PT2: Many colleges are stating FERPA DOESN'T ALLOW US TO DISCLOSE.WRONG! REREAD 99.31(a) and stop misinterpreting FERPA. FERPA allows colleges, if they choose, to notify parents of alcohol/substance violation, academic probation, academic dismissal, discipline that results in removal from student housing, student stating they are suicidal, professors notice a kid may be in distress, etc. Student is not attending class regularly, missing tests, finals, etc. All allowed under FERPA without a release.
PT1: Another false and misleading FERPA video. Parents, listen beginning at 1:58, FERPA 99.31(a) and Internal Revenue Code Section 152 of Title 26 of the US Code (Dependent Student) Disclosue of NON DIRECTORY INFORMATION is PERMITTED WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT of THE ELIGIBLE STUDENT if the disclosure meets 99.31(a)(8),(a)(10),(a)(15) or any other provison of 99.31(a). FERPA allows information, HOWEVER, it doesn't mandate it.
