You can't tell me that repeating "baby" 50 times on the same note is musical? Come on.

  • Of course I can because I am not as close-minded as you appear to be. Are you simultaneously condemning all modern and experimental music that has similar treats? Go ahead and try that. You’d be ripped to shreds by musicologists. And I doubt that even someone like you would go as far as publicly discrediting this science.

  • @MoaiMaea Haha wow, really? Musicologists? I doubt you even know what a musicologist is. I'm a music major with advanced placement in theory and performance. I think I know a little about music, the theory behind it, the science of why it works, and why some music is considered "catchy." But of course, some people consider John Cage as a musical genius when all he did was make people pay to stand in a park and listen to birds and call it original music and people fell for it. So whatever.

  • Yup and I am the love child of Ludwig van Beethoven’s female descendants and Justin Bieber.

But never mind that, what exactly is unmusical about his works? When taking the meaning of skill into consideration (“[r]equiring special abilities or training”) I think all three points are fulfilled. You can argue about the second one but the rest should be beyond doubt. Especially the last one since it lies in the ... ear of the auditor.

Also, you haven’t answered most of my (not rhetoric) questions.

  • @MoaiMaea Ah I love your attempt at sarcasm to try and say that I'm lying about what I am. But I don't care if you believe me. I can hear any Justin Bieber song and instantly be able to play it by ear on piano or guitar. Not because I am a beast or anything. Because they're easy. The most chords I've heard in a Justin Bieber song is 4. A whole four. The mid-seventies were when music started to die out. There are very few good, innovative musicians today. By the way, Bieber has a terrible voice.

  • No, I am being serious. Are you calling me a liar?

And again, simplicity doesn’t make it any less musical. Besides, it has to be conceived. And regarding this as easy, uncreative or whatever is also merely an objective valuation.

Oh and just to get this straight: I neither listen nor especially like Justin Bieber’s music (as can probably be seen looking at my favorites). But saying that it is (as opposed to: you find it) unmusical sticks in my craw.

  • I was there, and it is a night I never will forget!

  • THANK YOU for posting this most extraordinary event.

  • Wtf, the shot is totally of the conductor the entire time. An angle of the orchestra would be 10x better

  • @Haaggus ,

I'm confused by your statement that the camera focuses on Dudamel the "entire time." The orchestra was shown! Besides, the Hollywood Bowl doesn't have gratuitous camera access due to the physical layout of the seating and stage. This was Dudamel's premiere performance for the people of Los Angeles. As a resident of the city, I can assure you that everyone was focused on him and his excellence and musicianship.

  • @kiltlvr Gustavo is eye candy!

  • @mmcrosbie

I completely agree! He has electrified the music scene in Los Angeles. He also makes classical music accessible to the masses. He enjoys his audience, is gracious, and takes the time to address the audience during each performance, Amazing!!! We are so blessed to have the Maestro!!
