madonna has alwaays been a rebel and always be...i have so much respect for her work, as beside the happy poppy songs that make you dance she always put out materials that will make you think and she is not afraid to speak her mind. i can understand why she pulled this video though...i dont think it was so much for the crude immages, but i think it was in respect of the families of those people -soldiers and civilians- who fell during this unlawful war.
Personally, the only shock about this video came when Madonna censured it! I have always admired her for her guts in challenging the "American Life" status quo especially when dealing with sex. That she was banned from American radio was also not a shock and ultimately a disappointment because "American Life" in particular had great songs such as "Nothing Fails" and "Love Profusion". The tragedy is that this was the beginning of the end for all our freedoms.

Madonna always haves her way of expressing herself, thats why I like her as the only popmusic I listen to, she can really make you think. Big respect on my behalf this video is added to my favorites.

I don't see how the hell the album could have NOT done well. It sucks that the controversy surrounding the video is what made the album not do so well. I believe the critics were also full of shit because the album did NOT sound as bad as they made it out to be. Hats off to Madonna for pulling off another great record - just thought I'd say that since not too many people did. :(
It's ironic that this video was made in 2002 and only now America is coming to the point of being able to criticize the Bush administration's actions. Good on Madonna for having the forsight to see what this war would become. A government unquestioned is a dictatorship. American public opinion was surpressed out of fear after 9/11. We need Madonna's fearlessness to put a mirror up to our actions as a society. Real people are dying. Glamorizing war is not an option. Better late than never.
