  • I wish that Mayer would do more on the electric guitar. Even when he strays from blues, his electric stuff is really good.

  • Love both of these guys. They both can 'sing the blues' if you will, but have both still have a great, unique sound.

  • John Mayer is good, of course, but ...... CLAPTON IS GOD. Hendrix, Duane Allman and Clapton are the Three best Giterist ever (Rolling Stone Hall of Fame)

  • You want to hear a guartist listen to Melvin Taylor

  • @bszwed you want to hear a god, listen to clapton

  • sick solo!

  • John is way better than I thought

  • I couldn't help but smile the whole way through this

  • The look on erics face when johns soloing is priceless hahaha

  • i had to change my underwear after this............

  • Never gets old....t minus 1:20 hrs before I go to the Grindstone....make some flower power @ the appropriate hour....Enjoy.....Living on the Edge of 33 and 32 Degrees F.

  • John Mayer, like Joe Bonamassa and so many others, is a graduate of the Eric Clapton School of Blues Guitar!

  • What people don't realize is that mayer can hold his own against ANYONE. He's more fun to listen to than clapton as well as being able to play diverse styles. Just type in John mayer- Neon in LA and see why he is one of the best. Clapton is great and everyone owes a lot to home but ever since derek and the dominoes, he's been rather boring..

  • Geil, Geil, Geil

  • Mayer's a little to fast to be the next Slowhand in my opinion. He solo's a little rough.

  • Great blues jam! Never thought that John Mayer would be such an amazing blues player. I justed started to play blues, plz check my blues jam ( @ my channel) and tell me what you think about it. It would help me alot. Keep the blues alive!

  • HE'S BACK!

  • Guitar playing is an art and not a sport...but John truly gave Eric a run for the money!

  • KILLER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck. Simply jaw dropping.

  • who's solo was better, john mayer or eric clapton?

  • John mayer´s solo in this is one of my favorite guitar solos XD

  • are they playing the same guitar except for different fretboads?

  • @micllave eric is probably playing his own signature model.

  • This is a great performance by both Eric Clapton and John Mayer

  • I can't believe I take time to read the comments. They are always filled with total ignorance as everyone bashes one musician or the other.

Deciding who is "better" is a person's opinion, not an irreversible fact for the whole world, holy shit!

And as far as stealing licks goes.. Are you kidding me? Each and every guitarist has been influenced by a guitarist they look up to. There's bound to be some overlap in styles. You can't copyright a lick.

Just relax and enjoy the amazing music.

  • @Heliocopter8 some faith in humanity has been restored.

  • @Heliocopter8

This the best comment i ever read!!

Just relax and enjoy the amazing music... very well sayed :)

  • Legend + Legend = epic.

  • 277 dislikes only means that in the greater musical scheme of things their dislikes woefully DON'T count for A THING!!!!!!!

  • John Mayer. What a trite douche-bag hack. He's basically Dave Matthews if he was better looking, vacuously trite, hacky and just as dumb as a bag of hammers.

  • @Hoopermazing and he's basically homer simpson if he was yellow cartoony and said 'doh'

  • I may know ,What was Eric thinking of the guy.

  • aah 240p... The quality makes me believe its the original from 1936.

  • both TRUE GUITAR HEROES!! ..... still speechless

  • claptons voice is still ace!

  • God I wish I grew up in the 70s.

  • Awesome preformance, haters can suck my dick either way these guys are still rockin!

  • But Clapton is just smiling!! :D

  • Mayer got it!!

  • Man, Clapton's tone is amazing!

  • Don't you people remember stevie ray vaughn when you see John Mayer's playing? that kind of "permanent muting" style

  • Poxa,muita massa o John na guitarra,Clapton também é incrivel!

  • it's not only about technique and theory, it's about breathing and playing the right notes.

  • I think Mayer, especially 4 years past this, is a technically a better guitar player than Clapton. Don't get me wrong, Clapton is amazing but Mayer is on another level. I think a lot of people have a hard time seeing/admitting this. It's sort of like how marijuana hasn't been legalized. I'm sure Obama and the presidents before him don't have an issue with it but nobody wants to be the one to do it, like nobody would publicly come out and say Mayer is a better guitar player.

  • @ztbsk8er john mayer is not even that good are you fucking kidding me......listen to the perfection in every note clapton plays..not to mention he is like 70 years old. Also on a different note Clapton is a much much much better songwriter and just musician in general than mayer. sure john mayer can play but he is no better that like people in fucking green day or jack johnson shit. and dont reply bieng like you wish you were as good as him because i know im not, but i know damn well clapton is.

  • @maxgfolkins Dude you sound like a retard. I can't even respond to your comment because it is ignorant in so many ways.

  • @maxgfolkins You're a fucking retarded tool.

  • @brbpwn no your fucking retarted.... clapton has fucking emotion in his songs. mayor is just a douche. also is john mayor in the rock and roll hall of fame 3 times? i think not.

  • @maxgfolkins Stop talking dude. You are retarded.

  • @maxgfolkins Hahaha , dude how long is eric clapton playing ?

And john mayer ? , and you say that John doesn't have emotion in his songs ?

    /watch?v=fb-jRtKOQLs watch that man.

    Peace

  • @muismat21 man great song.haven't heard it before.and what a solo.... :D

  • @maxgfolkins Come on, give credit where it's due.I don't really listen to John Mayer but I can still tell that he is a very, very good guitarist with major blues chops.

  • @maxgfolkins You are clearly suffering from icon deafness. Clapton is a very overrated guitar player as this video proves.

  • @ztbsk8er since continuum in my opinion.. wait for his next album, try to find "Something like olivia", its a new song

  • @ztbsk8er Oh, so you think Mayer is Clapton's superior?

Huh, so I guess it's okay to just ignore the 40 years of excellence and ingenuity that Clapton has brought to music. You, sir, are an idiot. If we're talking technicality here, I would suggest you watch some more live Clapton performances. They blow anything Mayer does out of the water.

  • @NecronDude1 Nah dude, I totally dig Clapton and what he's done with music. He's definitely an icon and has made a huge impact on the electric guitar and music in general Probably more of an impact than Mayer will ever even.think of making. I also don't think it's fair to call me an idiot because I think Mayer has become (technically) a better guitar player. Clapton is great but I would suggest to you, that you watch some more live Mayer performances. It's no competition though...

  • @ztbsk8er John Mayer is good, Clapton is a legend. There's really no discussion. It's like comparing an artist nowadays to someone who has done it to someone who has done it there whole life. Lil Wayne is to Biggie as John Mayer is to Clapton.

  • @rmed30 : You say Clapton is a 'greedy piece of shit'. You my friend are a jealous piece of shit.

  • mayer winnnnnniinng :D ^^

  • Clapton doesn't perform for the money, he performs because it's in his soul! He played everywhere for almost all his life, I think he just can't stop. Have you ever seen Clapton wearing expensive clothes or driving cars like Lamborghinis? Maybe he has some expensive watches. but hey, he is allowed to have that. he worked hard for that. And if he does it for the money, he does it for his wife and children when he is dead.. (Mayer and Clapton share the number 1 position at my favorite artist list)

  • sa me shplodh .............

  • Hendrix had already done it(kill Clapton) Not you too john, pelase... Poor man

  • While Mayer was soloing, Clapton was smiling, DeLa was smiling, that says all 1:28

  • 1. This is a promoshow for the Crossroad Consert. 2. The blues need John Mayer to reace the Justin Bieber genereasion ( people between 15 - 30), that's why John Mayer plays with EC,BB King and Buddy Guy..

  • @Bigbluesboy : Keep tellin yourself that imbecile. Clapton plays with John Mayer for the same reason that he plays with Sheryl Crow. It's the same reason Jagger does a music video with Will I Am and Jlo. It's the same reason a Carlos Santana concert looks like a goddamn Disney channel special....MONEY! Clapton is a shameless douch who figures he can cash in on JM's younger demographic and JM can likewise gain street cred and distance himself from his earlier, (even) more embarrassing stuff.

  • @rmed30 What a moronic comment. In 1999 Clapton auctioned his brown Stratocaster (among others) that he used on the Layla album. It sold for $450,000 and the money went to charity. In 2004, he auctioned his black Stratocaster (among others), which sold for $959,500. Again, the money went to charity. These two auctions alone, largely made up of guitars and equipment from his personal collection, raised over $12 million for charity. Yeah, Clapton does it for the money.

  • @mohawkman61 : Yea, I read that somewhere. I think that story was on the cover of this month's 'Big Whoop' magazine. Im not discrediting his philanthropic efforts. But just to add some perspective, it wasn't Clapton who donated millions, it was people who placed bids. And when the event is charity, people tend to spend more. It's not like it was out of his pocket. Also Clapton literally has 100s of millions of dollars so you'll forgive me if I don't exactly consider him St. Swithens.

  • @rmed30 Good comments!

  • @HeynLinger most of em

  • @rmed30 Yes, thank you, my whole point. Clapton literally DOES have 100s of millions of dollars. So why would you say he plays with people like JM and Sheryl Crow for the money? And why would he need to cash in on JM's younger demographic? Record sales? To put asses in seats? What exactly do you think he's planning to do that he needs more money, buy England? As the guys over at ESPN would say.....C'mon man!

  • @mohawkman61: Do you think because Clapton has a pile of money that he's above selling out? That's exactly why he's a scumbag; because he's a greedy piece of shit. If he didn't care about money then it would't cost me $200 to see him live in a stadium. That's the same reason Mick Jag is a greedy piece of shit. And that's fine, if you can make money than by all means do it. From your point of view it may seem like he's set and doesn't need any more cash, but you are fooling yourself.

  • @mohawkman61 : Consider Lep Zepplin. THey must have tons of money. Yet when I turn on the tv and have to suffer through a hyundai elantra commercial with Led Zepplin's 'Rock and Roll' playing in the background, I have to ask myself 'how much money does Led fucking Zepplin need?' Now everytime i hear that song I have to picture a shitty little japanese shit box wizzing by. Same principle applies to CLapton.

  • @Bigbluesboy : And if you still think the reason Clapton plays with JM is bc he's best blues guitar going, go to any jazz / blues club in NY on a tuesday and see if the guy playing that night doesn't make Mayer look like lil wayne on guitar. That is all.

  • Clapton fenomenal!!!!!!

  • Get off the fucking stage, Mayer.

  • What is the name of the drummer?

  • Can't we all just get along and appreciate the music?

  • @TheEternalLeader THATS THE WORD IM LOOKING FOR>> NICE ONE...

  • @TheEternalLeader Amen brother.

  • @TheEternalLeader look at ratings

  • @juna2509 look at the comments.....

  • Mayer crusheddd that solo

  • 240p we meet again

  • @voxsupreme . I'm into blues, what u wrote was heartfelt, but mate. 2 different styles totally and don't forget,,, clapton has been there 45 plus years, seen it, done it, written the book and lived it all...Yes Mayer was sharper, funkier etc, but what he lacks is history. When u think of all the incredibly talented unfortunately dead artists, and Clapton's still an inspiration, has survied it all.. We'll talk again in 40 years and see who's name has been forgotten.

  • I think they are both good but together they are fantastic, what's wrong with all those arguments ==..

  • Clapton definitely couldve done a lot better with his solo, you cant disagree that he put up a bad performance especially since he is the clapton

  • @ocr17 Clapton bad? Go to the emergency room IMMEDIATELY for a rectal examination. lol

  • AMAZING!!

  • 1:31 John Mayer made Eric Clapton SMILE!!! Beautiful moment.

  • Robert Johnson! THE KING!!

  • two great players..love their music..clapton is so good..but john is so amazing..he always digs in..hendrix of this generation i think.. the best for me

  • @kogieblues07 : Don't ever put John Mayer and Jimi Hendrix in the same sentence. Ever. John Mayer is mediocre and makes sappy, cheesy, shitty music for kids and retards. Hendrix was a massive talent, who had more vision, soul and talent in his balls that Mayer has in his whole brain. Personally, I'll take 'Machine Gun' and 'Purple Haze' over 'My Stupid Mouth' any day of the week. Jesus, people have shit for brains these days.....

  • @rmed30 i ddnt comment here on youtube to argue things.. if hendrix was a massive talent, yes youre true..i know that. its just that i also love the way mayer plays..im not comparing them..im relating them, and its none of your business.. talk to the hand.. and shut the fuck up..blues is good to the soul, its supposed to be enjoyed by people.. and not like this that it becomes the reason of arguments..fuck you in the name of hendrix.. your a disgrace of guitar playing..

  • @vozsupreme erics rifts i dont think are sloppy, just maby not as good as mayors in this video thier still great though. jimi is god

  • As sounding beautiful, exciting and just plain cool, I think Mayer had the better solo.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I have suddenly lost any respect for Clapton, as without him, Mayer would probably not be a nearly as good guitarist he is today.

Long story short, both are the absolute shit,

    but in their own way.

  • Clapton uses five notes to destroye John Mayer's solo.. And he is in low gear.. John is one high gear, playing SRV stuff hole over his solo...

  • @Bigbluesboy finally someone with some taste and common sense here.

  • @djs259 Well there is a interweiv of John here on Youtube, about playing here with EC, about who's going to play first and last solo..

  • @Bigbluesboy Oh!! yeah!!!!!! Claptons's the king!!

  • 1:32. Clapton acknowledges that Mayer was tearing it up. About 3 seconds into his first solo.

  • you know its funny I try play guitar just for fun over 10 years I know how to play not to this level. but the comments shit me I have heard EC called Captain slow hands

and you here on one comment EC is holding back as JM is not good enough

fuck there just playing music of each other who cares what it sounds like its all good these are 2 great guitarist and artist so much negativity in this world

  • Some commentators must suffer from ID (Icon Deafness). Clapton´s solo is virtually smashed by Mayer´s snappy playing. And mind You - I´m 62 years old and grew up with the "Clapton Is God" mantra. Clapton sounds as if he needs to "clear the throat" of his guitar, the riffs are unispired and even sloppy while Mayer sounds clear, inspired and harks back to when a Strat sounded as Leo Fender intended. Mayer´s technique is as good as when Clapton 1965 blew everybody away with Hideaway, and then some.

  • @voxsupreme I disagree very strongly. Clapton is clearly holding back here in deference to Mayer. This is standard musical etiquette when gigging with another's band. Even then, Clapton remains highly musical and idiomatic while Mayer's playing comes off as repetitious mechanical noodling, more akin to the style of a typical "guitar-mart hero" than one genuinely steeped in the tradition from which this music draws its inspiration. To me, he sounds like a second-rate generic SRV imitator.

  • @djs259 Dude, this is a cliche, not thought out opinion. You'll notice that Mayer's playing has a tendency to make other great players literally smile because he's doing sick stuff. He does it constantly with the trio, where the bassist and drummer (Steve Jordan) are world class. He does it to all the other guys on stage here. Mayer is sick. Clapton's tone, in comparison, as always, sounds thin.

  • @SkirtSoPlain Cliches become cliches precisely because they embody certain true judgments which have been observed to apply across a wide range of human experiences. This happens to be one of those instances. Mayer's playing is mechanical and formulaic, and his blues licks shopworn, derivative, and repetitious. Comparing Mayer to Clapton is like comparing Chopin heard on piano rolls to Chopin as performed by a virtuoso like Argerich. Calling it "sick" is not exactly well thought out criticism.

  • @djs259 Wow, you need to get over yourself. As for Mayer's playing, he is very accomplished and has tremendous chops. Derivative? Sure, how could he NOT be? Clapton is derivative, too. Frankly, Clapton is no longer a very exciting musician.

  • @Gradypete This isn't about me, but your talentless douche of a self-styled guitar god, John Mayer, who really does need to get over himself because his sound is sterile and his phrasing banal; he isn't in the same league as those he places himself besides musically. Clapton is not derivative; he is one of the pioneers of the rock blues sound. Perhaps he isn't as exciting as in the past, but at least he's not a tasteless, self-important mediocrity like Mayer. Tremendous chops? He's a noodler.

  • @djs259 Geez, did you walk in and catch Mayer fucking your girlfriend or something? I can't imagine why anyone would have such an axe to grind (excuse the pun) over a guitar player. Don't like him? DON'T BUY HIS MUSIC.

  • @Gradypete Well, when a second rate douchebag like Mayer rides into the public square on a high horse posing as some sort of musical wunderkind; you better believe he is just begging for scathing criticism.

And as if that were not bad enough, he's a smug, irritating prick who makes statements such as " I'm half-chick...I can insert a tampon....I masturbate to take a brain bath..in a brain space that is 100% agreeable with itself"

How many more reasons do I need?

  • @djs259 Take up golf; it would be better for your blood pressure.

  • @SkirtSoPlain And Clapton's smile at the beginning of Mayer's first solo; far from indicating admiration or astonishment, appears to me to be more of an ironic gesture, as if he were thinking "typical insecure young punk trying to impress beyond his abilities". This interpretation is supported by my own personal experience, as well as first hand accounts of Clapton playing for the first time with geniuses like Hendrix. By all accounts, his reaction did not issue forth in the form of a smile.

  • @djs259 "Clapton is clearly holding back here in deference to Mayer." I agree!

  • @MaisSimples : that's cause you are a simpleton asshole.

  • @rmed30 Thanks, my friend! A Merry Christmas to you, too! And I love Mayer!!

  • @voxsupreme exactly right on point. thank you.

  • @SkirtSoPlain Thank You! Nice to see some concensus in this matter. If people only could "close their eyes" when they listen ...

  • @voxsupreme Aside from it all being opinions, Clapton usually has a great tone but it seems like there was just a little too much fuzz coming from his pedal or amp, second, I'm not sure what you mean when his "riffs" are "uninspired" seeing as how this is a cover of someone else's song... People tend to jump on the hate train of popular artist for some reason and Clapton is no exception, if you want to listen to Mayer, go right ahead, I'll be busy listening to a man who redefined guitar playing

  • @TheEternalLeader OK, so "too much fuzz" it was. Well we agree on one thing. The "Hate Train" you see as directed at Clapton is much more aimed at the rooky Mayer, judging from the vast amount of "Clapton Is God"-comments in this thread.

  • @voxsupreme Well, I do agree with the Anti-Mayer thing going on here, I like both, they are both outstanding players but in my mind, there is hardly anyone who can hold a torch to Clapton but Mayer certainly does have talent. The internet ( Youtube has a bad case of it too ) is full of these kinds of pathetic people but I'm glad to see there is some agreeable people still around, such as yourself.

  • @TheEternalLeader I take it you will be listening to Hendrix then.

  • @bond007db9 Yes, I like Hendrix, but this a conversation about Clapton and Mayer, not Hendrix.

  • @voxsupreme I agree that John Mayer had great technique but many of those blues licks are straight up Clapton, he sounded more like Clapton than John Mayer, which is disappointing because it would be nice to hear the contrast there. Clapton still can rip out some amazing solo's but this was far from his best. Icon Deafness happens too much and John Mayer has Icon Deafness in his solo, he needs to be himself, not Clapton.

  • The Clapton phenomenon really took off with the Bluesbreakers 1966 album where EC created THE rock guitar sound. His Les Paul straight into a Marshall 60W 2x12 at full blast. No pedals, just fullbodied volume with natural controlled feedback if needed. And wonderful blues licks, varied in timing and attack, topped off with a beautiful vibrato. This is the reason behind the Clapton Is God-mantra. Compare this with EC playing today and anyone ought to hear that he has lost a lot of his magic.

  • @voxsupreme He may have lost some magic but he certainly hasn't lost his soul, he is still able to move people with his solos more than any of these wanabee shredders with no sense of rhythm or dynamics. Perhaps he isnt the Icon he used to be but that does not mean that he is a bad guitarist.

  • @patlb1 Mayer sounding like Clapton ? You are joking obviously. Mayer is a far superior guitarist to Clapton.

  • @bond007db9 Why do you have to turn this into a debate? I was merely having a conversation about my OPINION. Don't force your opinion down my throat. And I know BOTH styles well. Clapton was not on his "A" game that day but look at other concerts and he is better in my opinion. But John Mayer's style usually isnt that bluesy and John also used licks that i am trying to learn that Clapton used a lot. I respect your opinion but John shows he is a DISCIPLE to him in this video by using his style.

  • @patlb1 Turn it into a debate ? I am merely stating my opinion. You must learn that Clapton did not invent the licks, scales and progression's other blues guitarist have used before Clapton was even born. Mayer style is totally different from Claptons. You clearly suffer from I.D

  • @bond007db9 REALLY? I'm glad someone is an expert on this subject. All guitarists steal licks from each other, John Mayer was using many that Clapton commonly used, notice i did not say that he invented them just that he commonly USED them. Did I call him the best? No... I think that there are many equal to him. Did I say that your opinion is wrong? No, but you called mine wrong.... THAT is not stating an opinion. What i did say is that John is showing that he learned from Clapton and still is.

  • @patlb1 Where did i call your opinion wrong ? Did i say you called Clapton the best ? Who is claiming to be an expert on the subject ? Mayer learned from Clapton ? Stealing licks ? You are certainly deluded. Your futile retorts are worthless.

  • @bond007db9 and you taking this so seriously is humorous XD, if you really think he is that much better than so be it. I am on youtube because i am bored. There are common themes and licks that he used that were used by Cream, if you really want me to "make an effort" i could argue this, but it would as you said be "futile" seeing as you have I.D. with John. he is far from what Claptons Icon is but you obviously want to marry John so ill go on with my day and leave you to you P.M.S. XD good day!

  • @patlb1 Please show me the common themes and licks Mayer uses from Cream, as you put it. Why would i want to marry Mayer ? Im not homosexual. Please explain how you come up with your theories? Please amuse us all.

  • @bond007db9 @ 1:25 "begining of his solo" listen to Eric claptons studio version @ 1:41, similar rhythm and the same notes. @ 1:30 John Mayer listen to 2:00 Clapton studio. John @ 1:37 Clapton @ 2:51 so in 12 seconds i have 3 clapton licks i would be glad to point out more but i have a life to get to. listen to both versions and point out similarities yourself, unless you need someone to hold your hand and do it for you

  • @patlb1 Hahahahahah. Nothing like each other. Spare me please.

  • @bond007db9 Grow up and get an ear you worthless little bitch, go marry your lover. you truly are DEAF.He quotes Clapton's original solo 3 times in 12 seconds, get you head out of your ass and learn music before you hurt yourself commenting. You ask for examples and I gave you them. It is amazing that you find my insulting your playtoy so infuriating that you must comment an hour or less after i do at all times. Same notes, slightly different rhythms, that is qouteing and your a mental reject.

  • @patlb1 Oh dear..... resorting to childish comments because you know you are wrong. Hey why dont you say a few things about my mother. Mum lines are always good for entertainment value. Please be my guest.

  • @bond007db9 Hahahahaha mind games are so much fun when the other person gets so upset by it. Now tell me why 2 or 3 people like John Mayer while the rest of the commenters seems to enjoy Clapton's music more, yet i'm wrong? Just because 2 people like something does not mean the rest of the world is wrong. Ever think that you may need a tuning in your musical taste? But then again if someone gives you good evidence of something you still cant believe it. Did you even listen to the studio version?

  • @voxsupreme At last someone with musical sense.

  • @voxsupreme It was just a little improvised warm up solo thats why ;)

  • @voxsupreme I like Mayer, but let's get back to reality. Relatively speaking, JM is a nobody compared to EC. You put the two of them onstage together and of course Mayer is gonna crank it up a notch to prove he can hang, that he belongs on that stage. To Clapton, this was just another jam session with one of a million musicians he's played with in his career. His solo could've consisted of 3 notes and it wouldn't have mattered. He has nothing to prove and no need to apologize.

  • Its easy to mock Mayer trying to compete with Clapton.Hell never be as good as Clapton but I wish I could play like him

  • 0:35 ... did clapton forget he must sing the 1st verse?

  • What Ever! These two guys "Kick the Jam" !! Who ever said that John Mayer had to prep while Eric took a nap is full a shit! This young man kept up with Clapton very well!! I love this!

  • I count John Mayer as the modern (and more pop) version of Eric Clapton. These two guys are amazing! \m/

  • idiots... you don't know when to give credit to someone... john mayer is amazing! he soloes with missing one note... always! prepared or not that's not something anyone can make...

  • Eric was nice here not to show up that douche Mayer as the appalling mediocrity that he is.

  • @djs259 and all other living room rock stars... What's funny is that John Mayer is playing next to Eric Clapton, and you're not. What's also funny is that any one of you would kill to be as "appallingly mediocre" as someone like Mayer. Say what you like about his personality or pop appeal, but one has to be an ass to keep insisting he can't play. Clapton and other blues legends agree to play alongside him for that reason. So there you go.

  • @jackster1212 You said it, dude! HE'S PLAYING FUCKING "CROSSROADS" WITH FUCKING ERIC CLAPTON!. Enough said. I wish I sucked so bad that Eric Clapton would let me play with him!

  • Man- Mayer is good, but hearing them solo back to back... its just reiterates who the true legend is

  • Wry smile from Claption at 1:30 thinking.......still much to learn you have my young apprentice.......

  • Robert Johnson's version is WAY better

  • John must be so nervous having to play with an icon!

  • they are playing the same guitar?

  • @able2biteme Kinda... both EC signature stratocasters, but Clapton prefers the maple (blond) fretboard, and Mayer prefers the rosewood (dark).

  • @able2biteme No two of the same model guitar.

  • Clapton is one of the most relaxed guitar players i have ever seen.

  • @BCDPRODUCTIONS1234 What is your point? It was never claptons lick either. he stole it from a 60 year old black man before you were even born. This entire mayer vs clapton thing is pointless they are both great in their own right. You know SRV is an albert king clone? stfu, listen and don't comment ever again.

  • greattttttttt

  • The Solos were both flawless.

  • John is a smart guy. He only does the pop to be famous. then he shows his fans the blues.

  • @OwensMusic1 Exactly. Thats why I don't know why some people can be so ignorant and call him talentless. -__- Smartest move any musician could of ever made.

  • mayer sounds sounds so much better and way more expressive when singing with his dirtier rock voice. a shame he does more pop stuff.

  • I love the fact that for you guys to say that Clapton is good you HAVE TO SAY that "John Mayer sucks" xD You guys are Morons, they're both great. OLD SCHOOL - NEW SCHOOL.

  • Forget John Mayer...If you guys want to see the best unheralded blues guitar player around check out Scott Sharrard doing a kickass version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance on the video response to this post
