  • i bleed when i get stoned. the pain inside i suppose

  • The first ablum I ever purchased, the first artist I ever liked. still going strong 40 plus years later. Thanks Neil.

For those who don't think he belongs in the RHOF needs to listen to this.

  • One of the first cassette tapes I ever bought was this album...still I cherish this so much. This song and "Brother Love" and "Both sides now" ...well, too many great ones to mention...

  • Does anyone know which version of this is on the B-Side of the Cracklin Rosie single? Is it the same version as here or another version?

  • I was 12. I bought this on tape. I'm in the car listening to this with my mom, and at the top of my lungs I'm singing, "...cuts your heart out for a prize, while a FISH sings hallelujah!" Well, good thing I misunderstood the lyrics, because my mom would NOT approve of the actual word there. :)

  • @crazysingingchick

That's funny, I thought it was FISH also. This was the first album I had by him. Probably drove my parents nuts, played it every day when I got home from school.

  • Do you have the rest of the "Gold" songs. I love this album.

  • I could listen to Neil Diamond all night long, I really liked "Soggy Pretzels".

  • ...TIS THE BEST FROM THE BEST WHO PUT SOUL AND SELF INTO HIS MUSIC...AND i STILL CRAVE IT TODAY...

  • Tap Root Manuscript got me interested. This album got me hooked. I was a big fan of Neil Diamond for most of my teenage years, Im still a fan today, but honestly prefer his earlier stuff.

  • amo!!!!! a este hombre!!!! cuantos recuerdos

    thessie

  • I remember buying this album just for the cover. I already had my favorite neil songs on other albums. but when I saw this cover. Well....

  • Have you thought of uploading the whole album. I can't find the "Gold" version of "Both Sides Now" on YouTube.

  • This is a Fav of mine--raunchy raw sensual--wish I had been there at the Troubadoyur Club back in the day. Thank you Usheleq for posting.....Alyce V.

  • This is a cool song.I keep finding cool Neil D., songs like "two bit manchild" & "walk on water"...

  • I grew up listening to Neil Diamond, my mother was a huge fan. The Gold Album was a staple in our house. I personally prefer Neil from '66-'72...but enjoyed everything he played in concert when I saw him in 1999 and 2001. Amazing.

It's a disgrace he's being passed up on the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame...he did a lot of light rock, and love songs...but, to say he's not a Rock and Roller is like saying Metallica isn't Metal. He belongs in the Hall...end of story.

  • @rboo124 Amen.

  • Had this on 8track-album and cassette. Hard to find now even on net. A gem of album. Cherry Cherry, Holly Holy, and Brother Love never sounded better.

  • The only thing I know about Leonard Cohen is

that Neil covered one of his songs and did a

better job of it..."Suzanne". But that I wouldn't consider RR--would you--I'm so angry about this whole RRHOF not accepting Neil --I have their address if you want to write to them--they say won't accept e-mails or phone calls --address:

RRHOF 1290 Avenue of the Americas

    NY, NY 10104---good luck Texasgal.....

  • heheh..i remember looking at this album cover when i was little and thinking what a weird pose for a record.

  • i would like to ask the hall one thing--just how much csn and y was "ROCK" --a great deal was pure folk--same with Dylan--and i could go on

  • @pappy15445 dylan did a lot for rock n roll. just listen to the highway 61 album.

  • Hi added to my playlist of Neil Diamond on my channel.

    Steven

  • Maggiegirl2006 He has been enrolled in a music Hall of Fame, they say they can't identify whether his music is actually ROCK. Well, at lease he rcvd a Lifetime Achievement Award, so we can still push for the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame..Nobody belongs there more..

  • I read that Leonard Cohen has been inducted into the RRHF!! Neil has rocked way more than Leonard. :-) When did LC front a RR band?, when did he write a real RR song?, when did he play an RR instrument?

  • @texasgal12 Neil has been nominated this year so we'll see. Leonard is a great song writer and actually a good showman, I saw him and he had a lot of dry humor for the crowd and he was great to watch. But as far as Rock goes, I agree Neil rocks more than Leonard.

  • @bushbasher85 I am not going to argue w/success. Leonard Cohen is unique. :-) Neil covers Hallelujah on his new album, Dreams. Can hardly wait.

  • Saw Neil do this in concert in November 1970 in Detroit just a few months after GOLD was released - Randy Sterling was on bass and Carol Hunter played a 12 string Fender electric guitar

and NEIL - well I thought Neil was god!!

  • I was estatic to get his autograph but man he was rocking and oh man he smelled so dang good

you can tell real talent from a wann-a-be hes gotg the talent he needs to be accepted in the hall of fame he has over 30 some odd gold records what wrong with that academy dont they know talent!!!!! come on all let send nice letters to them and get Neil in there he deservies it. 30-40 years of hits! come on guys. He has song his hearft out to use lets do sometrhing for him. are yea with me???

  • my original post --which likely will now show up-----said that the song cut here is from GOlD released in i believe 69 -somewhere between sweet caroline and the album that contained Cracklin' Rosie as caroline is on the set and rosie which went to number 1 on the charts isn't.---The right half of the pic is from HOT AUGUST NIGHT recorded at the greek theatre.the other side of the pic is GOLD's cover

  • actually I stand corrected---the left half of the picture is the cover of GOLD--the right half of the pic is HOT AUGUST NIGHT

  • BTW, that album cover is one of the COOLEST most ROCKING album covers out there! You ROCK Neil!

  • surely I bleed when I git stoned....

  • sexy NOW THAT I AM OLDER--my parents liked the beat..........

  • Grew up listening to Neil, This was one of the first albums that I heard.. I remember my grand-parents didnt like him, because they thought he was a dirty hippie. lol

  • There is no DVD....this was made in '76.

  • Where the DVD of this

  • I still have this album! Anybody remember what those things were???!!!

  • Yes, I have this one and about 12 others. Priceless.

  • I was 14 and living in a small country town. Wanted a shirt just like Neil's (not the one from HAN - the one on the left) Not sure what I was thinking at the time. Didn't have any where to wear it. Great song though.

  • This is one of Neil's most underrated songs, and also one of his most brilliant. Neil is just as great today as he was in his "glory" days.

  • Great one, definetly in my top ten Neil songs thanks !

  • The man was BRILLIANT in his day. What a songwriter!!

  • He's STILL brilliant.

  • Opening night, Neil took a deep breath, hyperventilated and with the first note he sang, blew the audience away. After Troubadour, Neil was a superstar. He got standing ovations for every night's performances.

  • Yeah I guess I'd quit too after that below the belt (pun} comment. Maybe you will reincarnate and return as a weazle. lol

  • With those Troubadour performances he established himself as a fantastic performer.

  • Thank you for this gem from Mr. D. Wish someone had Glory Road. Added this one to my favorites. Thanks again.

  • Yep, this is the part of diamond we grew up with, the HAN album was always played, songs like lordy, cruchy granola, holy holly, walk on water..thanks for this gem.
